So, Kapitan Kissypants has returned from his Euro-adventure, and apparently, he's in a bitchy mood.
Witness his reaction to Becks' "time share" move (via SI.com) . . . "That isn't a
decision I would take," Donovan said. "I personally wouldn't feel...div

Kasper, via Goff: "I feel strongly that Tommy deserves to remain as head coach."Ruh-roh!
Let's hope his feelings don't get in the way of his reason. Tommy's teams are not consistently
motivated for big games. His pre-game tactics and team selection are reasonable, but his ability to
adapt and make in-game changes (tactical adjustments, reading the game, making the right
substitution) often fails

Wait, wait. Stop me if you've heard this one before. Ruud Gullit said something stupid . . . Oh,
all right. I know it's a bit like fishing with hand grenades, but anyway . . . So I'm watching a
stream of Liverpool-Chelsea (Sky Sports, I think?), and I left it on after the match on the off
chance that I would get to see Jamie Carragher attempting to speak English (I did, and it was just

When will Kaptain Kissypants learn to keep his mouth shut? Why didn't we thump Guatemala by more
than 1-0, Landon? "We still have to learn how to play in these games," Donovan said.
"You could tell we were naïve against Guatemala because we had a lot of young players on
the field. The good thing is we got that experience and we won.

DC United midfielder Joe Vide in his post-match commentary: It's nice when we're at home and we're
expected to win. We want to be a team that makes it to the playoffs. What? Revised expectations or
clear-headed realism? I've got three possible explanations for this line of thinking. Clearly, Joe
didn't receive his kool-aid ration from the FO, and so doesn't realize that we've assembled a team

As I referred to in the match reaction for DC United's Open Cup win last night, I'm really looking
forward to the potential combination between Martinez and Guerrero on the left flank. From the
locker room after the game, this Martinez quote seems to indicate that things are progressing
nicely in that particular direction.

Thanks to our friends at Behind the Badge for the post-game quotes from the RSL smackdown. One
thing caught my eye--this quote from Tommy Soehn about Santino Quaranta . . . "I think he
still has to manage the game a little bit better and recognize when to take people on, and when to
hold it. That's part of maturity.

Tommy Soehn on that ugly patch of "here--have the ball please" play late in the first
half that I discussed last night . . . "We had a stretch where I thought we should have kept
the ball a little bit better and we attacked with too much urgency instead of stretching them out
and making them work harder.

United boss Tommy Soehn via the Goffblog:
"One of the attractive things about Greg [Vanney] is his experience and his ability to
organize. We've lacked a little bit of that -- a veteran guy in the back that is going to make our
shape better. If you look at the chances we've given away, a lot of it is our shape and I think
he's going to help Bobby in a lot of respects and teach him and Bobby can emulate some of the
things he does.
