I am happy like a Christmas Chicken that Denmark qualified for the World Cup in South Africa after
a deserved 1-0 victory against a very poor Swedish side in Copenhagen. Cheers!

Last week Rio de Janeiro was awarded the hosting of the 2016 Olympic Games in a close contest with
Madrid, Tokyo and Chicago. All countries had brought leaders and celebrities to Copenhagen to
promote their bids. The US President Barack Obama even came to promote Chicago, that nevertheless,
to many people's surprise, were the first to be eliminated.

Spain has just won the European Championships in basketball by crushing Serbia in the final in
Poland 83-65. The team was led by the NBA stars Pau Gasol and Rudy Fernandez, and was by far the
best team in the tournament.Last year, Spain won the Euro 2008, also in an overwhelming fashion, to
become the kings of Europe in football.

I have been travelling around in Europe for a month, and although with the break, there wasn't much
football on my busy programme, I did nevertheless notice some things:-I was in Barcelona when R.D.
Espanyol inaugurated their new stadium by winning a 3-0 victory against Liverpool. I have always
felt some sympathy for Español for being the "little guys" in Barcelona, and was happy to see them

Beer and football go hand in hand - don't believe otherwise! And I love drinking beers while
wathing a football match! This is my personal list of the best beers to drink during football. It
must be underlined that the list builds on my experience while watching footbal, and that they do
not necessarily constitute what I consider the best beer!

In Danish "Agurketid" means "cucumber time", to denote a period with almost nothing in the news. I
guess these days are football-agurketid for me. Sure there are matches in the Libertadores, first
round CL qualifiers, the gold cup, as well as numerous rumours about transfers (although most are
about Real Madrid), but without some of my favourite leagues there is not much to talk about.

This is my very personal list of 99 matches I can come up with, which I remember I have watched,
remember the results, and the circumstances that I have watched it in. It is not necessarily in
prioritised order; I have just listed them as I come up with them!1) Denmark-Germany, 1992: I think
every Dane remembers this match, the 1992 Euro final, where Denmark sensationally defeated the

Apparently Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola motivated his players in the CL final against Manchester
United by showing them a video comparing it to the movie gladiator. The movie is now on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8Dhj7KsEyQIt may be a strange way to motivate football players, but
hey, these players are all from a generation that has grown up with Hollywood blockbusters, so I am
sure

You know when you are a football fanatic when you go out of your way to find a place to watch
football. As my parents' house in the Danish town of Nyborg is absolute chaos these days because of
major re-furbishing, there was nowhere to watch the FA Cup final between Everton and Chelsea. After
some great matches, I had decided not to watch it, but instead listen to it in the radio, but as
the game

On BBC World Football phone this weekend they talked about their favourite world cup memories,
which led myself to reflect on my favourite world cup memories.I started watching the world cup in
1982 when I was 7 years old, but 1986 was the first world cup that I watched passionately as a fan.
In spite of this limited timeframe, I still have difficulties in defining my one moment, so I have
made a
