Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson is aware that Tottenham Hotspur's terrific form
throughout the season indicates their prowess, particularly at White Hart Lane.
Following Monday night's goalless draw at Anfield, third-place Spurs return home and with
manager Harry Redknapp cleared of tax evasion charges, the North London outfit will be completely
focused on picking up all three points in Saturday's late kick-off.

A budding Prem player?
Edson Buddle set for a trial with Everton. Good move all around.
Buddle was going nowhere with Ingolstadt and neither was Ingolstadt. In fact, he was a
liability in the compensation department.
The former Galaxy man didn't get secured at West ham and now moves on to Everton looking to go
for a ride (either on the pine or the pitch) until the end of the campaign.

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The second day of the MLS Combine was the first day for Ethan Finlay,
who had arrived to the Sunshine State on Saturday. He had missed the first day of the event on
Friday to attend the Hermann Trophy Award ceremony in St.
Villa-Villa-Villa, Villa Maravilla! Road to recovery begins for Spain's kid is a post from: Just

David Villa is not the most controversial of footballers. If you're the type of
fan that likes his players a little rough around the edges, or the type for whom players only
register when they do something out of the ordinary the Barcelona striker may
rarely even register.
Football Focus pundit Garth Crooks has praised the performances of Martin Skrtel in light of the
towering centre-half's superb individual effort at the weekend.
The Slovakian international scored Liverpool's second goal during the 2-0 win against Aston Villa
and the 27-year-old has been one of Kenny Dalglish's most consistent performers.
When people use the word 'saga', it's usually in relation to a beloved film franchise or some
centuries old epic tale, however this saga doesn't take place in a galaxy far far away or in the
pages of history, it all started when a world class footballer decided to swap the red half of
Manchester for the blue.

So, West Ham unveiled their new mascot 'Hammerhead' before their 1-0 win over Barnsley at Upton
Park on Saturday...
Saints be praised, it looks like he's got a back story too:
"Foundered in the Thames Iron Works many decades ago, the workers who crafted a new champion
drew on the spirits of heroes old and new to create the ultimate goal machine.
Once again the College Cup is upon us. While this game has little to do with MLS as a whole,
it's nice to see the current top crop of NCAA soccer prospects, especially since many of them are
probably looking at MLS as an entry to playing professionally. A few are probably already signed up
for Generation Adidas as well.
It will go down in the records book as a comfortable 4-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano at the Camp
Nou tonight. But this game was much more than that. After the weekend's shocking 1-0 defeat to
Getafe, Barcelona found itself in the unusual position of looking up at Real Madrid. Before
tonight's kick-off Barca was six points behind Madrid and Pep Guardiola's team knew that they could
not allow that gap to grow any wider if they were to have any hope of retaining their La Liga
crown.
Well that was no fun. Despite outplaying Fulham, luck was not on our side today, and we dropped two
important points at home. Credit goes to Schwarzer in particular for keeping them in it, while
RvP's prowess around the goal finally let him down today. Vermaelen was the goat for his howler of
an own goal, but he gained a measure of redemption with a header to level things late.

We can't deny we were quite the lushes this weekend.
With our gluttony on a roll, we give you Carles Puyol's thigh(s). This may or may not resemble
your brain on drugs, but just go with it. It's the best we can offer you at this time.

- The Mirror tried to get cute with an infographic of their own but nothing will beat
the original.
As tradition goes, I never feel confident before a match against promoted opposition away from
home. Arsenal, who naturally take up the mantle of Goliath in these clashes, have a tendency to
trip up from a sly foot thrown forward by these Davids; and such matches have an even greater
probability of being forbearers of frustration if they succeed an international break.
Nothin' left but the friendlies. Playoffs have ended, sadly for some tragically, really, since
none of the aggregates were even close and the lineup is set with a couple of surprises, like
Ireland and...no, just Ireland. The list of those who failed to RSVP is devoid of titanic names,
leaving us with a heavy battle royale to be had in Polkraine.
Check out the video and you'll know how to stop the Roar!
If you watched the recent Wellington Roar game you'll have seen Ivan Franjic played in time and
time again a la the above video training drill. Four men in the box, the ball played back or across
to a Roar player.
In the drill there were only defenders - against Wellington and Victory there were 7 or 8!
Newcastle United kept up their unbeaten run with a 2-1 win over Everton. That's eleven matches
already and tongues are complimentary at the prowess of Alan Pardew in building a solid team spirit
in spite of losing Kevin Nolan, Andy Carroll and Joey Barton in the summer. The Magpies remain the
only other team yet to be beaten this season.
Keegan: Carroll's the best
Kevin Keegan today hailed Andy Carroll's aerial prowess as the best he's ever seen and is
backing the Reds' striker to follow in the footsteps of his former strike partner John Toshack,
boss of Swansea when they last played at Anfield in the top flight.
Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo bagged his 100th goal for the club as Jose Mourinho's men
dispatched Olympique Lyon 2-0 at the Stade Gerland to book their place in the last 16. The
nine-time winners were never really tested with a rather subdued Gerland crowd forced to
acknowledge the prowess, vigour, tenacity and ruthlessness of [.
As for a Genk recap, friends, I'm not doing it. Jack's not doing. Jamie's not doing it. Your
loyal scribes simply refuse to put words on that performance. Dire, would be as far as I'd go in
terms of a description. Beyond that, I've got nothing else to say about the match itself. But, I do
have some thoughts on what we've witnessed since the QPR debacle that may well shed a light on some
of our misfortunes of late.
The Union will have a one goal differential to make up when they travel to Houston on Thursday
evening in the second leg of their playoff match up. A frantic first half saw Houston score on only
six minutes through Andre Hainault, only for the Union to equalize a minute later through Sebastien
Le Toux.
After viewing a film like "Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story" it's hard not to be emotional.
The tale is one of intrigue and inspiration that will serve as motivation for young athletes all
over the country. Make no mistake this is a real movie; with production value and a true story.
It's clear that those involved all believed in the message and the love they had for Jay is clear
as well.

England ever need a goal in injury team.

After yesterday's calamity involving Carlos Tevez's refusal to come on as substitute for
Manchester City in their Champions League match against Bayern Munich, Manchester City today
summarily laid down a 2-week suspension on the Argentinian striker whilst the club conducted it's
own internal investigation.
Sure, the Fire's game against Chivas was on Telefutura, but it didn't take my half-reading of
the Spanish subtitles to realize the obvious: Chicago was looking pretty strong. And not even in
the playing-the-last-place-team sort of way where everyone just happens to have a good game (sorry,
Chivas fans); the Fire really showed a lot of prowess over the ball, and didn't seem to show any of
the general ineptitude they usually do (you know, scoring, etc).
Fabricio Coloccini has been interviewed by the Newcastle Journal today, and the Newcastle captain

Saturdays loss to a frustrating Stoke side on a mentally frustrating day, full of squandered
chances that should have ultimately have seen Liverpool bag all three points at the Britannia
Stadium.
The game was full of moments that Liverpool would go on to rue as the home side ran out 1-0
winners, despite all the chances and opportunities falling the Reds way.
English clubs in Europe – present but not transcendent | Kevin McCarra
Despite being Champions League regulars, top clubs from the Premier League have struggled to
blend heft and finesse to make iconic teams England's clubs have been achieving prominence rather
than excellence in the Champions League.
When Rafa Benitez signed Glen Johnson in 2009, I argued at the time that it was a mistake to spend
such a large amount of money on a player that Liverpool (arguably) didn't need. Given the
catastrophic failure of the two seasons he has been at Anfield, I'm struggling to see what
specific, measurable impact Johnson has had on the team, and how he fits into the 'new' Liverpool
under Kenny Dalglish.

New England Manager Steve Nicol put it best: "Both teams were as bad defensively as each
other."
Le Toux helps Union rally for tie | Philadelphia Daily News | 09/08/2011
NO ONE has questioned his drive and intensity.
Sheanon Williams has come a long way since he signed with the Union in late August of 2010.
Williams is in the midst of a stellar year and he's a player Union fans are glad to have. His
physicality and prowess going forward have proven to be both threatening and impressive against
opposing teams. We spoke to Sheanon briefly about his season so far and his thoughts on the future.
There's a good question as to whether Newcastle have enough striking prowess at the club, to see us
through until January comes around, when presumably Newcastle can try again to buy a top class
striker. Leon Best - can get the job done again for Newcastle I have a feeling that we'll do just
fine with Demba [.
Someone questioned on the blog yesterday whether our new line-up would be able to score enough
goals, so I thought it would be interesting to compare the goalscoring prowess of the new players
against those who have departed based on past performances.
Now I realise that stats are generally just a way of manipulating figures so they masquerade as
facts.
Dale Terry comments on a direct correlation between manager's apparel and their team's success

Coaches who wears suits on game days get the most out of their teams according to new research from
the University of Portsmouth.
Researchers asked 97 men and women to react to photographs of four different coaches: lean and
large coaches in suits and tracksuits.
Giuseppe Belnini/Getty Images(Bleacher Report)SS Lazio and Argentine forward Mauro Zarate has been
linked with a move to Arsenal since early January during last season. However, a move is yet to
have materialized.
Given the recent sale of Cesc Fabregas, it could prove that a real attempt to lure the player away
from Rome just might be in the works.
Will Ivan Klasnic break out and earn a starting job?
Top Scorer: Ivan Klasnic
I struggled with this category. Our shortage of strikers made it so there was no obvious option. In
the end I went with Klasnic for several reasons. He's scored 5 times in preseason, which will build
up his confidence.

Any time an old streak ends, a new one can begin and that is exactly what will be on the minds
of the Union players when they square off against Houston this Saturday at PPL Park.
With the greatest respect to Manchester United's US tour opponents, it would difficult to draw
any incisive conclusions from their four successive wins pre-Barcelona friendly where they
tallied an impressive 18 goals because the opposition were simply abject and below standard.
However, a match up against the side that they had been routinely beaten by in the Wembley final in
May would be far more educative and despite both teams not opting for full-strength, the level of
quality on the pitch would have considerably improved to United's previous games.
I know I haven't been around much but the new job is keeping me way busier than expected. But, I
am hoping that I have things in place to at least get back here once a week. Here is some
highlights from things that have happened recently in the world of SKC.
- SKC hit the transfer market and picked up a couple of foreign players to make an impact on the
team this season and potentially in the future.
The great Arsenal garage sale appears to be gathering apace in the last seven days. Jay Emmanuel
Thomas has sashayed out of the exit door without the indignity of it subsequently hitting him on
the arse. Emmanuel Eboue is attracting suitors with a thousand strong red and white clad army
offering a temporary airport taxi service.
There's no slowing Olivier Occean down.
The Canadian international striker was a force for his old club, Kickers Offenbach, in the
German 3.Liga last season, scoring 16 times in 30 league appearances. His attacking prowess was
rewarded with a move up the ladder to the 2.
