Following Tottenham Hotspur's victory over Arsenal yesterday, the red side of London has today been linked to PSV's Kevin Strootman. The 23 year old could Dutch international would be a welcome signing for Arsene Wenger's side, as the club failed to replace their former defensive midfielder when Alex Song signed for FC Barcelona this past summer.

The CSKA Moscow talent has won a major battle to get fit for inclusion in the squad. Born in 1990, he will be one of the youngest players in the tournament but Dick Advocaat knows the importance of his linking skills behind either Pavel Pogrebnyak or Roman Pavlyuchenko.

During an illustrious career that has lasted 21 seasons, Mark van Bommel has brought his uniquely aggressive brand of football to PSV, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Milan. Back with PSV this season, the 36-year-old midfielder played his 350th Eredivisie game on Sunday, which turned out to be a 3-1 loss at FC Twente.

With seven games remaining in the Eredivisie the destination of the championship is no clearer than it was at the beginning of the campaign.

Feyenoord beat PSV 2-1 at De Kuip over the weekend to whittle down Eindhoven's lead at the top of the Eredivisie to just three points, but it was the guff that followed the match which has gained the most attention.

Having already had a bit of a barney on the pitch during a tetchy match, PSV's Jeremaine Lens was caught on 'tunnel-cam' lurking at the top of the stairs for Joris Mathijsen to come in from the pitch and, after waiting for some time, Lens pounced on the Feyenoord centre-half, grabbing a handful of Mathijsen's shirt before a multi-man fracas ensued.

The Dutch Cup Final is set to take place this evening in Rotterdam as AZ Alkmaar take on PSV Eindhoven in what should be a fantastic end to Holland's domestic cup. PSV Eindhoven currently sit second in the table while Alkmaar sit in tenth, but league tables won't matter this evening as both sides set their sights on silverware.

EINDHOVEN MIGHT BE Holland's fifth largest city, but they still had to find the keys to unlock the airport when I arrived there with a photographer in the spring of 1998. We had flown there to meet Jaap Stam just a week after he had joined Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven for £10.75 million, then the largest transfer fee ever paid for a defender.

Amidst all the names being linked with a move to Spurs this morning, there are two that won't be that familiar to supporters. The alleged January war chest has brought a flood of connections this morning so in a quite international week, it might just be worth looking at the two new boys.

With the success of Belgian players in the Premier League it's easy to link more of their countrymen with a move to England.

t is no secret that Brendan Rodgers likes young hard working players. The manager has made it one of Liverpool's missions to bring great young talent in hopes to creating a squad for the future over the next few seasons.

Manchester United has gotten the green light to being their true pursuit of PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands international forward, Kevin Strootman. The young Dutchman is believed to be a January transfer target for the English giants and could produce an interesting transfer saga if it all comes to pass.

Former Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has announced his decision to retire after opting not to renew his contract with Malaga.

The former Dutch international feels the time has come to end his superb career.

"Yesterday I've played my last match in my professional career," he told reporters.

In his first match after nine months off with a foot injury, PSV's Erik Pieters was sent off in the 67th minute of his side's 3-1 loss to PEC Zwolle on Friday. Pieters was understandably frustrated by this, but unleashed his frustration with a kick to the side of the tunnel as he made his way to the dressing room and topped it off by stupidly punching through a window.

In which, irate having been harshly sent off for a slightly mistimed slide tackle againstPEC Zwolle last night, PSV defender Erik Pieters (who was playing his first game after nine months out injured) hulks up while storming off the pitch and duly begins to kick the living daylights out of the tunnel a tantrum that culminates in Pieters punching through a plate glass window and slicing his hand apart like rare venison.

Sometimes, superlatives aren't necessary. PSV Eindhoven spent their Friday visiting Bangkok's infamous Klong Prem Central Prison, Thailand's largest correctional facility ('home' to 20,000 inmates most of whom are serving life sentences), for a tour of the premises after being invited over for tea by the Thai authorities.

AFC Ajax Amsterdam were crowned the champions of Eredivisie last season as they left their league rivals Feyenoord and PSV six and seven points behind respectively. They managed to score the most goals in the season (93) and conceded the second least in the league (36).
