It's early May, which in footballing terms generally means one thing: it's business time. And AFR Voice is punching in for this week's audio shift with plenty to talk about. Whether it be a 33-man match in Norway, horror challenges on reporters in Denmark, or the hottest thing out of the Madrid branch of IKEA since someone burnt the meatballs, we've got it covered.
Man United's signing of Robin Van Persie looks set to be one of the most crucial that the
Premier League has ever seen occurring just as the powers of England's most renowned side had
looked to be on the wane.
Man United seemed to be floundering as their nearest rivals spent big and snapped up the latest
star names.
Analysing Arteta: Dissecting the Spanish maestro's game. By Jules
As this week is a Champions League week, a competition neither we or any other English club are still in, we were able to enjoy the football on show without being burdened by the stresses and strains of going toe to toe for ninety minutes against the continent's finest.
Arsenal were thought to be on the verge of signing a big, strong, tough tackling defensive midfielder in the summer, with Yann M'Vila and Etienne Capoue two of the favourites. The window opened and closed and Arsenal, despite having money to spend did not sign an enforcer.
Arsene Wenger had said that he would only buy a player who would improve the squad, so does that mean he thought there were no defensive midfielders good enough?
Arsenal have to cope without Wilshere by BA You didn't really think that it was going to be a blue
sky summer for the Gunners did you? The announcement of the signing of Lukas Podolski before last
season was over seemed like a dream. The recent acquisition of Arsene Wenger's top transfer target,
Olivier Giroud, [.

Andrea pours himself a cheeky little glass of Mad Dog 20/20
When you think about it, it makes perfect sense that a creature as cultured, sophisticated and precision-bearded as Andrea Pirlo dabbles in fine wine, though we weren't aware that the Juventus string-puller actually owns or, more specifically, his family owns a vineyard in the hills aroundBrescia in northern Italy.
Vucinic-Matri, Fiorentina annichilita.

This Saturday, AS Roma will host Serie A league leaders Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico. Roma recently fired manager Zdenek Zeman who had his team producing attack-minded football, highlighted by a 4-2 win over rivals AC Milan.
The holding midfielder, or defensive midfielder, or number 6 as we can also call it, is a thankless task that often gets overlooked in today's football of marauding fullbacks, twinkle-toed playmakers and dead-eye strikers. However what is most underappreciated about the number6 (as we will refer to it from henceforth) are its complexities that most fail to recognize.

The Serie A has always been considered the gold standard for tactics, midfield play, and team
defending. Those were all on display as Italy raced on to advance to the Euro 2012 Final, with the
vision of Pirlo and grit of DeRossi on display.
That only highlights the significance of Michael Bradley joining DeRossi at Roma, and is a
watershed moment for US Soccer.
With Euro 2012 over, we now have just a few weeks to sort out the latest transfer sagas and prepare
ourselves for the new Premier League season. We can't wait. In the meantime, UEFA announced it's
team of the tournament, ... Continue reading →
As Fernando Torres drifted into the dark behind the Italian defence, the ball sliding towards
his feet, a sense of responsibility must have danced upon his thoughts. For near to three years
now, the Spaniard has taken it upon himself to shatter any perception that he was once an
accomplished striker – almost certainly, at one point, the best on the planet.

After a tremendously fun twelve days of Euro2012 group stage matches, we found the knockout
phase over the past week a bit of a letdown. Well, until the 2nd semifinal match on Thursday.
(This was originally going to be a wrapup of the quarters and semis, but got long enough with
just the quarters.

It had all been going rather swimmingly for Jogi Loew's gifted German side, with a much
predicted final clash against Spain in the offing. However, a stunning first-half display from
Mario Balotelli for Italy tore Germany's hopes of glory apart as Cesare Prandelli's side outplayed
a turgid looking German team.
Hey, hey, I'm on time for the whole match today and I'm ready to see some goals in regulation!
Referee: Stephane Lannoy (France)
Italy,: Buffon, Balzaretti, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Pirlo, Marchisio, Montolivo, De Rossi,
Balotelli, Cassano. Subs: Sirigu, Ogbonna, Thiago Motta, Abate, Di Natale, Giaccherini, Borini,
Giovinco, Diamanti, Nocerino, De Sanctis.
So here we are again, another Euro 2012 match with this one pivotal in deciding the fate of the
trophy the second Semi-Final match, with Germany facing Italy. The winner of this match will of
course be heading through to a final against Spain, who overcome a valiant Portugal side last night
eventually winning on penalties.
Bangor City winger Les Davies is on a 32-strong list of players vying to be named as Uefa's best
player in Europe. The 27-year-old is one of the most unlikely names on the list. He goes
head-to-head with the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. His unexpected inclusion is
believed to be a quirk [.
Get around. Most of you don't know about the short-lived but excellent soccer blog Footsmoke. Like Pinpoint me, Pirlo, the site offered keen observations, uncanny wit, and some amusing pop culture references. Like Pinpoint me, Pirlo, both sites ended too early. Posts stopped appearing. Google Readers felt empty.
These look like they might've been around a little while (Pirlo still playing for Milan and sans Jesus beard, for example), but these prints by Daniel Nyari are absolutely fantastic. Because you just know he's captured exactly how Carlos Valderrama's hair looks on a molecular level. And it all works, because football's just about geometry, right?
If there's one man Juventus can consistently rely on to thump in quality goals, it's none other than the Supreme Master, Andrea Pirlo himself. Seriously, this man can do no wrong you could set up a gelato shop tomorrow, name it Pirlo Paradise and it'll be bigger than the entire Beckham brand,vi promettiamo!
Udinese's Brazilian midfielder Maicousel try's to do a Pirlo like penalty but is made to look
very foolish as the Braga keeper makes an easy save, the miss cost the Italian club a place in the
next round of the Champions League and incidently it wasn't the only bloopers moment in the tie
with Pablo Armero also having his moment.
"To Club Escobar! Tell 'em Terry sent ya!" THE BUZZ:
Will the choice to play a B squad destroy any chance of TFC fight? At this point in TFC's season
does it really matter? Will fans feel let down if TFC loses to Santos Laguna anyways?Do you guys
know any good clubs in Houston for later?
What a fabulous night of soccer at BBVA Compass Stadium. A 4-0 thumping of a 10-man D.C. United,
Boniek Garcia scored his first goal, Will "Dancing Bear" Bruin got back on the score sheet and
Brian Ching scored a Pirlo-esque penalty. No doubt everyone in attendance had a great time.
As for those us forced to take in the match on television, it was slightly less enjoyable.
