David Beckham helped LA Galaxy to a 5-2 CONCACAF Champions League victory over Salvadorian club Isidro Metapan last night and in doing so recorded the 1,000th CONCACAF Champions League goal ever.

Despite the keeper playing a major role in the goal, Beckham was credited with the strike which was incidently his third goal direct from a corner in his incredible career, last season against Chicago Fire was his second, his first came on-loan at Preston North End in 1995.

David Beckham was credited with scoring an Olimpico goal in the LA Galaxy's 5-2 CONCACAF Champions League win against Salvadorian club Isidro Metapan. The goal came just before halftime and ended up being the 1,000th goal in the history of the CONCACAF Champions League.

Though Beckham's corner looked like it was curling towards the far side netting, goalkeeper Fidel Mondragon ensured it went in by blocking the ball into the near side netting over the head of a teammate.

CHESTER, Pa. -- At the start of 2012, many people had written Eddie Johnson off. After all, he had languished for several years in Europe, moving from club to club.

But after returning to MLS with the Seattle Sounders, Johnson has found his form once again, and he proved that Wednesday night when he delivered a stoppage time winner as the MLS All-Stars defeated European champions Chelsea, 3-2, at PPL Park.

We continue our series of archive videos of the clubs of Football League One this morning with one of the twelve founder members of the Football League and the first champions of England in 1889, Preston North End. We don't have footage, of course, of their first unbeaten season in the Football League, but we do have six matches from the years between 1905 and 1992, kicking off with some Mitchell & Kenyon footage of a match between Preston and Aston Villa from 1905.

If the Insolvency Service (IS) had wanted to really punish Preston North End "chairman of football" Peter Ridsdale for his recently-revealed derelictions of directorship duties, they would not have stopped at barring him from holding company directorships for seven-and-a-half-years. They would surely have barred him from any personal PR-activities.

We could argue, perhaps, that there is one set of rules for the well-to-do and another for the rest of us. Peter Ridsale, latterly of Leeds United, Barnsley, Cardiff City, Plymouth Argyle and currently at Preston North End, has been disqualified from acting as a company director for seven and a half years following an investigation carried out by Insolvency Service into the collapse of into the collapse of his company WH Sports Group Limited (WHSG), which provided sports and leisure consultancy services to football clubs from 2003 on.

O good old man, how well in thee appears the constant service of the antique world, when service sweat for duty, not for meed!

Less than a week after literally kicking his players up the backside and pulling off the upset of the Capital One Cup second round with a 4-3 extra-time win over Stoke, Paolo Di Canio and Swindon Town returned to League One player and lost 4-1 to Preston North End. Preston scored twice in the first 10 minutes, with the first goal coming off a goalkeeper error, prompting Di Canio to take 21-year-old goalkeeper Wes Foderingham off in just the 21st minute.

Whether footballers should celebrate goals they score against their former clubs has always seemed like an odd debate that places far too much importance on a relatively insignificant issue, but Northern Ireland striker David Healy is learning that such an act can serve as the basis for karmic retribution even years later.

The Portland Timbers have been in search for upgrades at the fullback positions, and the club addressed that need on Wednesday.

The Timbers signed Scottish left back Steven Smith -- Timbers forward Kris Boyd's former teammate at Rangers -- adding another option out wide defensively for coach John Spencer.
