Rain, rain, go away...

2
This rain.

Ordinarily, I don't mind rain. I don't mind it Monday-Friday, when I'm trapped in front of my computer at work. I don't mind it at night, when I'm undertaking reasonable efforts to capture eight hours of sleep.* I don't mind it in the late-afternoon on a hot, sticky August day, when it arrives minutes after a severe thunderstorm warning. Season Ends With a Crush

0
MARKHAM - It was a sunny evening that capped off a rain drenched season, and consistency won out in the end with the Markham Crush taking their first championship.

First off, in the third place game, Solun FC and Markham Dynamos squared off in a very hard fought game with Solun FC winning 3 to 2 over Markham Dynamos, to capture the consolation third place final. Click to continue reading...

Coming soon: More Sunshine and less Rain

1
In the figurative sense, as in: good news. In reality it's actually less sunshine and more snow. And If you factor in global warming, it would be less sunshine and more rain. But that's OK. The bosses of all 36 Bundesliga clubs have met and decided that the winter break is too long and needs shortening; [. Click to continue reading...

A rainy fish shop

0

Not much happening, to be honest.

We're at the very height of the Interlulll and you know things are slow when Arsene Wenger is talking about international football. Still, Arsenal's star summer signing can help ease the blues as he's going to be back from injury any time now.

Amaury Fishshop was signed from Werder Bremen for free (they even threw in all his plaster casts and traction) and he's hopeful he'll be back in contention for a place in the squad soon.

Off The Ball - The Friday Round-up

2
Sorry for the lack of posting yesterday - one of the Inside Left U-5 squad needed to go into hospital for something Holby-esque, but he's grand now. A few weeks in the reserves and he'll be right as rain. It's going to be a quick Off The Ball, our look at the news in [...] Click to continue reading...

NASA Classic a success

1
For those of you who attended the NASA Classic this past weekend, I hope you agree with me that the tournament was a success.

The field conditions were great and thanks in large part to tropical storm Fay, the weather was awesome for a late August soccer tourney.

Instead of the sweltering summer heat which would normally have been hanging over the players, the weather was windy and overcast – make it a pleasant outing. Click to continue reading...

The Most Wanted Footballers in England

4
"The rain may be coming down but keep your heads up boys," booms out the voice across the astroturf pitch as a group of young men trudge towards the goal at one end of the pitch. Except this goal is a little different from the type you'd normally expect on an inner-city rubber crumb pitch [...] Click to continue reading...

Foppe: not much to fall back on...

The Olympians training in the rain... The Dutch Olympic football team may have played a shocker of a game against the USA, the return to the hotel suggests they just won gold. Dozens of smiling school girls cheered the team when they got out of the bus after another training. The rain Click to continue reading...

Today's Game Cancelled!!

2
Gentleman, if you check the Saltfleet site you'll notice a banner saying that field conditions are such that all senior games today - Aug 10th - have been cancelled. That deluge of rain yesterday has apparently left all the fields unplayable.

Having said that, enjoy your now-wide-open Sunday afternoon! Click to continue reading...

Emirates Cup - Day Two

3
On a rain soaked day the second day kicked-off with Juventus facing Hamburg.  The way the tournament was organised meant that a good result for the Germans could give Arsenal a chance of retaining the cup.   Hamburg started the game on the front foot and were rewarded with a goal after 20 minutes scored by Guerero, [. After a three-day weekend the team is back at it today, preparing for its match against the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday (got your tickets yet?). If you haven't yet seen it, here is the Access United recap following last Wednesday's very strange loss to the Dynamo. There's some great footage of the rain coming down.

This is not a joke, though it feels like one

3

It's raining like I've ever seen it rain before. 75% of the stadium's lights just went out. The game has been stopped in the 54th minute. And now, the field boards behind the north goal have fallen over. And there are large puddles forming on the field. And there's lightning. And 500 members of Barra Brava continue to chant and sing.

DCU vs. Houston III: Starting lineups

2

Well, it might very well rain on us this evening, but this is attempt number three at trying to play this soccer game so I'm told we're going to do everything we can to get it in before the daylight of Thursdady arrives. Let's hope the rain holds off and we get it in when we're supposed to.

With injuries aplenty, Tom Soehn has made a few changes to tonight's lineup:

Zach Wells; Pat Carroll, Bryan Namoff, Marc Burch, Gonzalo Martinez; Devon McTavish, Clyde Simms, Fred, Craig Thompson; Luciano Emilio, Jaime Moreno.

DC-Houston game postponed again

0
DC United vs Houston Dynamo
4 June
22 July
23 July?

Why is it that these two clubs can't get this game played? Last month is was rain that canceled it and tonight it is a lack of power. For the second time in about a week, RFK is having power issues and according to the Dynamo's blog, it will prevent the game from taking place tonight. Click to continue reading...

Joining Madrid is ‘the worst thing Ronaldo could do’ according to Manchester United manager

Sir Alex Ferguson has probably never had to work the media so hard as this summer. Like the Manchester rain, the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid has been a constant threat. Persib v Persija

4
For the second consecutive game Persib flew out the blocks and were a goal up within 60 seconds. Good work by Eka Ramdhani down the inside left found international striker Zaenal Arief in so much space he had enough time to complete the cryptic Times crossword, a poor first touch and putting the ball past Hendro Kartiko. RailHawks 0-2 Puerto Rico Match Report (GeoStadia)

0
As usual, it rained just before the game, killing the walk up. Game time rain means many thousands of lost dollars to team management. Playing simply and intelligently in the back should mean more to the coaching staff. Both Puerto Rico goals were gifts: Carolinas Solle and Stokes contrived to put Hanna through in the tenth minute through a bungled clearance. Click to continue reading...

Brazilian ‘doesn’t want to go to Manchester City’

And who can blame him for wanting to avoid the endless Manchester rain, abating every other Thursday if you're lucky. Greetings from Pacific Northwest

Hello all, Hillcrest is up here with the team in mild-weathered Seattle. No rain so far. I thought it was supposed to be dreary up here? Tonight's game should be an interesting one. Seattle is one of the stronger teams in USL-1 each year, and with the scheduled move to MLS next year, this squad is no different. Click to continue reading...

WIWFC(IJ) Part I - The Wayback Machine

Looks like it's going to be a glorious day for picnics celebrating the 4th here in central PA. The rain has been coming down since early morning and doesn't look like letting up anytime soon. Maybe I'll hold off Seattle move

8
It's as predictable as rainbows after rain. Someone writes a "Soccer's going to make it" article and someone has to come back with "No, it's not". Someone always wants the last word.
I don't really care. I'm not much of a prognosticator of popularity, trendiness or what's "in".
I just know what I like. Click to continue reading...

Russia 0 - 3 Spain: Mercury Parallel Parks

Kind of a compact car of a match, in the end. Fuel-efficient, practical, and great for fitting into small spaces, but nothing to put a gleam in your eye when you see it in your slot at Avis. Good morning from a grey miserable Dublin. The rain is teeming down and it looks like it's going to do that all day long.

So I'm loathe to start the day with anything negative. Instead let's rejoice and sing songs at the news that Gael Clichy has signed a new long term contract with the club.

DC United Reaction - Live and Rainy Is Always Better

United's 4-1 thrashing of the Red Bulls was my first chance to make the pilgrimage to RFK from the wooded wilds of central Pennsylvania this year, and I was richly rewarded for the journey by rain, smoke, goals, and a new perspective on some of our players.
