held in the highest regard by his current boss, Billy Davies, who signed Wilson for Preston North
End and then for current [.

19.30 Schalke 04 v Eintracht Frankfurt, Bundesliga, ESPN
An intriguing one this. While Schalke lie fourth, they desperately need to improve matters at home
having lost five of their last six matches at the Veltins-Arena. United, meanwhile, are unbeaten on
their travels, picking up seven points from a possible nine so far this season.

I know, I know. It's been a few weeks. And words alone can't atone for my absence. The shocking
truth is that over the last two weeks I've been swamped with going away, moving house and generally
not having time to sit down and offer my collective musings on Spurs. And for that I apologise
sincerely.

HMRC finally managed to swing the axe successfully against a football club today, and Hyde
United were the victims. It's ironic, really. Hyde, as have so many small clubs for as long as any
of us can remember, have been occasionally poorly run over the last few years, but they were by no
means the worst offenders in the game.

Two days ago, I speculated as to Preston North End's chances of emulating the Stoke City of 2008
and the Burnley of 2009 in elevating themselves next May. Sean St. Ledger's move to Middlesbrough
on loan is a rare example of an upwardly mobile borrowing. That's not to denigrate the Lilywhites
of course; it's just that one suspects a subsequent hefty fee will be forked out for the
faux-Irishman

Boro have confirmed the loan signings of Sean St Ledger from Preston North End and Caleb Folan
from Hull City to strengthen the squad ahead of the promotion push.
St Ledger is a central defender who comes in to the squad as a replacment for Robert Huth.
Currently young Seb Hines is partnering David Wheater at the heart of the Boro defence so there is
a good chance of St Ledger working his way into the first team.

Ah, Sir Tom Finney, one of the finest exponents of footballing skill ever to wear the shirt of
England is a living legend. A gentleman and a true star of the post war game, Finney epitomises
everything that was great about those halcyon days of English football. Born in Preston, in 1922,
Finney is a rare breed of footballers that saw active service in the Second World War and continued
playing up to 1960.

A number of Englishmen are off overseas following stints in England or, as in two cases, under the

You've probably heard of "The War On Drugs", the US government's equivalent of pushing a pea up
a hill with one's nose which aims to eradicate illegal narcotics forever by cutting them off at
source whilst telling young people that drugs are "bad, m'kay?". Football has its own equivalent,
the savage sentencing of anyone caught with anything banned floating around in their bloodstream,
and this summer's pin-up boy for the anti-drugs in sport movement looks like being the Sheffield
United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, who tested positive for ephedrine after last year's Championship
play-off match against Preston North End.

The impact of this signing cannot over emphasized. For years and years top European clubs have
shown no interest in American field players. Most European oriented American fans (eurosnobs as
they are often called) have laughed off any suggestion of an American field player playing for a
top European side.

OK, starting this weekend off already 1-0 is a nice, nice way to begin, let me tell you.
It just continues my roll, where I finished 4-4 last week, good for a nice (or at least nicer than
it has been) 33-51 mark. (not including Dynamo's solid win against the
