NEWS: Boost for Southend cyclists

Cyclists in Southend have been given a boost with the news that work has begun on the eastern section of the Prittle Brook Greenway scheme between Victoria Avenue and Prittlewell Chase.

NEWS: Legal proceedings begin over Cuckoo Corner

Legal proceedings have begun against protestors, occupying an area of land at Cuckoo Corner in Southend.
Court papers were this afternoon (Mar 15) served on the Camp Cuckoo campaigners, who have delayed the start of works for a £5m road improvement scheme.

NEWS: "Scaremongering" claims over Cuckoo Corner

Conservatives in Southend have released two new computer generated images of the proposed new development at Cuckoo Corner, suggesting protest groups are "scaremongering" over the multi-million pound development.

Protesters who feared either tree felling or eviction from their site at Priory Park in Southend say there's been no action by council contractors overnight.

Around 3,000 people originally from Poland are estimated to live in Southend and surrounding areas, and the Essex town is twinned with Sopot - a Polish coastal resort on the Baltic Sea.

Southend's Saxon secrets are preserved

A Southend site thought to be one of the earliest Christian burial grounds in the country, is to be turned into a open space for the public to enjoy.
Archaelogists from the Museum of London unearthed the Saxon chamber back in 2003 at Priory Crescent, on the edge of Priory Park - finding a bounty of artefacts including gold crosses, gold buckles and blue glass vessels. Click to continue reading...
