Futbolitinos, the transfer deadline window is now shut! Seedy
agents all became instant millionaires when "under the table" deals were finalized yesterday,
including Coutinho's loan move from Inter Milan to Espanyol
(above).
One thing I have noticed in recent weeks is the lack of real chances we are creating for ourselves.
The thing is, because of this happening, the likes of Danny Sturridge (as he demonstrated
yesterday) have taken a selfish approach to his game and is shooting whenever he gets the ball in
or around the box rather then lift his head up and look for a killer pass or to create a chance for
someone else.
Andy Carroll who has come under intense fire from the Liverpool faithful the past few weeks for
his inconsistent performances, responded to his critics by scoring in Liverpool's 3-0 win over
Wolves yesterday.
The £35 million signing from Newcastle opened the scoring for the Reds, to take his tally for
the club to 7.

Real Madrid 4 Athletic Bilbao 1
Welcome to La Liga Lunes! As you may know, Mourinho's formidable Los
Blancos defeated Bilbao 4-1 last night, despite Llorente's opening goal in the 13th minute.
Unfortunately, the Portuguese was also at the receiving end of jeers from the Madridista
crowd, who were allegedly annoyed that he wasn't able to pin down Barcelona
earlier in the week.
Both Real Madrid and Barcelona were winners yesterday to ensure that their is no let up in the
La Liga title race. However, despite the win, things are not looking too rosy for Madrid Coach Jose
Mourinho.
Madrid fans were heard jeering Mourinho despite his side's 4-1 over Athletic Bilbao.
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has urged the media to stop focusing the spotlight heavily on
John Terry as the Blues skipper returns to QPR next Saturday for the first time since being accused
of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand in October.
The Rangers won the ill-tempered clash 1-0 as Villas-Boas saw two of his players dismissed,
leaving the visitors to fight with nine men for most of the afternoon.
Week 15 saw Benfica maintain their two point lead over Porto as the season hit the midway point.
Benfica earned a convincing 4-1 win over Setubal while Porto stayed pace with a 2-0 win over Rio
Ave. In what amounted to the game of the week, Braga defeated Sporting 2-1 to move into sole spot
of third place in the Portuguese league as Sporting drop to fourth.
Interesting comments from Martin Jol regarding his use of Clint Dempsey (see Hammyend.com for

Essentially he's saying that Dempsey is operating as more of a classic 10, now.
This is interesting. From our unusually lofted positions high in Johnny Haynes, Toby and I spent
a bit of time on Saturday wondering where everyone was supposed to be playing.

Consider this a 'half season review', but with one game added on. After a terrible start,
followed by an excellent run, followed by a topsy turvy Christmas period, I feel we now have a good
idea of how the season is going to go.
When we beat QPR and Chelsea lost at home to Villa, we leapfrogged them into 4th place.
Newcastle striker Demba Ba will not be replaced this is according to coach Alan Pardew. The
Senegalese striker is set to join his national team for the month long Africa Cup Of Nations
tournament that is scheduled to start on the 21st of this month.
Ba has been in scintillating form for the Magpies this season scoring 14 times in the
league.
The 2011 year in now behind us and as we now move forward in 2012, we take a look at ten things
that should happen for all Portuguese fans this year. 1- Cristiano Ronaldo will win the La Liga
Golden Boot 2- Portugal will reach the semi-finals of Euro 2012 3- Porto's Hulk & Benfica's Gaitan
will be sold in the summer 4- Benfica will reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League 5- FC

Liverpool are reportedly contemplating a January move for Celtic midfielder Beram Kayal.
The Israel international has impressed all and sundry since his move to Parkhead from Maccabi Haifa
in the summer of 2010, and has made 55 appearances for the Hoops.
According to the Daily Mail, Kayal is a target for Liverpool as Kenny Dalglish considers bolstering
his midfield during the transfer window.
The draw that Chelsea achieved against Fulham on Monday, puts their chance in challenging for
title becomes difficult again and this situation is also being admitted by the club's manager,
Andre Villas-Boas.
The Portuguese tactician doesn't want to say that everything is already over, since the
competition is still long, but the ex-Porto coach admitted that it's much more wiser for his team
to focus on their results first before looking at the top teams ahead of them.
We haven't done one of these for a while but here are some interesting links.
Jonathan Wilson on Villas-Boas.
"Rome wasn't built in a day," Brian Clough once said. "But then I wasn't on that particular
job." It's a great line, but the truth is that the majority of managers need time.
It seems that even if AVB tells the board that he wants us to meet the minimum fee release clause
in Alvaro Pereira's contract, Porto are determined to hold onto him.
The Porto president, Pinto Da Costa has told Chelsea to simply forget about making any moves for
the player as he won't be sold.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Liverpool are interested in signing Porto's Fernando Reges as a
replacement for the injured Lucas Leiva. Like most transfer rumours, it may just be baseless,
opportunistic 'speculation' (i.e. completely made-up), but Reges looks like just the type of player
Liverpool might need to cover the unfortunate Brazilian.
Another name has been added to Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish's alleged January wish-list, with
the Daily Mail reporting this morning that the Reds are in line to swoop for Porto's Fernando
Reges.
It is thought that Dalglish will be given some considerable funds with which to strengthen his
Anfield roster in the imminent transfer window and, in the wake of Lucas Leiva's season-ending knee
injury, midfield is a key priority.
Liverpool set to move for £17m Fernando Reges
Liverpool are weighing up a move for Porto's defensive midfielder Fernando Reges. Manager Kenny
Dalglish will be given funds to strengthen his squad in January.
