Just eight games remain in this regular season and time is running out for Melbourne Victory.

turning point. Well, its now or never as this week is set to be the most crucial yet. Two games
This is a Poem about Kean people and six-pointers and that...yeah. Bolton vs Blackburn, Trotters
vs Rovers. It's winner takes all...not a game for pushovers. For the players it's a race
against time, for the manager a race against the sack. No doubt any decision with be influenced
by some journalist hack.

Plus ça change. As ever, it impossible to even attempt to frame the start of the new season in
the Blue Square Premier without talking, in more detail than even we might particularly want to,
about the financial condition football's de facto fifth division. This summer saw the expulsion and
subsequent folding of Rushden & Diamonds, which was followed by the bizarre and in some respects
unedifying sight of Imraan Ladak hastily moving their former rivals Kettering Town into their
ground, a chaotic couple of months at Wrexham which led to a desperate race against time in order
to keep the club alive, and the lingering suspicion that there are a number of clubs playing at
this level that are still struggling to come to terms with the new, tougher financial regulations
that have been introduced in this league by the Football Conference.
Arsenal's disappointing 2-1 defeat to Benfica was not the only object of manager Arsene Wenger's
concern this weekend as he was left sweating over the knocks that some of his key players took
ahead of the season opener in less than a week.

made to the previous regime, though Liverpool's new owners, led by John Henry, were thought to
favour redeveloping the current Anfield site.
Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke is in London today in an attempt to finally sort out
the Cesc Fabregas transfer saga. The mail reports that Kroenke came to the capital to attend
the members day at the Emirates. But, says the paper, more importantly the American tycoon hopes
his trip to England will resolve the long-running uncertainty over Fabregas' protracted switch to
Barcelona.
Injured Liverpool duo Raul Meireles and Martin Skrtel are in a race against time to be fit for the
start of the new season.
Both players sat out the penultimate pre-season friendly, as the Reds drew 3-3 in Norway against
Valarenga - conceding at least three goals for the fifth game in a row.
Portuguese star Meireles is currently sidelined with a foot problem, but it's believed that the
injury is just bruising and the former Porto man should be fit for the opening weekend.
Liverpool is more open to the prospect of leaving Anfield for a new state-of-the-art arena in
nearby Stanley Park, but face a race against time to find a lucrative naming rights partner to help
offset the cost of the project.

up the 999-year lease on the site, which is in the shadow of the current ground.
Manchester City are still some way from being able to predict whether their captain Carlos Tevez
will be available for selection for their FA Cup final on May 14th. The Argentinean striker
suffered a hamstring injury last month and will face a real race against time to recover in time to
lead his team out at Wembley for the season's showpiece final.
Maxi Rodriguez admits he will never forget the ovation from the Anfield crowd after his "best
moment in a Liverpool shirt".
Maxi netted the first hat-trick of his career for the club with three close-range finished in the
5-0 home romp against Birmingham City on Saturday.
It doubled the total for the season for the Argentine, who was making his first outing in more than
a month after being recalled in the absence of the injured Andy Carroll.
Two of Spurs' key players are facing a ‘race against time' to be fit for tomorrow's return
against Real Madrid. While William Gallas looks to be very doubtful, Aaron Lennon appears to have
shaken off his illness concerns and will line up at White Hart Lane tomorrow night.
"Aaron wasn't well again on Friday and not well enough to play against Stoke," Harry Reknapp
confirmed.

City's April 3rd clash with Sunderland. With the uncertainty surrounding Berbatov vs Hernandez as

Sitting and fiddling with the code for this site this evening, in the back of my mind was a
familiar old concern. What if I make an absolute hash of something on here mess it all up. It has
happened before, and there are no words that can accurately describe that heart-in-the-throat
sinking feeling that comes with the knowledge that something has gone horribly wrong which
frantically pressing "Control" and "Z" can't rectify.
