This morning, those that played the fewest minutes in last night's game trained for about 60
minutes at American University in D.C. They went through some passing, individual defense drills
then played a small-sided game with goalkeepers and concluded with a finishing drill. Kurt Morsink,
as the last to finish a cross, then had to summer salt to the halfline as the rest of his teammates
cheered.

The guys went through a light session this morning before departing for San Jose. One thing of
note, defender/midfielder Chance Myers has been removed from the Disabled List and is available for
selection Saturday should Peter Vermes feel he is ready for game action. Kronberg and Souter remain
on the DL.

div style="text-align: justify;"The boys are training out at the stadium today, and boy
does the field look good. Aside from the cutouts for 2nd base and 3rd base, the field is a very
bright color of green. Major kudos to the grounds crew for their work in making this field truly
flawless in advance of the game Saturday.

The second round of questions from Wizards Technical Director Peter Vermes have now been posted
over at Soccer By Ives. Check out his very candid answers about player development in the U.S., his
time as a player in Hungary and the first ever playoff game in MLS history.
Now for the practice pictures:

...You get pictures. The guys leave tomorrow, with the first match of the Guadalajara trip coming
Friday morning against Atlas AC. We'll get the full schedule to you soon. Some opponents and venues
are still being worked out. So you all know, the open tryout registration closes Friday. If you're
interested in giving it a go (or know someone who is), make sure they enroll by the end of the
week.

So the weather was nice when we left from the office, but by the time the guys started knocking the
ball around at 11 a.m., it was quite chilly. New draft pick Graham Zusi saw his first time in
Kansas City, as did trialist Ferenc Beres. Roger Espinoza and Jack Jewsbury were back in town after
National Team duty.

Hillcrest made it out to training today for the first time in 2009. It was a fairly nice day, so
that was a pleasant surprise. The guys started with the usual fitness warm up then a
passing/keep-away drill for the field players and catching drills for the goalies. New goalkeeper
coach John Pascarella was there watching the 'keepers first hand for one of the first times.

Souter celebrates winning the beep test by trying to stay warm.
Adam Cristman does some individual ballwork today.
Training started this morning, with midfielder Kevin Souter and defender Matt Marquess winning
their heats of the infamous "beep test" fitness test. Michael Kraus came in second during
the first heat, while Kurt Morsink was second in the second heat.

We promised training photos, so here they are. Workouts were light, with PK practice at the end. I
won't say the order or who went which direction; you'll just have to find out if it gets that far
tonight. Enjoy pics. The weather was soccer friendly (cool and rainy), but not camera friendly, so
we didn't get too many.

Hillcrest had the chance to make it out to training today for the first time in a while. Saw some
pretty intense back-and-forth during the 11-v-11 portion of the day and some fun stuff afterward.
Herculez Gomez jumped in goal and fielded some penalty kicks from Davy Arnaud, Jack Jewsbury, Eric
Kronberg, Asst Kris Kelderman and Kevin Souter.

Hillcrest was able to get out to practice today and watch a pretty intense session. The guys
started out with small-group passing drills, then progressed to larger full-field movement sessions
before an 11-v-11 scrimmage. The temperature was perfect and led to some good up-and-down play.
I'm looking forward to watching us play Chivas USA and their bevy of former Wizards this weekend.

Just wanted to throw up a few pictures of the group from Kansas School for the Deaf that came out
to the scrimmage yesterday. The little ones were adorable and had a very good time, as our guys
were gracious as always and signed many autographs. Hillcrest himself even spent a few minutes
playing a fun game of keep away with the youngsters, whose mom's signed many a
"thank-you" after it was over.

Marinelli struck the winner for his green side today during a scrimmage.
Went out to training today and saw a good, competitive practice that featured a 7-v-7 small-sided
game tournament. The Green team won the final 2-1 over orange team, with Carlos Marinelli scoring
the winner with a minute or so to go in the game.

Stopped by training today for a little look at the guys before tomorrow's important match against
Chivas USA. The session went well, with the starting group knocking the ball around and working on
crosses. The reserves participated in 7-v-7 matches on a small field. Technical Director Peter
Vermes and Coach Onalfo were involved, with their two teams squaring off in the final.

Read the following article from ESPN Soccernet's Kristian Dyer about Coach Onalfo's successful
battle with cancer when he was 24 years old.
Today, another cancer survivor, Westin Funk came out to practice at CommunityAmerica Ballpark with
his mother and two friends. Westin got some points from midfielder Kerry Zavagnin during practice
and then the rest of the guys came over and signed autographs for him and his friends.

Hello all, practice went very well today. It was a little warmer than it has been lately, so the
guys were happy to be outside and not needing too much clothing to keep warm. They started off with
small-sided games to work on possession and then a full-field game, which ended tied at 0. After
practice we concluded the photo shoot from last week.

Greetings Hillcrest readers, the boys were back at it in Kansas City today, training from noon-1:20
at our beautiful Swope Park Training Center. We snagged a few photos and made a few observations
while there. After practice, the guys stuck around for a quick photo shoot in the new kit. Wow are
they beautiful.

We're off to lunch, but I wanted to first throw up some pictures from training this morning.
Practice consisted mostly of some shape and possession work with 9 v 9 while the forwards worked on
finishing. After that, it opened up for a scrimmage with periodic stops to work on set pieces (see
wall photos below).
