Juventus have scored 29 goals in 18 league matches which is not very impressive but by no means is it a disastrous figure considering only two clubs in Serie A have scored more: Milan and Napoli.

The figures do not lie and a closer look reveals the Bianconeri have scored 10 goals in 3 matches meaning the club managed only 19 goals in the other 15 games.

Juventus threw away another two points with Genoa scoring a late equalizer in Turin to force a 2-2 draw on Saturday. The Juve supporters must be disappointed with the club's inability to display a killer instinct in finishing off weaker opponents. The Bianconeri also wasted a number of opportunities highlighting the lack of scoring touch despite the presence a plethora of attacking options such as Fabio Quagliarella (did not play versus Genoa), Alessandro Matri (scorer of both of Juve's goals versus Genoa), Alessandro Del Piero (a late substitute) and Mirko Vučinić (played but again failed to score).

The international break gives us a chance to take a look back at this early part of the Serie A season and see what we can take from it. Five game in to 2011-2012 and only one thing is certain, and that is nothing is certain. While it may be a bit early to pass judgement, what we can say is that this season's scudetto is there for the taking.

In what has become a habit for Juventus, the Bianconeri dropped two points and settled for a draw with Catania. Juve could not defend a 2-0 lead over the visitors who have yet to register their first away win of the season. The Bianconeri squad is lacking in quality and this is evident when the legendary but aging Alessandro Del Piero is the main source of creativity for the team.

Juventus could decide not to take up the option to sign Alberto Aquilani from Liverpool on a permanent basis this summer, according to the Italian club's former director of sport.
The Italian midfielder is currently on a season-long loan at the Stadio Delle Alpi, after spending one injury-plagued season at Anfield, and the Turin giants can sign the 26-year-old permanently for an agreed £12m fee in the summer, should they wish to.

Three big stories this past week have perhaps set in motion a chain of events, the eventual results of which may have huge implications on both the Serie A title race this season and the future of the Italian national team. First among these, and easily the saddest tale is the season-ending knee injury suffered by Fabio Quagliarella.

There's little doubt the dirtiest play of the year in 2010 was Nigel De Jong's ode to Carl Douglas in the World Cup final - Dirty Tackle seems to agree, and by golly if they aren't the authority on the subject.

Felipe Melo got to setting the bar supremely high for 2011, leaping out well ahead of the pack with some studs to the face of Parma's Massimo Paci all of 15 minutes after the Serie A campaign had rebooted.

Juventus is reportedly preparing a £20million bid for Robin Van Persie as a replacement for Alessandro Del Piero, now 36 years and close to retirement. This might be a sick twisted attempt to get Van Persie and Giorgio Chiellini reacquainted on the same side of the field.
