The Oxlade/Arshavin substitution IMO was based on logic and not emotion/sentiment/psychology; it
was based on ideal conditions and not real world conditions. IMO Arsene is very theoretical/logical
in his decision making. Oxlade was one of Arsenal best players on the day but it was his debut.
Wing play is extremely hard work at the top [.
Ahead of their important match up against third place seat, Tottenham Hotspurs this weekend,
Manchester City's defender, Joleon Lescott insisted that getting a win over Spurs wouldn't be an
attempt to stop Harry Redknapp's team surged in the table but more of staying away from Manchester
United's chase.
"I started football really late, at about 15 or 16. I represented my county and my school at
athletics and it was exciting but I wasn't too sure which event I really liked. I was good at field
events like long jump and triple jump and it was exciting times.
This (from the offal) is interesting to me.
What follows is a selection of extracts taken from various Arsenal forums at various points over
the past couple of days, starting from VDV's opening goal.
This is a genuine insight into the thoughts and feelings of our arch rivals and the psychology of
football fans and how their state of mind declines as such situations progress in the wake of a
defeat against such bitter local rivals.
The one thing I have noticed about teams that have won titles, is that they take their chances
– I mean even the one chance you would consider slightest, to win a football match. Pundits have
termed it ‘champion's luck' but in actual sense, every team has this champions luck. What makes
the difference is that some teams take these chances and win titles; others do not and end up in
the championship!
Sir Alex Ferguson has been through a lot in his 25 years as manager of Manchester United. Through a
combination of man management, manipulating the press, psychology and outwitting opponents through
his often surprising team selections, the Scot has...

A new era of US Soccer will start tomorrow, when Jurgen Klinsmann is formally introduced to the
media as the new national team coach.
Rob Hughes of the NY Times writes of the potential influence that Klinsmann will have on his
adopted nation.
When Jürgen Klinsmann took over as the German national team trainer before the 2006 World Cup,
he opened the eyes of his birth nation.
In the 2006 book Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, Ron Weasly was struggling with low
self-confidence. Harry then pretends to give Ron felix felicis, a potion that makes one lucky.
Believing that he has taken in a dose of liquid luck, Ron performs brilliantly in the day's
Quidditch match. This is a classic example of a placebo effect, an improvement in performance due
to expectations or
In earlier posts, I have discussed the idea of positive and negative leverage - the idea that being
up or down a goal (or two or three) changes the dynamics and the psychology of a match.
Statistically, I defined it as the odds of a team winning the match, given the particular score at
the time and the time remaining in the match.

There is a double standard to a game so capable of engaging and enraging. Where the great bulk of
the audience is concerned, the match is served up to people who are at home or in a sociable pub.
So it is that a Sky presenter has to beg pardon of the nation, even though we all understand that
football rights are worth so much because the game provokes, excites and often forgets good manners
entirely.

The title of this post may sound like a guide on how to deal with a bad break-up, but that isn't
what it's about. Well, mostly.
Last weekend's madness, and that's putting it mildly, will most likely have had a massive
psychological impact on each of the Premier League's top six, and I believe that their reactions to
the weekend's events, in particular, could shape the course of the remainder of this season.
Anterior cruciate ligament injuries are all too common in competitive athletes. ACL ruptures are
usually followed by reconstruction surgery that is then followed by progressive rehabilitation that
may last up to 12 months. Depending on the extent of injury, most players can expect 6-12 months
before being cleared by a physician to return to their previous level of play.
