MORNING all, hopefully this blog finds you well on 'hump-day'.
Just a quick note on yesterday's post on the void of Perth Glory news. Apparently, Monday was a
rest and recovery day for the players - which is understandable, considering they have been on a
two-week road trip of Queensland.
So yesterday there was a bit of news coming out the Glory camp, but the first official media
gathering for this week, will be a presser just before training today.

Ben Williams gave GC 24 free kicks to Brisbane's 12. Yet it was GC's defenders that seemed to be
flying in.
To have 2 50-50 penalties turned down is disappointing. To have 4 is suspect or disappointing. This
keeps happening to the Roar and you can see why fans stop coming.
In last years grand final an elbow to the head was a red, here Thwaite only got yellow.

So after months of wondering what the second season of the W-League would bring, now Round 1 has
come and gone. It had a grand final rematch that went all too much the same for Canberra fans at
Ballymore and the rest of the girls all had a chance to play on the best pitches in Australia as
curtain raisers for A-League games.

Yay, the new season of the W-League is just two sleeps away and finally, the squads are here.
So who's in and out? Probably won't know exactly what will happen until the team's line-up but
certainly some interesting last minute signings. Here are the interesting parts of the previews,
game by game.

She would prefer to play in the midfield, but has dabbled in everywhere from up front to
centre-back, has an impressive American career for Women's Premier League soccer team FC Indiana, a
playing stint in Ukraine that included UEFA cup qualifiers and a knack for scoring match-winners in
important games, like the winning penalty to win the 2005 American Women's Soccer league title and
three goals in three games in that UEFA champions league series.

Last year Brisbane Roar played Central Coast Mariners in a Round 3 match that attracted 12,185
people along. This year their round 4 fixture against Central Coast could only manage 6,433. The
low crowds in Brisbane have been focus of media attention over the last two weeks and much
conjecture about the reasons behind this.

Well it was the bottom of the table clash we've been waiting for all season. I walked from the
shop, past the Irish Pub on the corner which only had AFL on, and past the two pubs in the mall
which also only had AFL on, to the Pig & Whistle on the mall which had AFL on two screens and the
A-League on the smallest third screen.

Ok, here is my season preview for what it is worth.
In this first part of three, I take a look at what I tip will be the bottom four teams.
10th – Central Coast MarinersIt seems every year pundits across Australia write Central Coast off and most years they keep
proving them wrong.

It isn't on the online version, but in today's Courier Mail there is a report, page 89, that Miron
is boycotting A-League promotions because the opening game of the season was swapped from Gold
Coast home to Brisbane home.
It said he missed the Unicef event for Queensland teams, will miss the Sydney season launch and
won't say anything to promote the opener Brisbane v Gold Coast at Lang Park on August 8.

It hasn't taken Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler to let his feelings be known about former Anfield
teammate Michael Owen, after the 29-year-old striker signed for Manchester Utd this summer.
The veteran striker, who is now winding down his career with Australian side New Queensland Fury,
said he could never have betrayed his boy-hood club.

A chance perhaps for some SLeague players to put themselves in the Aussie shop window. Certainly a
fit Noh Alam Shah has to offer more than a crocked Robbie Fowler?

As expected, Arsenal have announced massive pre-tax profits of £36.7M. This is after
paying loan interest of £17M. Arsenal's debt increased £319.6M to £389.5M. The
increase was due to the ongoing developments at Highbury Square and Queensland Road. The debt
is not expected to increase, in fact the year saw Arsenal repay £5M of the [.

Was that the most entertaining and exciting round of A-League ever? With an average of 4.5 goals a
game, it probably was. And it was a round that was all about the foreigners, as well as some
established local stars. Queensland v Adelaide For the Roar, the three foreigners combined to score
an exquisite, and highly technical, [.

It seems that the race for the new spots is becoming serious business, just ask Fred Taplin.
Apparently tonight he has raised the white flag and dropped out of the race for the Gold Coast
franchise leaving the Gold Coast United bid the clear winner.
The speed with which Gold Coast Galaxy bid has gone from almost certainties to yesterday's news has
been breathtaking.
