set and while we won't know until next month what the groups are it does present a good time to
discuss each team and how they got there.
(Note: I hope this is a start of many more World Cup posts going into next year.

"Things that start badly end well" said Franz Smuda after his team's loss in the game against
Romania. I hope that our new coach is some kind of prophet because otherwise it's hard to remain
optimistic after the Saturday's game. Poland lost for the fourth time in a row, each time failing
to score even a single goal.

A long time ago I wrote that the name Howard Webb won't make it into this blog anymore. However,
I think that the last year's emotions are already gone and that the occassion is good to draw your
attention to a particular film. "Kill The Referee" is a documentary about the referees flmed during
the Euro 2008.

Unless if Gabon or Bahrain qualify, it looks we'll only have one debutante at the World Cup next
summer.
Slovakia is in for the first time since they split from the Czech Republic. An own goal by Poland's
Seweryn Gancarczyk early in the first half was enough for the Slovaks to break through in snowy
Warsaw.
