MORNING all. Perth Glory has another training session/presser combo today, with Glory coach Dave
Mitchell up on the media chopping block.
There's a little bit of pressure building with two succesive losess and two tough upcoming games
against Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix.
Also there's still some fans who aren't completely satisfied with DM's coaching style.

During the summer Arsenal made one purchase, Thomas Vermaelen. Â A relatively unknown defender
from Ajax, who according to most "experts", was too short to make it in the Premier League. Â Many
Arsenal fans were rightly concerned that instead of a burly centre half in the mould of Hangeland,
instead of a speedy defender we acquired someone who is as fast as Senderos and we let Toure
leave.

If you didn't like that pun I apologize. I thought it was pretty good. Then again, puns tend to
annoy a lot of people. Why? I don't know. It's not like it is the lowest form of humour. That would
be sarcasm. "Yeah, right!" (said Samuel Johnson)
Anyway, the title is in reference to tomorrow's Champions League opener game against Liege.

Sydney FC on top of the table after four rounds...can I stop pinching myself now?
It hasn't always been pretty (especially last week's grind against the Mariners), but Vitezslav
Lavicka can afford a grin. One gets the feeling that they have been lucky in their opposition so
far; Adelaide and North Queensland both look like they will struggle to make the final six, and
Wellington were utterly pedestrian in midfield last night, with the significant exception of Leo
Bertos.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is believed to have stepped up his interest in Arjen Robben, after
reports yesterday suggested Manchester United were keen on the Real Madrid player.
The Spaniard has long been an admirer of the winger, and could go head-to-head with his bitter
rival Sir Alex Ferguson over the player's signature.

As the new season is upon us, Fernando Torres has signed a new five year deal worth £110,000 a
week to keep him at the club until
2014, excellent news.
Meanwhile, doubts persist about Steve Gerrard's groin injury which continues to cause concern for
Sunday's Premier League opener away to Tottenham Hotspur.

Before it was announced officially that Tope Obadeyi was to join Swindon Town on load Danny
Wilson was trying to keep the identity of the player under wraps. He spoke highly of an undisclosed
striker;
"We will have a player in by Saturday. I am 99 percent sure that something will happen before
the weekend.

Liverpool lost another pre-season match at home to Athletico Madrid 2-0.
Jamie Carragher limped off after 13 minutes with an ankle injury and with an inexperienced back
four, we soon conceeded two goals by Aguerro and Diego Forlan.
Without Alonso, now at Madrid, we looked shapeless and rudderless.

So here we are, after weeks and weeks of nothing, just rumours, speculation and pre season games,
today is the official curtain raiser to the new Premier League season. Now some people will say
"Its a nothing game!" or "Its just a showpiece!" and to a point they are right. But to Carlo
Ancelotti and the Chelsea boys its a chance to get their hands on their second trophy together
following the

I don't ever get excited about pre-season games or watch any but it was nice to see Messi scoring a
pair of beautiful goals yesterday against the Seattle Sounders.
Always great to see Argentina fans in the crowd anywhere in the world.
Here's Lio getting ready for a very important season.

Quick update:
It seems that Thomas Rosicky injured his hamstring in training this morning, the injury is
currently being assessed according to the Arsenal Press Office.
I have to admit I was not expecting this, especially after he has looked really on song in the
past couple of pre-season games.

There is no doubt in my mind what makes Atletico Madrid such a potent team on their day; their
strikeforce. Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero are both still with the Madrid club despite heavy
speculation that they might move to pastures new. Forlan has been linked with Real Madrid and
Aguero with Manchester United.

So, the much Emirates cup is here. We have grown to love this competition because it shows we have
a ground big enough to attract the cream of the crop. Real Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan, Valencia
have all visited here before. While PSG are not exactly a big name, Rangers and Atletico Madrid
are. And we are playing these two teams this year.

It`s just a pre-season tournament but we have to imagine Sir Alex Ferguson is going in to
tonight`s match expecting us to win. Given the way Bayern Munich played last night and the fact
they are in front of their home fans, I`d say the odds are against us. They looked a lot sharper
than we did again Boca and showed no signs of the team that got humbled in last season`s Champions
League.

by CARL ELDRIDGE Strange, isn't it? You see, the Daily
Mail this morning trumpet the story they say they broke about Kolo Toure going to
Manchester City and follow it up by claiming AW has confirmed that is the case. To qualify this,
they run this quote from the boss: 'We will see what's happening in the next 24 hours, nothing is
decided yet.

Pre-season continued last night with a 5-0 stroll over Slobadomayz Hashpipes. In the evening
gloom Arsenal's new away kit proved difficult to see, what with it being the exact same colour as
shadows, but that didn't stop Nicklas Bendtner continuing his goal crazy pre-season ways with two
goals.
Even better were two goals for Eduardo who got a good hour under his belt.

The news that Newcastle were humiliatingly beaten 6-1 by Leyton Orient in a pre season friendly on
Saturday further confirms how far this club has fallen. Pre season games should not be over
analysed by any means but when your team is soundly beaten by such a large scoreline then it
suggests that there are [.
