As excitement builds ahead of The FA Cup with Budweiser Fourth Round Proper,
the financial impact of the competition has been revealed in a new report by the Sports Business
Group at Deloitte.
Speaking on an inspection trip to Brazil, FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke put the potential
profit for the 2014 World Cup at $200 million dollars. The figure is the difference between the
predicted $3.5 billion in revenue and the $3.3 billion in expenses that includes prize money,
payments to clubs for use of players, and disbursement of funds to associations for what Valcke
termed "financial aid.
Manchester United chief executive David Gill is to lead an immediate financial review at Old
Trafford as the club's owners, the Glazer family, take steps to assess the ramifications of a
potential £20million shortfall in prize-money following the club's group stage elimination from
the Champions League.
