This is not a hoax. Atletico Madrid coach Quique Sanchez Flores has Contracted the dreaded Swine Flu virus. Call me crazy (because I am), but despite Tenerife loss last week to Villarreal 5-0 I still think the new boys will win this weekend. Why you ask? Because although Tenerife looked horrid last week this week they get to play Malaga who in nine games has lost seven. Malaga is in last place and Tenerife sits just outside the relegation zone.

It was a rare week in La Liga becasue Barca did not win. Don't get too excited because they did not lose either. But you have to hand it to Osasuna. They have played as well as anyone recently and they gave the treble winners a battle 1-1 leaving the door open for clubs to move up the board a few points.

Matthaus last minute rejection of the Racing Santander job has the club gnashing their teeth. He was supposed to have arrived today to take over the coaching job and help out the beleaguered club but he texted the club saying the deal was off.

Last week I went on and on about how Sevilla is the most overlooked club in all of La Liga. They have beaten among the best (Real Madrid) and going into last weekend they were among the hottest clubs in all of the world. Well you can say that I gave Sevilla the dreaded curse as well. The club's winning ways would come to an end last weekend with a loss to Deportivo La Coruna.

It had to happen sooner than later. Joel Santana stepped down as SA coach. After the invigorating display by the Bafana Bafana at the Confederations Cup this summer amidst the vuvuzelas, the team went into a tailspin.

Santana's ultra cautious approach and reliance on two defensive midfielders stifled the team's attacking instincts leading to eight losses in nine friendlies, the latest one coming against Iceland five days ago.
