Football's season horribilis continues apace. On a day when all eyes were focussed on the horrible
happenings at Old Trafford, There was more sad news in terms of racism, with Manchester City star
announcing that he was closing his Twitter account due to receiving racist abuse from numerous
morons. After recent incidents involving Shola Ameobi [.
By Chris Wright
According to the Daily Mirror and Mail among others, Manchester City's Micah Richards has been
moved to delete his @officialMR2 Twitter account and asked police to investigate after receiving
torrents of racist abuse from a 'small but depressing minority of people' over the past few
months.
The Blues might be sitting pretty in position 6 in the football money league rich list but the
truth of the matter is that their financial situation is not too good. With a massive debt in
excess of over £1 billion, Chelsea could soon find itself in a very messy situation.
It is also now emerging that Chelsea paid £28 million to sign Andre Villas-Boas from Porto last
summer.
John Terry has been England captain three times. He has been stripped of the captaincy three
times. Rio Ferdinand has been England captain once. He does not want the England captaincy again.
Steven Gerrard has been overlooked for the England captaincy several times. He is no longer a
guaranteed starter in the side.
The artist formerly known as England's Brave John Terry. Again.
Innocent or guilty, right or wrong the time has come for the Chelsea captain to leave the Three
Lions, and the circus surrounding them, behind. Permanently.
An era passed
It's difficult to argue however much I disagree with the Football Association's decision to
relieve Terry of the England captaincy in wake of the racist abuse trial he faces in July.
John Terry has today been stripped of the England captaincy for a second time following
allegations of racism.
Terry allegedly called Anton Ferdinand a "black cunt" in Chelsea's defeat against QPR. In last
weekend's Cup game between the two clubs the FA scrapped the traditional handshake ahead of
kick-off after it became apparent that the QPR players would snub Terry in support of
Ferdinand.
Ex-Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has been targeted by racist morons on twitter after moving from
Lazio to QPR. Cisse is the latest in a long-line of players to be bombarded with racist abuse on
Twitter, a site that does absolutely nothing proactive to stop anonymous idiots from engaging in
all kinds of online bullying and abuse.
Patrice Evra will be on the receiving end of some abuse today but I'd like to think it won't be
racist abuse. Maybe I'm naive and I'm probably giving the vermin too much credit but I genuinely
hope that Liverpool fans don't turn their dislike of Evra, having been lead to believe that he's a
liar by the ridiculous propaganda from their club, in to something far more sinister.
