It seems like it's almost a given that Harry Redknapp is on his way out of Tottenham – whether
it be immediately or the end of the season – but what really is there for him in the England
job?
Looking at the history of the job it's notorious for tainting the careers of what were otherwise
top managers.
After sensationally being cleared of tax evasion charges and the subsequent dismissal of Fabio
Capello as England coach by the FA all in one day, Tottenham coach Harry Redknapp is now being
considered as the prime choice to replace the Italian. In fact, Tottenham are said to be bracing
themselves for an approach by the FA.
Leo Messi's place at the pinnacle of world football was confirmed by his third consecutive Ballon
d'Or, but he didn't do it alone. To celebrate his win, Leo has thanked everyone who has supported
him in his career, from his ...

We're playing 'catch up' today after a bout of electro-gremlins rendered us down and out at the
weekend so, for the two of you that haven't seen it already and for the many that probably won't
mind seeing it again, here's Macclesfield Town midfielder Arnaud Mendy scoring the goal of his
career against Bolton on Saturday.
On Sunday night Toby and I took in Sutton United v Notts County in the FA Cup second round
proper (a trip to Doncaster was on offer to the winners).
No giant killing here. County eventually sauntered to a routine victory, but there were alarms
along the way, notably when Sutton were awarded then missed a penalty on the verge of half-time
(shooooot!
Two weeks without league football and the opening days of the season a quickly fading memory has
put many in the mood to pick at what has for Liverpool gone from a year of hope to one that seems
to offer more of the same. A season that after an expectant summer only seems to offer more missed
chances.
A fantastic video/documentary on the very first MLS game at Jeld-Wen Field.
Relive one of the pinnacle moments in Timbers history.
Sonny Silooy was a terrific footballer who climbed to the pinnacle of world
soccer with AFC Ajax and the Dutch National Team (that's him with Edgar Davids in the 1996 UEFA
Champions League Final). He also broke my finger on Tuesday. Well maybe, as the fallout from this
most recent debacle has yet to be determined.
Regime change No, not another dictator to replace the toppled Muammar Gaddafi. Rather former
Italian World Cup winner Claudio Gentile is set to take over the reigns of the Libyan national
football team. An uncompromising centre-back who played more than 400 matches for Juventus, Gentile
won almost every major trophy in the game.
Simon Bird's Premier League previews and predictions (Week 9)
Manchester United v Manchester City (Sunday, 1.30pm) Is this now the Premier League's biggest
game? In past years Manchester United clashing with Chelsea was the one. Further back in was United
and Arsenal.
This week has seen the return of the Champions League, the pinnacle of European football and the
heights to which all spectators aspire. What's the polar opposite of Champions League football
being sprayed about a pitch?
That's right it's Robbie Savage dancing near the center circle at halftime of a Championship
match, in what can only be described as a leftover prop from Saturday Night Fever.
No, we won't be discussing fire trucks, school buses or South African aliens today. It's literally
the pinnacle of our 4-3-3, the striker. It's also the easiest top choice this side of Tim Howard in
our little exercise. This is the most straightforward job description on the field, really.
Naturally, our #9 wants to stay in the middle of the field, make the center backs work, drop back

Leighton Baines has revealed that Liverpool hatched a plan to snatch him away from Everton during
the summer transfer window.
The England full back, linked with Manchester City among others, has quickly turned into one of the
Toffees' star turns with his dazzling crosses and runs from the left-back position.

I may take a few days to develop a theory that hit me tonight. The problem with TFC is the CNE. I
am of baby boomer vintage and can remember when the CNE was the pinnacle of a Toronto summer. It
was not just an amusement park, it was a showcase for the latest and the greatest The world has
changed and we know that the old CNE has been left behind by Disney this and Universal Studios
that.

currently hold in our midst that have been linked with clubs all over the continent, he was
supposed to be the one that we could bank on to stay.
After the sensational first deal being confirmed today with Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing will
become the second player to make the move to Merseyside, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Downing has long been a target for Kenny Dalglish, with the Liverpool manager deciding between the
Aston Villa star and teammate Ashley Young.
I grew up as a football loving boy in a sports mad family in England. I dreamt of playing for
England in most of the major sports but it was always the dream of playing football for England
that I would return to. This has been the staple image of young football fans in England and around
the world for decades but there is a feeling that I can't escape that things are changing
dramatically.

In the first TotalArsenal post for ‘ArsenalArsenal', I focussed on the position of our manager
and came to the conclusion we should let him complete his mission to turn us once again into the
top team we all crave for. In the second TotalArsenal post, I focussed on the positives within our,
young and quickly developing squad and why there is plenty to be upbeat about for next season.

If in 1997, when a young Michael Owen was breaking on to the scene with our hated rivals
Liverpool, you'd never have believed someone if they told you we'd be overtaking their record 18
titles in a few years. But you'd have sent them off to the doctors if they told you Owen would be
scoring for us on the last day of that 19th title winning season!

Paisley Gates to vote on the Performance of the Season, and Anfield Asylum to vote on the Goal of
the Season.
Andrew Benbow remembers when the FA Cup was really important. And asks what we can do to
turn the clock back...
'What would you prefer to win the Cup or the League?'
Hard to see that being a debate in the playgrounds of today as it was when I was young. And it
was a genuine debate.
Today starts College Basketball's March Madness. Sixty-eight teams due battle over the next few
weeks in a tournament that makes the World Cup seem puny in terms of scale, (but not pageantry or
importance or anything else, mind you). Today, there are 16 games going on. The same amount will be
played tomorrow.
Ducky's Note: Yes, it's me, with a note again. But hey, if it's to introduce another

Utkarsh is our latest writer from the Red part of Merseyside, and he promises to
never let us walk alone for the Liverpool section of this blog anymore.
With the euphoria starting to die down following our last sixteen triumph, it's time to take
another break before our next league fixture, at home to West Ham next Saturday.
The fixture gap gives us time to reflect and enjoy the success, but just where does that rank
amongst our best European games?
Ricki Herbert has reached the top of the soccer coaching ladder after a 20-year climb.
Herbert this week learned he had been appointed to the panel of instructors and lecturers for
the sport's world governing body's Courses.
The Fifa appointment, which took effect on January 1 this year, means Herbert joins 29 other
soccer coaches on the panel.
Frank Lampard reckons the Champions League should be Chelsea's number one aspiration for this
season. The England midfielder knows Chelsea are seemingly out of the Premier League title race
after some poor form that has seen them drop to fifth and sit 12 points behind leaders Manchester
United. Anyone looking to bet on Champions League [.
Sad day today in football. Well for me. Ronaldo, the healthy one, retired from the soccer today
after an outstanding career that saw him reach the pinnacle of the sport only to fall so quickly.
I don't know what it is about Brazilian players but they seem to just disappear after they hit the
top.
Name: Eddie McGoldrick In his 1990s prime for: Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Manchester City Lowdown:
Kettering Town, Nuneaton Borough, Northampton Town, Crystal Palace, Arsenal. You just don't get
career progression like that these days. But that's the path Republic of Ireland international
Eddie McGoldrick took to the disappointing pinnacle of his career at Arsenal.
I don't hate football anymore. That's a big step for me; I used to actively loathe the game, and
would be vocal about that whenever possible. In my mind, a man could have only been a fan of one
football, and I was an adamant supporter of what was clearly the farer game. Now, of course, things
are slightly different, as while it would take a strong effort to care any less about football, my
feelings have shifted more towards a content indifference.
MANCHESTER, England Veteran Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has confirmed will
retire from football at the end of the season. The 40-year-old former Holland international moved
to Old Trafford from Fulham in 2005 and helped the Red Devils to three Premier League titles and
Champions League glory in 2008.

Herculez Gomez for Pachuca...
I had the hardest time coming up with angle for our in-depth conversation with Herculez Gomez
below and then I chuckled. In the interview, Herculez and I "debate" what player his game is most
like. I suggesting Salomon Kalou and that's not really a great one. He suggesting.
