Hello and welcome to your favorite new television program EMEYAE (Extreme Makeover English Youth
Academy Edition)! We are so excited to see you! Basically, after the new EPPP guidelines were
passed, a lot of people got angry. Local communities felt threatened that the free movement of
individual youth labor would leave them devastated.
What follows is an initial list of 25 things obstructing the US from becoming a soccer
powerhouse.
The "what's wrong" topic is always around and maintains a certain level of attention. Then, when
our national teams flounder, the topic spikes and dominates the discussion.
And of course everyone and their mom has an opinion.
The IMSoccer News staff was well-represented in Kansas City last Tuesday for the Gold Cup Group
C doubleheader featuring matches between Panama-Canada and the USA- Guadeloupe. Superfan Tim
Hayes, photographer Jeremy Olson and myself were all in attendance at the sold-out, brand-new
LIVESTRONG Sporting Park and it was a fantastic couple of days in KC.
Once the trophies have been lifted in emphatic triumph then dropped by players unaccustomed
to using their hands, the victors' confetti is swept aside along with the memories of the previous
season to open an extended summer of whispers. While the Home Nations do have the odd European
qualifier or international friendly over the summer and clubs partake in pre-season matches after
the players enjoy a few weeks on holiday, most of this summer's action will be taking place out of
the public eye as club managers haggle with player agents over transfer fees, battle creditors for
unpaid services from last year, and contradict the media which are rumouring on what they are doing
in the absence of actual football.
In the dog eat dog world of sports that surrounds us all, it is rare to see instances of
"gentlemanly conduct" as our fathers used to call it. It would be wrong of me to write that all
athletes have lost the true spirit of competition, but as a fan, it appears that money drives
almost everything.
