Saturday provides another fresh start for Charlie Davies, one which he hopes is just the beginning of the turning point that launches him back to his form of old.

A week after signing with Randers FC in Denmark, Davies, who has drawn the No. 8 jersey, has been named to the 21-man squad that will travel to Sonderjyske for the club's season-opening game in the Danish Superliga and could very well make his debut.

Down the home stretch we come in Season #1 of Yanked Abroad. My Randers team sit fourth in the Danish Premier, holding a slight edge in the race for Euro-spots and still technically alive in the title chase, though it would require a monumental collapse by all three of the teams ahead of us to open that particular door.

Thus far, my Randers team has had a fairly successful season by the standards of the club and the expectations of fans and board alike. I'm not so naive as to have expected to start winning trophies right off the bat, but my personal targets have been elevated by our recent good form.

The Spring season gets started, and to add to my tactical issues and the new players not exactly setting the world on fire in the friendlies, I get the bad news that midfielder Zhou (kind of rolls off the Maoist tongue, doesn't it?

My first order of business in the break is to start cleaning house a bit. Right winger Søren Berg has lost his spot in the starting lineup and isn't happy I didn't let him go earlier in the season. Fine by me; He's 33, on the decline, and takes up $7.5k of our $95k wage bill. I fax his name and an acceptable fee to anybody and everybody, save our rivals.

Into the wringer we go with a dense pile of fixtures made worse by the absence of one of our key players, the attacking midfielder Sane. And we start against the current league leaders.

When last we met in Yanked Abroad, six of my players were jetting off for international fixtures. I arranged a friendly with one of my feeder clubs and kept the rest of the lot match sharp with a 3-0 victory that saw me experiment with three versions of a 4-2-3-1, none of which impressed terribly. Sadly, part of the international departure crew was Yura Movsisyan, who, as will soon be the case in real life, has cast his lot with Armenia.

Yanked Abroad | 02. Fire Up the Bandwagon

In the first installment of Yanked Abroad, I had gotten off to a reasonable start, signing three players to bulk up the midfield and defense, progressing through the first three qualification rounds of the Europa League, and going 1-1-1 in league play. That was only good for 8th in a twelve-team league, but the three games were against some of the big guns.

As I explained in the introduction to this series, the conceit behind the Yanked Abroad Football Manager adventure was going to be in the selection of my initial team. For the new game, I activated as many leagues where I knew Americans were playing as seemed reasonable. Then I let the game pick random clubs for me until I hit upon one with a fellow Yank on the roster.
