The number of football podcasts that are available on iTunes is staggering. In terms of quality,
it's definitely a case of the good, the bad and the ugly. But if you're a football supporter of a
Premier League club, you may find the following list helpful of the official podcasts that are
avalable for each club (well, most of them there are still some Premiership clubs who are living in
the dark ages).
The decision of Manchester United and Liverpool not to have an embroidered red poppy on their
shirts has caused quite a fuss. United have said that the poppy will not show up on their shirts
and with all the work and charity they already do for the armed forces, don't feel that joining
other Premiership clubs in having a poppy on their shirt will add to the contribution.
The English Carling Cup continued on Tuesday with round 4. Many of the teams remaining are
Premiership clubs however one of the Championship sides is Barnsley. They hosted Manchester United
on Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Here's a recap of the match along with video highlights.
Manchester United beats Barnsley 2-0 Video Highlights
Manchester United used a reserve squad and rested virtually all of their top players as they
still cruised past Barnsley Tuesday night in the English Carling Cup.

By CHRIS LARKIN With Rugby Union's blood gate incident taking up the majority of Sky Sports'
time I was relieved to see Football back as the main focus point of the channel and was shocked to
see that Chelsea had been ban from making any transfers until January 2011.
I do have sympathy towards Chelsea's case in the way they appear to be singled out but if I'm
quite honest I find it hard to actually feel sorry for teams when so many Stockport County players
have been poached over the years for pittance, it's disgraceful we spend time and money training
quality players that could get County to the next level and then get sold on for alot of money but
the ‘bigger' clubs always come in and coax the naive kids into coming to the bigger team, when in
actual fact all it does if deprive County of a player that could've really helped us and in many
cases will ruin the players career.
Premiership clubs have spent a lot of money on new players this summer and even
though it is still too early to make final judgment, some of them have already started to
prove their potential. Six games is definitely not enough time for players to show all
they've got, but a couple of summer signings have made a big impact already and I felt obliged to
create the top 5 list.
If you didn't like that pun I apologize. I thought it was pretty good. Then again, puns tend to
annoy a lot of people. Why? I don't know. It's not like it is the lowest form of humour. That would
be sarcasm. "Yeah, right!" (said Samuel Johnson) Anyway, the title is in reference to tomorrow's Champions League opener game against Liege. Click to continue reading...
Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has announced the Premier League's plans to
instate a home-grown players rule. The rule will be effective beginning next season and throws a
whole new wrench into the under 18 transfers debate.
The Premier League's ruling means that Premiership clubs can have no more than 17 non-homegrown
players.

Tom Cleverley had hoped he could stay at Manchester United this season after scoring against
Valencia in a pre-season friendly. Sir Alex Ferguson said Premiership clubs were interested in
signing him, but it is Watford who have won the race to take him there on loan until January.
Just because Premier League action is here doesn't mean that we're free of transfer rumors just
yet. All summer long the speculation has surrounded Real Madrid, and Los Blancos haven't closed
their books for the summer yet. Two of their Dutch stars are still looking for new places to ply
their trade, and in Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart there are still two bargains of the
summer waiting to be snatched.
Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he's not entirely sure what to do with Tom Cleverley, the United
youngster who scored against Valencia last night. A few Premiership clubs appear to be interested
in landing his services on loan, whilst the player himself is happy to play wherever the manager
thinks is best.
"Bobby Robson became the heart that English football wore on its sleeve." The words are a
touching epitaph from the beginning of David Lacey's tribute to Sir Bobby Robson in this morning's
Guardian, after the footballing great passed away yesterday. But they only do him partial justice.
Best known in England for successful spells as a player then manager at Fulham, West Bromich
Albion, Ipswitch Town and Newcastle and for his eight years at the helm of the English national
team his feats overseas often go undocumented, or at best overlooked.
With the arrival of Peter Crouch, Tottenham now have four top strikers at what should be the
peak of their football careers. In this day and age, Premiership clubs need to have a depth of
talent in all areas of their squads but this means some players are likely to miss out. If all our
strikers can keep themselves fit for the majority of the season, how will Harry keep them
happy?
A report by the Commission on the Future of Women's Sport which the BBC's Gordon Farquhar
blogged about earlier this month points out that just 2% of media coverage on elite sport focuses
on women. Now I first got into writing about football by following one of my best friend's journeys
through the matches, tournaments and politics of women's football in Oxford.
Confirmation of the move following the news yesterday that a fee had been agreed. Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell on Evans:
"He's a young striker and we are delighted to have won the race for him because there
was significant interest in him from two Premiership clubs and two from the Championship," he told
sufc.
Real Madrid have signed a whole host of superstars this summer and are continually linked with
more and more players on a daily basis. Most of the players are attackers or strikers as Real
Madrid seem to want to replicate the Galacticos period they had before by mostly ignoring their
defence. After watching their game against Shamrock on Monday night it was clear that the team were
missing something.
Imagine on Monday morning you get a phone call. Your company's biggest competitor is on the
line, offering you exactly the same job but on twice the salary. What's more, they'll give you a
couple of million quid as a sweetener just for signing on. Now don't get me wrong, I love my job.
But you'd have to be a pretty brave or, to be frank, a pretty stupid man to hang up the phone.
CSRN show hosts for Gadsby's England are convinced key England International players should be

game.
While Florentino Pérez has been busy attempting to revenge his fantasy football
frustrations ("why won't The Sun let me have Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaká and Karim
Benzema!?") on Real Madrid, another of Europe's less glamorous elite clubs has been undoing a
"sporting project" of their own.
Liverpool Football Club may be far behind in the race for number of Premier League trophies, but
the club is way ahead in the number of its Twitter followers. So much so that they have more
followers than all of the other 19 Premiership clubs combined.
Embarrassingly, clubs that are institutions in English football such as Manchester United,
Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United don't have official Twitter feeds.

Cup and how important it should be. Feel free to leave Geoff your comments below.
Growing up the other side of the pond, the FA Cup was a way of life where at some point we all
could have taken part in the tournament at some stage.
Fantastic performance on U21EURO have launched Marcus Berg, Swedish international striker into
the football orbit. He sank both Belarus and Serbia with seven goals in four
matches and he deserved the title of championship's best player.
The market reacted right away and the price on this blonde striker grew up so his club Groningen
won't sell him for less than 10 million Euros.
He conquered European champions Spain with two delicate touches of his right foot, then came
within a whisper of masterminding the downfall of world football's Goliath mighty, magnificent
Brazil - in the final of the Confederations Cup. So who is this footballing Adonis? Argentina's
beloved Leo Messi?
Michael Owen had been regarded as one of the most ruthless strikers in world football during his
time at Liverpool but his career took the wrong turn when he left Anfield. He has
spent a couple of injury-ravaged seasons at Newcastle and now that his contract is set to end, Owen
is looking for a new destination.
Every year Premiership managers conspire to spend millions of pounds on exotic sounding foreign
players whose names have never graced the screens of an English TV. Last year it was Marouane
Fellaini, a £15 million signing for Everton. And what's more, his tough tackling, willingness to
play ludicrously out of position, and even more ludicrous haircut have made the Premiership a
better place over the last twelve months.
After winning the historic treble last season, Barcelona will try to repeat the feat this term
and they have already started looking for ways to further reinforce the team. One player who
definitely won't be at Camp Nou is Eidur Gudjohnsen, who has been made
available by Barca, with asking price thought to be in the region of €5
million.
Back in 2006, I interviewed Steve Tew at the New Zealand Rugby Football Union. At the time, he
was the second most important person in All Blacks rugby. Now he's the first. We were talking about
the impact the Pacific Islands have on New Zealand rugby, and he made a pretty convincing case for
players from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga looking to come and play for the All Blacks as a way of
improving their lifestyles while giving something back to their adopted homes.
It has been announced that Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr Al Qasimi chairman of the Ras al Khaimah
Department of Customs and Seaports, has purchased 60 per cent of an English Premier League football
team. Whilst the speculation points to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1> Portsmouth being the
club in question, Mr Sulaiman Al Fahim was at pains to deny that his deal was being supplemented by
Sheikh Al Qasimi.
