So another transfer window comes to a close. This unlike many others was surprisingly quiet, mainly due to clubs now having to take into account UEFA's Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. With just two weeks of the January transfer window left, Tottenham Hotspur yesterday made their first signing. Iago Falque's loan from Juventus was made permanent for a fee rumoured to be around £1.5m. The young Spaniard was immediately sent out on loan to Championship club Southampton.

Spurs enjoyed a comfortable enough win over Cheltenham in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday and manager Harry Redknapp was quick to praise many members of the side. While Aaron Lennon and Michael Dawson returned from injury, Niko Kranjcar impressed in a rare start and Jake Livermore also caught the boss's eye as he filled in at right back.

With no fresh injury concerns ahead of tomorrow's game against Swansea is it simply a case of ‘as you were'? Will Harry stick to the side that played Norwich and will he let Bale and VDV enjoy the roving roles that proved so telling on the night?

Unless there are any late withdrawals it does seem very likely that no changes are required but then again there are very few options.

Anyway, the point is that the epithet has been fairly redundant for as far back as I can remember, as we would generally fail to win in the first place, and then react to defeat with another defeat, or a two-goal lead thrown away late on, or whatever.

Injuries and suspension at the centre of defence could force Harry Redknapp to bring back Ledley King for Sunday's game against Martin O'Neill's side. Harry reports that Ledley is struggling but we've been in this position before where the club captain makes an unexpected return to the line up.

With Sunderland and Chelski coming up in the League over the next week, and the cyanide-laced chalice of Europa qualification limited to mathematics equations of the absurd, ‘Arry would be forgiven for just leaving Clive Allen and Tim Sherwood to take care of the kids tonight, or maybe fielding Allen and Sherwood themselves.

Harry's pre-match comments have pretty much given us the starting line up for tonight but there are still some gaps to fill in,

"I was doing a little bit of work with them this morning and there's seven internationals in there," said Harry.

"Defoe is here, Gio Dos Santos, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Kaboul, Pienaar, Niko, Sandro, they will all play.

Harry Redknapp has a few injury concerns ahead of Sunday's game with Stoke but the extra day could give Ledley King, Jermain Defoe and Gareth Bale the time they need to get fit.

There is cover in place for King and JD but Harry will certainly be reluctant to take to the field without Bale, who is back to his best and scored both goals here in our 2-1 win last season.

One touch too many, a phrase that sums up Spurs' performance last night. A radically altered team seldom captured the flowing passing style that's been a feature of our season and we couldn't score against 10 men despite having all the possession and territory in the second half.

Any hopes or expectations of progression to the knockout stages of the Europa League were all but extinguished last night, with Spurs never recovering from perhaps their sloppiest start to a game since the 4-0 reverse at Fulham in the FA Cup back in January.

There were rumours before kick off that Alex McLeish intended to field Alan Hutton as a right midfielder and Carlos Cuellar behind him at right back to deal with the threat of Gareth Bale and that's what he did.

The fans on the Fulham message boards are generally not confident about this one. Both teams had a mid week Europa game, Fulham won, and Spurs lost, but Fulham played their full team, whilst ours stayed home in the warm. They think that this, plus the fact that Modric and Parker are dominating teams at the moment will see Fulham defeated.

Tonights game at Central Stadium was always going to be tough for Spurs, no matter which team had been picked. Rubin Kazan have some experienced heads from Russian League and European football and they showed it with a commanding performance against a Spurs team that had a mix of youth and experience.

Jermain Defoe put last week's illness behind him against Shamrock Rovers and showed that he is ready to face Arsenal this Sunday.

That would suggest that Harry might be looking to renew JD's lethal partnership with Emmanuel Adebayor, but that would mean leaving out one midfield player from last week's win over Wigan and it's not easy to see who would miss out.

The referee will be the focal point, so we'll start with the controversy. Yes, Rodwell didn't deserve a red. Yes, Liverpool deserved their win regardless.
In fact, Liverpool should have taken an earlier lead, especially since Kuyt is usually automatic for the people from the spot, and the sending off actually helped Everton until the players inevitably tired.

As we saw on Saturday, Harry's transfer dealings have made first team selection just that little bit easier and after several departures from the Lane at the end of August, the temptation to slot in Jenas or Crouch has now been removed.

Injuries also played their part in the final line up against Wolves with Sandro, VDV, Dawson and Pienaar ruled out while the likes of Bassong, Corluka and Pavlyuchenko were left out for other reasons.

Having brought Harry Kane, Tom Carroll and Andros Townsend into the 18 man squad for tonight's return leg against Hearts, the exact line up is harder than most to predict.

What we do know is that Huddlestone and Modric are doubtful while King, Sandro, Pienaar, Rose, Gallas and Palacios are definitely out.

And so, finally, off we go, in the rather unorthodox settings of ITV4 and Edinburgh. It is a truth universally acknowledged that any Scottish team whose name does not rhyme with either "Beltic" or "Changers" is there for the taking, so first game of the season or not, this lot must be destroyed. ‘Arry has understandably enough made noises about fielding kids and reserves in the Europa League, but while none of us want injuries ahead of the United trip on Mon, it would nevertheless make sense to field a full-strength side tonight.

I've just about had it with this one. Despite Tottenham imperio Daniel Levy's claims that Modric will be going, and I quote, "nowhere" this summer, the rumor mill continues to produce stories about his exile from White Harte Lane.

It's been a funny old week in Planet Tottenham. After the Modric mess of last weekend, it's all gone slightly quiet on that particular front. After the startling admission from Moddle that he wanted to jump ship and climb aboard the Villas Boas revolution a Stamford Bridge and Daniel Levy's frank rebuttal of those plans, we were all expecting further fireworks.

The one area where Spurs don't look to need any strengthening is in midfield and although there is potential for a Charlie Adam or Scott Parker to come in as cover, it's hard to see how they would justify a place above Sandro or Hudd.

The priority for Harry Redknapp this summer will be to hold on to Sandro, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale as the rumours increase.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish chose not to publicly criticize referee Howard Webb after his side's 2-0 defeat to Tottenham at Anfield but claimed officials "get away scot-free'' by not having to explain their decisions.
The Reds trailed 1-0 when Webb awarded a soft penalty for a foul by John Flanagan on Steve Pienaar, which appeared to take place outside of the area.

It's been confirmed that William Gallas and Gareth Bale will miss tomorrow's trip to Wigan and both will struggle for the trip to the Bernabeu on Tuesday night.
