The month so far: CONCACAF, USL, WPS, 90-yard goals

1

Things I would've blogged over the past three weeks had I not been racing all over China:

- Cleveland rules USL's Second Division.

- The USL teams are outperforming MLS teams so far in the CONCACAF Champions League, about which I'll have more later. The biggest shocker: Puerto Rico taking a road draw at Costa Rican power Alajuelense.

The "other" number 12 in New England

5
I am not a patient man. At all.

I suppose it's a combination of being 1) a man, 2) Portuguese, 3) Irish, and 4)stubborn. I liked Dark Knight until that part where Harvey Dent becomes Two-Face. It should have ended right there. Cue the credits, check out the sequel in two years. Instead, it dragged on another hour, and by the time all those people were trapped on the ferries, I just wished both of 'em blew up simultaneously and ended it right there. Martin O'Neill is losing it

3
If Ashley Young is worth £30 million then I'm worth £50 million and I'll through in the rights to Pro Soccer Weekly. Martin O'Neill is crazy if he thinks he can get that much a fringe player on the England team that can't even make it to the Euro 2008 tournament and is drawing 2-2 with a weakened Czech Republic team. Who the Hell Does Davy Arnaud Think He Is?

9
Did you see Davy Arnaud's goal over Chivas USA this weekend? The Wizards midfielder out of West Texas A&M University --sorry but I had to put in a shout out for Randall County, where my parents live-- put one in that was equal parts And 1 Mixtape & trained seal performance. If this whole "I'm a pro soccer player thing" doesn't work out he can always join the circus. Click to continue reading...

Whole Hog -- The Birth of Toronto FC

5
When in February 2003, the Canadian Soccer Association broke the MLS taboo and admitted they wanted into the American pro-soccer league, few would have imagined 20 000 young fans chanting and singing at every match in four years' time. The headline, tucked in the back pages of the Globe and Mail sports section, probably drew little attention. Click to continue reading...

So is Jurgen Klinsmann the next Santiago Bernabéu?

1
I was reading this article on ESPN's website and it got me to thinking, how does Bayern Munich expect to measure success during Jurgen Klinsmann's time as manager. Are they expecting to go on a run of Champions League victories? What exactly is the measure of success? They won the Champions League Cup back in 2001. Click to continue reading...

While the US' Women's Pro Soccer league has enjoyed a relatively high-profile launch, Australia has quietly been laying the groundwork for a professional national women's league of their own. Naked Revolution

5

Sounds like the New England Revolution had a strange flight to Southern California today for Sunday's SuperLiga game against Chivas USA:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- An American Airlines flight from Boston to Los Angeles was diverted to Oklahoma City on Friday after a passenger stripped, put his clothes back on and then tried to open an emergency exit door before being subdued by members of a pro soccer team andothers, the FBI said.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Sepp Blatter go way too far

1
Cristiano Ronaldo has every right to file a transfer request and let it be known that he would like to leave Manchester United for Real Madrid. However, for him and Sepp Blatter to associate his situation with slavery is insulting at best and highly offensive. They have absolutely no right to be using that comparison, considering the history of slavery throughout the world and the negative connotation that it brings about. Click to continue reading...

Some Saturday Soccer Observations

6

Good evening folks. After a day of sun, and the requisite nap that comes with sunning, I wanted to offer up some observations as well as news tidbits to keep the day going for those of you who have turned to SBI for your soccer fix.

Peru reduces suspensions, stars set to return

The case for Joe-Max Moore

0
It might take a miracle for Joe-Max Moore to make the list of inductees for this year's National Soccer Hall of Fame enshrinement.

Although he gained an impressive 48.2% of the vote during his first year on the ballot, Moore will be hard-pressed to make the cut this year. Stacked against fellow repeat nominees Marco Etcheverry and Carlos Valderrama and newcomers Preki and Ernie Stewart, Moore will likely have to wait at least another year before becoming the second Revolution player to be fitted for a scarlet jacket (Alexi Lalas being the first in 2006).
