Sportsmail strikes again. Though we may have to start giving the masked man/woman/thing a little
more credit on the back of breaking the Willian negotiations last week. This time around, the
Daily Mail's journo in the field, with a little help from the Mirror,
suggests Chelsea are ready to make key moves for both Paul Pogba and Gregory van der Wiel.
And so comes to an end the 2012 Major League Soccer Combine.
Now comes the draft, which is only two days away. Who will the winners be? I don't think there
will be any clear winners as drafts are a gamble to begin with at least as far as I'm
concerned.
Over at ESPN LA Scott French brings us up to speed on UC Irvine midfielder Miguel
Ibarra.
For our second player profile we look to the midfield, a certain trouble spot for New England in
recent years. After catching a little of the College Cup this past weekend, I've got a new midfield
crush. We head out west, to perennial powerhouse UCLA, and take a look at their dynamic midfielder,
Kelyn Rowe, recently named Pac-12 Player of the Year!
With the Super Draft a little over a month away, it's time to start getting familiar with some
of the prospects that will be available for selection. Every few days or so leading up to the draft
we will be providing player profiles to give you some insight into each prospect. These previews
will obviously have a Revolution-centric theme and feel to them, and we'll be looking at players
that we feel will be a proper fit for the organization going forward.

Player Profile: José Enrique
AnfieldIndex Liverpool FC Stats | Liverpool FC Blog | Liverpool FC Forum Liverpool has long had
a problem with the left-back position ever since John Arne Riise left for Roma in 2008. Yes we had
Fabio Aurelio and Emiliano Insua but neither.
Scott Heavey/Getty Images (Bleacher Report) Liverpool were dealt a harsh blow when they failed to
convert 24 shots on goal and a dominating 73 percent possession.
Jamie Carragher was caught off balance and out of position, which resulted in Jonathan Walters
receiving a penalty that he converted.
Matthew Lewis/Getty Images(Bleacher Report) Joe Cole arrived on Merseyside just over a year ago
with high hopes, a big contract and tons of belief that he was going to help lead the Reds return
to the promised land that they have been so long removed from.
However, that did not happen as Cole continued to fall off the wagon and was left to fill mostly a
fringe role last season as the Reds chased fifth place but could not claim it at the death last
year.
Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images (Bleacher Report) Sergio Aquero was all that Manchester City needed
to take away a 3-0 victory from their home match against Wigan Athletic. In only his fourth game in
the English Premier League, the Argentine striker scored his first English Premier League hat
trick.
Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images (Bleacher Report) Last season saw the emergence of what looked like
it had the makings of an incredible partnership. Wayne Rooney had made the best of both Carlos
Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov over the last few seasons, but he is yet to have enjoyed a long term
striking partnership.
Michael Regan/Getty Images(Bleacher Report) There is not another striker in the world that is
hotter than Wayne Rooney at the moment.
Three weeks ago, he scored a hat trick against Arsenal at Old Trafford in United's 8-2 victory. He
followed that performance the next week on international duty, scoring a brace against Bulgaria.
Michael Regan/Getty Images(Bleacher Report) Liverpool new boy Stewart Downing has been quoted
recently by the Daily Mirror as having tipped his new club for a strong top four push as the Reds
aim to return to UEFA Champions League football next season.
The £20 million wide man has so far enjoyed a great start with the club as they sit in third place
on seven points after the first month of action in the Barclays Premier League.
Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images(Bleacher Report) Despite Fernando Torres' unfortunate lack of goals
since he put on a Blue kit, he was once perhaps the most feared front man in all of the EPL when he
was at his peak for Liverpool.
He came in on a massive transfer and delivered some of the best attacking play that had been seen
on Merseyside in years, and eventually became the fastest Red to ever make it to 50 goals.
Clive Brunskill/Getty Images(Bleacher Report) The Reds have enjoyed one of the best opening months
to a season in years. Liverpool sit joint third in the league with seven points and a plus four
goal differential keeping them above Chelsea.
Luis Suarez, Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson and Martin Skrtel have all gotten off the mark in the
League while Suarez, Maxi Rodriguez and Andy Carroll all scored as the Reds advanced to the next
round of the Carling Cup.
Deadline day' has arrived, and it doesn't especially matter that Liverpool seems to have largely
wrapped up their summer dealings. Because deadline day has arrived. Which means that if you haven't
stocked up on bottled water and tins of beans already, you're pretty much out of luck for when the
insanity kicks off in a couple of hours and the country grinds to a halt, staring rapt, fixated on
Sky Sports' scrolling ticker.

Brunskill/Getty Images) (Bleacher Report)Jordan Henderson Joined the Liverpool Reds as their first
major signing of the summer.
Matthew Lewis/Getty Images(Bleacher Report)Joe Cole's plight at Liverpool is a rather sticky
situation. He has had an up and down career that has truthfully been more down than good, and since
he joined the Reds, it has been more of the same story.
His playing days started out at West Ham United in 1998, when he made his first appearances in
league fixtures.
It is no secret that we are in the market for an established left back. Kenny tried out a whole
bunch of lads in the position in the latter half of the 10/11 season, with Paul Konchesky, Fabio
Aurelio, Jack Robinson, Danny Wilson and Glen Johnson all being tested out.
Player Profile: Stewart Downing
AnfieldIndex Liverpool FC Stats | Liverpool FC Blog | Liverpool FC Forum On Friday 15 th of July
2011 it was announced that Stewart Downing had completed his long awaited move to Liverpool
Football Club. It has to be said that this signing has been somewhat underwhelming for most
Liverpool fans, especially with the suggested price tag of £20 million.
We don't believe we've put up this WNT Player Profile, so here are the USA's back-up goalkeepers
Jill Loyden and Nicole Barnhart, who as you will see, like to have a lot of fun, whether it's
getting drilled by soccer balls during training or doing crosswords, and you'll find out why
forward Alex Morgan will not be the team's emergency goalkeeper.
Carli Lloyd and Hope Solo team up for this latest WNT Player Profile, where you get a 2-3 minute
look into the players' personalities, hopefully helping you get to know them just a little bit
better. These are also available on the players' bio pages, just fyi.
Here is another in our series of U.S. WNT Player Profiles. For this one, we triple up defenders
with Amy LePeilbet, Becky Sauerbrunn and Ali Krieger. It's also our only WNT Player Profile that
has anyone setting up a defensive wall or anyone speaking German. So three cheers for the defense
as you get to know Amy, Becky and Ali just a little bit better.
A few weeks ago, the Cuban national team flew up to Charlotte N.C. for a CONCACAF Gold Cup match
against Costa Rica, as is usually the case when their team flies to some other country, a number of
Cuban players defected to the United States. One of the players was 27 year old Yosniel Mesa, who
is currently training with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers while he seeks his working permit.
Daniel returns for another view of the Valencia CF world. Hopefully the Offside gives him an
account soon so he can post on his own! Daniel, take it away!
The third worst defence in the league. I'm drooling.
Is this the game to put us back on course for third spot? I believe so. Sociedad pulled of a
magnificent smash-and-grab last week, and in doing so condemned Barca to just a second defeat this
season, and produced, along with Zaragoza, the most unlikely result of creating the first matchday
since December 2008 when both Real and Barca succumbed to defeat.
The Boston Globe has reported New England's Captain, Shalrie Joseph, has been dismissed from the
squad's Orlando training camp along with teammate Kevin Alston. Both players featured in Friday's
2-0 win over the University of Central Florida, but have not appeared in training for the past two
days.
As the preseason continues on, New England has begun working toward a finalized, 30-man roster.
Last week, the club released an initial preseason roster of 26 players. This roster includes the
five SuperDraft picks, two of the three Supplemental Draft picks (first pick Hunter Christiansen is
finishing his studies at Tulsa) and several non-contract preseason invitees.
The 2010 season did not bring many good things for the New England Revolution. With the
combination of the squad's dismal 6th place finish in the Eastern Conference (and a horrendous away
record), Shalrie Joseph's off field troubles, and a patch-work starting eleven of too many unproven
players, fans are quite understandably looking to put the blinders on and focus on the upcoming
season, especially with the 2011 SuperDraft having just passed and the Marco Materazzi rumor mill
still churning.
