After the international break, La Liga resumes this weekend with a big match between league
leaders Real Madrid and third-place Valencia at the Estadio Mestalla.
Coming off guiding Portugal to Euro 2012, Cristiano Ronaldo will look to pick up where he left
off at league level, after smashing a hat-trick in Real's 7-1 belting of Osasuna on November 6.

The 2011 Spanish League season has ended and on this week's main report we take a look back at
some of the highs and lows of La Liga. There is a transcript below, while explanations of key
vocabulary (in bold) can be found at the foot of the post, while other key phrases
(in blue) also have meanings explained.
MADRID — Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo broke the La Liga goal-scoring record with his 39th
and 40th league goals of the season as Real Madrid hammered relegated Almeria 8-1 at the Santiago
Bernabeu on Saturday. Ronaldo poked home from close range on four minutes for his record-breaking
goal to overtake the previous best of 38 [.

38 or 39, does it really matter? No! But to the Madristas or fanatical MARCA
journalists it certainly does; that debate can take place elsewhere. A player who has scored 52
goals in 53 season appearances is sensational and that's a word which can describe
Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo seems to be a liberated man after the series of El Clasicos showcased
Leo Messi's versatility as a goalscorer. But Ronaldo's direct and muscular approach is enough to
browbeat lesser opposition. Today it was Getafe and he was on target with a hat trick. Nothing
elaborate or spectacular.
REAL MADRID forward CRISTIANO RONALDO is currently leading the SPANISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE Top Goal
scorer Award for season 2010-2011 ("El Pichichi") & the "European Golden Boot (Shoe) Award" for the
continents Top scorer. This is provision as the season hasn't finished as yet & it is very close in
the Top spots between Ronaldo, Messi (FC Barcelona) & Di Natale (Udinese).
In the week leading up to the D. C. United home opener, I asked our members: "what is the one thing
they were looking for from D.C. United this year? Whether it was an improvement, setting a goal, a
question answered, whatever... But they had to just name one thing, here is what they had to
say...
Some kept it simple:
Shawn: "Goals.

It's a struggle to talk about the 2010/11 La Liga without referring to Barcelona or Real Madrid
who are dominating the league by a clear mile. It's even harder not to discuss the master tactics
of coaching wizards Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, now imagine how painful it is excluding
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo from that conversation?
