If Steve Darby and Bryan Robson fancying coming to Indonesia to catch some of their players I would
like to offer them my sofa.
It would save them a few bob on hotels and they would be able to get up close and personal to Kosin
(Persib), Suchao (Persib), Pipat (Persisam) and Phaitoon (Persijap).

Just happened to catch Keith Costigan, Warren Burton, and Chris Miles this Sunday talk about the
economic import of the 2010 World Cup. This complex issue got about two minutes.
First, none of the three really work on this particular aspect of the sport. And it showed.
There were banalities - it is good for the host country and the fans of the qualifying countries
who go to pubs to see matches, boost the local economy.

I just got a friendly call from the LA Galaxy front office letting me know that a local bar, the
Off-Campus Pub on Avelon Blvd. right near the HDC, will be showing the game in English. Â
Similarly, a commenter to my previous post has mentioned that the game will also be shown at the
Cock and Bull on Lincoln Blvd in Venice CA.

Big Story
Have fans become spoiled, expecting every major game to be available for free and in their own
language on their home television set, whereever the game is being played? The patchy television
rights structure of World Cup qualifiers in which home teams sell their own coverage has led to
considerable frustration for fans of both England and the U.

Timbers Blog 03 October @ 02:44 PM EST
I made my first trip to Vancouver during the 2006 season to start that year, and have made it up at
least once a season since then. I love the city for its beauty, good pubs, great beer, interesting
sights, and laid back attitude, although in the years since I've been going up, I haven't seen the
Timbers win there.

As you've probably heard, there's no English or Spanish-language coverage on US cable television
for the USA-Honduras qualifier. Luckily (I guess), there's a company that's offering the game to
pubs. Ah, just like the good old days.
For a really slow and annoying site with all of the pubs showing the match, visit CopaTV.

The list of confirmed qualifiers for next year is as follows:
Australia, Brazil, England, Ghana, Holland, Japan, North Korea, Paraguay, South
Korea and Spain. Possibly the only surprise there is North Korea (making
their second appearance in the finals) but all of these countries have qualified before.

We all know that the Premier League is a multi-billion pound product broadcast to hundreds of
millions of homes in every continent of the world. Games each week are intensely watched by people
sitting in homes and pubs from Cardiff, Wales through to Cairo, Egypt and Sydney, Australia.
Advertisers also know this.

This fall Sam Bean will be traveling to Europe to go to pubs, party, have Eurotrip like
experiences, and, most of all, attend as many football matches as possible. As part of this trip I
will post regularly about the games I attend and anything else that might be interesting. My first
game will probably be September 26, Fulham vs.

Well it was the bottom of the table clash we've been waiting for all season. I walked from the
shop, past the Irish Pub on the corner which only had AFL on, and past the two pubs in the mall
which also only had AFL on, to the Pig & Whistle on the mall which had AFL on two screens and the
A-League on the smallest third screen.

The official MLS website has a nice little pub guide that tries to list the pubs that are very
soccer friendly. We all know it can be tough to find a bar that you can watch a soccer game at
with sound. Usually you get some weird looks if you ask for Fox Soccer Channel. So this is a
great idea to have a pub guide.

Premier League season followed a few days later by the Champions League Final in Rome. But just

Everton's end of term party was pretty routine really,
Everyone had stayed in the pubs to watch the end of the Utd v Arsenal game so getting into Goodison
was fairly tricky. West Ham threatened to spoil the day by scoring a 30 yard screamer which was
applauded by the Everton fans such was the quality of the strike (although Howard's reading of the
drive and positioning was possibly suspect.

By three o'clock this afternoon, it is likely that Manchester United will be the Premier League
champions again. A point from their lunchtime kick-off against Arsenal today will be enough to
ensure that the title returns to Old Trafford and, while there will be a small amount of amusement
to be taken from studying whether Arsene Wenger will be able to witness of all of this with any
grace (conventional wisdom says no, but the smart money is on a lot of smiling through gritted
teeth), for those of us of a certain age, it will be the end of an era because if or when
Manchester United win this year's Premier League, they will tie Liverpool's record of eighteen
championship wins.

Live televised football is making its return to heartlands on the Labour Day (1st May 2009), when
Geylang United will play hosts to defending Singapore Cup holders SAFFC at the Bedok Stadium.
The Eagles are enjoying some good run of form lately since Mike Wong took over as the head coach of
the Bedok-based team, whereas the SAFFC Warriors aren't having that kind of luxury after that away
defeat to DPMM that knocked them off from the top of the table days ago at Brunei.

Melbourne's pubs and hotels, currently dealing with a rash of alcohol-induced violence and

4. Watching Games in British-Themed Sports Pubs
North American Football Fans (NAFFs) are a solitary bunch. Often suffering from internet addiction,
they tend to keep their football and their social lives separate, that is, until match day. When
Saturday, Tuesday or Wednesday rolls around, watching a blurry Justin TV live-streamed game with
Cantonese commentary comes a distant second to going down to your local "Bishop's
Bollocks" to see your favourite Eee Pee El club on the big screen.
