It was a hard ending to swallow for FC Barcelona as they battled Osasuna to a scoreless draw
late into the second half of the match. Early in the first half the Barcelona defense looked a
little off as they were not clearing the ball out of the back field and giving the Osasuna offense
too much space to move the ball around.

On Saturday FC Barcelona travel to Madrid to take on Getafe, who had a convincing 1-4 victory
over Racing Santander in first week action. Getafe, under new manager Michel, look to improve on a
dismal 2008/2009 season which saw them barely escape relegation. For FC Barcelona they cannot take
Michel's team lightly.

Barcelona began their quest for a second successive league title under Pep Guardiola with a
routine 3-0 win over Sporting Gijon in the first round of Primera Liga action at the Nou Camp.
First-half goals from Bojan Krkic and Seydou Keita set an under-strength Catalan side on their
way and summer signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic grabbed his first for the club late on as Guardiola's

The deal manager Pep Guardiola wanted most is finally complete after weeks of negotiation. 22

coming to the Camp Nou. Shakhtar Donetsk president Rinat Akhmetov agreed to the terms of the
transfer after Joan Laporta was determined to satisfy Guardiola's desire for a defender.

Over the last few years Spanish Primera is slowly taking dominance over the rest of the European
leagues. Barcelona demonstrated that, when they easily handled Manchester United in the Champions
League finals. Still, last season was a disappointment for the Royal club, as even though they
finished second in Primera, their European campaign was not worth mentioning, having in mind that
they were humiliated by Liverpool that beat them 5:0.

matches undefeated...

the second goal - that's our boy!
- Dani Alves came on during the second half for Brazil as they defeated Estonia 1-0.

Mexico is hurting. The poor management reigns of Sven Goran Eriksson all but threw out the
successful Copa America run in 2007 under Hugo Sanchez and brought Mexico to its lowest point since
the struggles of the 2001 hexagonal.
But Mexico is never to be underestimated. Man for man, when healthy and calling up a full squad,
El Tri still has more accomplished and quality players than anyone else in CONCACAF.

It's a funny thing about the best laid plans. Sometimes, rather than getting laid, they just end up
screwing you.
Take, for example, the venues for the home-and-home World Cup qualifiers between Mexico and the
US.
Late last year, Sunil Gulati offered the FMF a deal: he'd move our home leg to someplace that made
some sense (and where, coincidentally, he could sell 70,000 tickets) if Mexico would agree to move
their home leg to someplace other than Mexico City.

It's been an interesting week so far in the Mexican footie world.
Giovani Dos Santos takes a major step in his development, yet acknowledges he still has a long way
to go. But the Mexican media focus on the first half of his "tapando bocas" (shutting people up)
quote. Even when there are signs that a fresh wind might take Mexico out the doldrums, the Mexican
press would do anything to sabotage the sails.

This CONCACAF Gold Cup will be contested by watered down squads from the two traditional
CONCACAF heavyweights, the USA and Mexico. Additionally, the failure of Trinidad & Tobago and
Guatemala to qualify for this edition of the event opened the field up.
Guadeloupe, a surprise package to everyone but myself two years ago (I actually believed
Guadeloupe could make the final two years ago before the event and they almost did) returns with
another strong team as does Jamaica who missed qualification in 2007.
