The Philadelphia Union will return to Florida to play the Orlando City Lions in a friendly on
February 18 at 7:30, according to the Lions' team website. The announcement comes within a day of a
Costa Rican news outlet reporting a friendly between the Union and Deportivo Saprissa next
summer.
Per the Orlando website:
This year marks year two of a four-year agreement between Orlando City and the Philadelphia
Union.
FC Dallas signed 16-year-old goalkeeper Richard Sanchez as a homegrown player on Friday, giving
the team a league-record six homegrowns on its first-team roster.
Sanchez, a goalkeeper for Mexico's Under-17 national team, joins Bryan Levya, Ruben Luna, Moises
Hernandes, Victor Ulloa and Jon Top as homegrown signings for the MLS Cup runners-up.
Coach Vermes and Kevin Ellis during preseason training. Sporting Kansas City is prepared to
announce their second Home Grown player in club history today. The speculation is that it will be
Kevin Ellis. Coaches have praised him throughout the preseason. Ellis was a member of the Juniors
program for Kansas City playing for the U-16, U-18 and U-19 teams.
The Philadelphia Union announced on Tuesday that they have waived Cristian Arrieta.
Arrieta had fifteen starts in sixteen appearances for the club with 1,343 minutes played. His
first start, in the Union season opener against DC United, came only a day after he signed with the
club.
The solidification of the defensive lineup with Sheanon Williams at right back and Michael
Orozco Fiscal partnering with Danny Califf in the middle resulted in the marginalization of Arrieta
as a starter.
The Union's preseason training schedule has become a little clearer with the news that the club
will train for two weeks in Orlando, Fl. and then head to Greece for a further two weeks.
Before that, the Union will be training at YSC Sports in Wayne, PA., January 24 through January
28. Training sessions will be open to the public from 11am through 1pm.
