The yanking of my chain continues with cooler statements from Newcastle United manager Chris
Hughton regarding the potential signing of Sol Campbell. Rumours abound as he seeks to reinforce
the squad in the January transfer window. When asked about signing Campbell, Hughton replied; "I
think there is always an interest in quality players that might become [.

Phil Bardsley admits Sunderland need to be at their best when they host Arsenal on Saturday.
The Gunners have been in fearsome form in front of goal this season and will be keen to continue
that trend at the Stadium of Light.
Bardsley, who will form part of a back four directly in the firing line, admits as much, but the
combative full-back feels Steve Bruce's side are capable of springing an upset.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that Man Utd are not the team they were last year with the
only loss to the team being Cristiano Ronaldo. Wayne Rooney has been given much more of free role
and is playing better than he ever has but he can't do it alone. Just like Ronaldo needed Rooney in
the team Rooney, needs a Ronaldo and Antonio Valencia just isn't it.

As we saw once again against Birmingham on Monday, Glen Johnson's best work this season continues
to come when he's playing higher up the field. Should Liverpool capitalise on this and convert him
into a permanent right-winger?
In my view, the Birmingham game illustrated once again the occasional defensive lapses to which
Johnson is prone; his failure to push out quick enough meant Christian Benitez was onside when he
scored the equalising goal.

not, Rafa failed to give the striker a decent chance and clearly his lack of confidence in the
Irishman had a negative influence on the forward.

Thiago Silva looks a little overwhelmed there, don't you think? ("So Pirlo,

Are we a club in crisis? While I hate to disappoint the doom-mongers and mischievous press-men,
it is a little too hasty to go down that route just yet.
Come the full-time whistle we ought to have a clearer idea of where we stand. Naturally, this
being White Hart Lane, moderation is not welcome.

This week's QOTW is Fabio Capello talking about his first training session with the England Squad,
the Italian manager has guided England to qualification, and he will most probably guide them
through South Africa 2010.
"I remember the first training session and I was surprised because the players were
really good,"
- Fabio Capello
A bit of humor for this week's QOTW, Capello was very surprised because he thought that because
England didn't make it the the 2008 Euro's, the players would not be of high quality.

Its a game that's as big as it gets for Liverpool afternoon.Yes its our hated enemy, Man Utd at
Anfield in a game which will define our season.Win and we are right back in contention for the

How can a club survive in the Premier League, West Brom, Hull and Stoke managements wondered
last year? Wolves, Birmingham and Burnley managers and presidents ask the same question today. You
may say that the answer to this old question is always the same: MONEY. The answer
is only partially true.

The UEFA Champions League had several upsets and surprising results on Tuesday and Wednesday. FC
Barcelona lost at home, AC Milan beat Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, and Liverpool lost 1-2 at home
to Lyon. Many of the top teams lost or had to settle for draws. The exception was English Premier
League sides Chelsea and Manchester United.

If there is one thing clear at the moment, it is that Liverpool are in disarray and are on the
road to nowhere. After the Champions League loss to Lyon at home it is now time to surely question
Rafa Benitez's leadership as manager.
Without Gerrard and Torres we have seen Liverpool's true colors.

during that game and will look to exploit it.

By CHRIS LARKIN With Rugby Union's blood gate incident taking up the majority of Sky Sports'
time I was relieved to see Football back as the main focus point of the channel and was shocked to
see that Chelsea had been ban from making any transfers until January 2011.
I do have sympathy towards Chelsea's case in the way they appear to be singled out but if I'm
quite honest I find it hard to actually feel sorry for teams when so many Stockport County players
have been poached over the years for pittance, it's disgraceful we spend time and money training
quality players that could get County to the next level and then get sold on for alot of money but
the ‘bigger' clubs always come in and coax the naive kids into coming to the bigger team, when in
actual fact all it does if deprive County of a player that could've really helped us and in many
cases will ruin the players career.

Just over half a dozen games in and the Premier League is beginning to take shape. There have
already been some heavyweight clashes with the newly oil rich Man City upsetting Big 4 stalwarts
Arsenal while Spurs' flying start was kept in check by Manchester United and Chelsea. With the
electric Fernando Torres leading the line Liverpool have steadied the ship after a nervy start and
last year's pretenders, Aston Villa, have picked up useful points despite not fully hitting top
form yet.

Two consecutive defeats it may be, but even the most pessimistic amongst us have struggled to
make a convincing case for this being a crisis. Man Utd and Chelski are the best two teams in the
country, and amongst the best handful in Europe. Losing to them is not exactly to be welcomed, but
neither is it a cause for alarm.

Gary Neville thinking to himself about how crap and old he is
This time last year Manchester United were starting to put together one of the finest stretches
of defensive football ever scene in the English Premier League. But one year later, with a similar
defensive cast, they seem exposed, shaky and generally lacking around their own goal.

Youth development is often considered at the level of the US Soccer federation, but what
progress has there been this year from MLS and its clubs?
It flew under the radar, but MLS' Board of Governors' decision in July to allow clubs to sign
two "homegrown" players from their academies who would not count against the 24-man roster limit
this year (though nor can they play in league matches) is starting to bear fruit (last year, a few
clubs faced dilemmas over whether to sign an Academy player who might not be able to contribute to
the first team, risking losing them abroad).

On a sun-baked afternoon at Upton Park, West Ham United had their first real test against the

I have to say that the performance merits at least a draw.
