A combination of international soccer, U.S. Soccer, MLS and NBA stars will be out in New York
City tonight to take part in Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash's annual charity game.
The Steve Nash Showdown at Sarah D. Roosevelt Park in New York City (at the corner of Chrystie
St.
Steve Nash rarely talks about leaving the Phoenix Suns. Unlike many NBA superstars, he hasn't
demanding a trade even though his team is currently out of the playoff pictures. However, when
talking on the Dan Patrick Show recently, Steve Nash actually discussed the possibility of joining
the Miami Heat.
The defending NBA champions are heating up. On Monday night, they went out on the road and
destroyed the Phoenix Suns. However, the Suns did have an excuse: they were without future Hall of
Famer Steve Nash.
The Mavs led 96-70 heading into the fourth quarter before cruising to a 122-99 victory.
Lebron made it chic. Will Vick follow in his footsteps?
Since Lebron's deal to become part owner of Liverpool FC, any pro athlete must be wondering what's
the deal with owning a Soccer club. African-American U.
It's that time of year again. The time when the giraffes from the NBA do battle against the best
soccer players Vancouver Whitecaps co-owner Steve Nash --which is how he will be referred to from
now on-- can muster in a park below Houston St. in NYC. The Showdown in Chinatown is tomorrow and
as per usual I'm gonna be all up in it like Bennett.
Marcin Gortat suffered a broken nose against the New Orleans Hornets this weekend in a freak
accident on the court. As you can see in the Marcin Gortat video below, the Polish center for the
Phoenix Suns ran into the back of Steve Nash's head. After running into Nash, he fell to the ground
and had blood pouring all over the ground.
Tonight, Philadelphia Union fans can meet their favorite players as the team hosts a rescheduled
version of the Meet the Players event. It will take place at PPL Park's Stadium Club between 7-9
PM. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, because once a certain capacity of people is filled, no
further fans will be allowed entry.
The Phoenix Suns put up a good fight last year in the Western Conference Finals. On Sunday
night, the Suns proved they can still hang with the Lakers. In fact, the Suns handed the Lakers
their second straight defeat after L.A. won their first eight games of the season. The win for
Phoenix improved their record to 5-4.
by Nick Lichtenberg, writing from a couch in New York City (okay, Brooklyn) 1) Â Dimitar Berbatov reminds me of Steve Nash.
Nobody would mistake Dimitar Berbatov for an inspirational league MVP. Â But a few years ago,
Phoenix Suns' point guard (and Tottenham supporter) Steve Nash was still in search of his first NBA
title.
Gregg Popovich may be the best coach in American professional sports today.
What Popovich has done goes far beyond guiding his San Antonio Spurs to the best record in the
National Basketball Association this season. He has created a template for NBA success. His
influence extends so far that his presence is likely to be felt in the NBA Finals even if the Spurs
don't make it.
Who says Kobe Bryant is old? He sure doesn't look old right now. The superstar guard for the Los
Angeles Lakers dropped 40 points on the Utah Jazz tonight 24 hours after torching the Phoenix Suns
for 48 points. With Kobe on fire, the Lakers have won four straight games and once again look like
a legit contender in the Western Conference.
Kobe Bryant suffered a sprained wrist in the first preseason game between the Los Angeles Lakers
and the Los Angeles Clippers. The injury could keep Kobe Bryant out of the Lakers second and final
preseason contest.
However, the good news for the Lakers and Kobe Bryant is that he should be ready to go once the
regular season begins on Christmas Day.
Each year, Forbes comes out with a report that lists the most valuable teams in the NBA. The
2011 version of the list has one big change. Despite winning back-to-back championships, the Los
Angeles Lakers are no longer the NBA's most valuable team. Instead, that honor belongs to the New
York Knicks, who saw their franchise's value jump a whopping 12% in the last year.
The 2010-11 NBA schedule was released on Tuesday. Although the season is a couple months away,
the release of the schedules has basketball junkies anticipating a number of interesting matchups.
LeBron James in South Beach? The Lakers going for the three-peat? Yeah, it's going to be an
exciting year.
Grant Hill is the oldest player in the NBA at age 39. Unfortunately for him, it sounds like his
age has caught up to him after reports surfaced that the Phoenix Suns small forward needs knee
surgery due to a meniscus tear. At the very least, Hill will be out a few weeks.
It's possible that Hill could return in the middle of April.
The Orlando Magic were sitting at 16-9 but the brass didn't want to just stand pat. On Saturday,
they blew the team up with two deals.
The Magic sent Rashard Lewis to Washington for Gilbert Arenas, and then agreed to trade Vince
Carter, Mickael Pietrus, Marcin Gortat, a pick and cash to Phoenix for Hedo Turkoglu, Jason
Richardson and Earl Clark.
Phoenix Suns forward Hedo Turkoglu scored 20 points and Sinan Guler chipped in 17 as Turkey came
away with a 95-77 win over France on Sunday at the FIBA World Championship. A crowd of 15,500 fans
(including 22 members of the Turkish soccer team) cheered on the home team to victory in the round
of 16 game.
The latest NBA collective bargaining agreement will include an amnesty provision that will allow
each team to waive a player and erase the contract from their salary cap. Who are the best NBA
amnesty candidates? Here is our look at the top ten.
1. Rashard Lewis, Washington Wizards
Although massively overpaid, Rashard Lewis can still play.
Rick Carlisle, the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, fainted at practice on Friday. Although
he was carried off in a stretcher, 50-year-old coach says that he's fine. Carlisle reports being
lightheaded before fainting but everything checking out once he got to the hospital. He'll take the
weekend off a precautionary measure.
Now that we know the order of the 2011 NBA Draft, it's time to start the predictions. While this
draft is considered weak, especially in the lottery, there are some teams that should really be
able to help themselves most notably the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have the first and fourth picks
in the draft!
A couple years ago, Hedo Turkoglu was regarded as one of the best multi-dimensional wing players
in the NBA. However, since he signed a big contract with the Toronto Raptors, his play has been in
a steep decline. Recently, he was traded back to the Orlando Magic the team that saw him have the
most success.
Last summer, Hedo Turkoglu signed a five-year, $53 million deal with the Toronto Raptors. After
a tumultuous season in Toronto, the Raptors decided to ship the forward to the Phoenix Suns. Now in
Phoenix, Hedo Turkoglu is blasting Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo.
The new-look New York Knicks are built around Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire and Chauncey
Billups. However, to become a good team, they need role players to step up and contribute. On
Thursday, Toney Douglas did just that to put it mildly. New York's backup guard buried nine
three-pointers on his way to a game-high 29 points as the Knicks demolished the Grizzlies,
120-99.
Is Amare Stoudemire Jewish? That's the question many of his Twitter followers have been asking
in recent weeks. I haven't been able to find any confirmation that Stoudemire is indeed Jewish, but
there certainly are some clues.
Two weeks ago, Stoudemire said this on Twitter:
For whatever is born of (Yah) GOD overcomes the world.
The Phoenix Suns are a mess right now. General manager Steve Kerr left to team for a television
gig allegedly because owner Robert Sarver was being cheap. Amare Stoudemire, arguably the best
player on the team, left Phoenix to sign with the Knicks because the Suns didn't offer him a max
contract. To top it off, Sarver is now looking to hire Lon Babby to run the Suns.
Amare Stoudemire has never been known as the sharpest tool in the shed, however he authored some
quotes recently that make even less sense than usual. The free agent star power forward met with
the New York Knicks over the weekend and could end up signing a $100 million deal in the Big Apple.
The head-scratching comment was regarding who else Stoudemire could help bring to New York.
After losing their first two games of the season, the Phoenix Suns have brought in help in the
form of former All-Star Michael Redd. The Suns gave Redd a one year contract. In his 11-year
career, all spent with the Milwaukee Bucks, Redd has averaged 20 points and 4.1 rebounds.
Kevin Garnett does some weird things on the basketball court sometimes. He has a habit of trying
to fight players half his size. Against the Phoenix Suns on Friday night, Kevin Garnett almost
started a brawl by poking Channing Frye in the penis. The poke came as Channing Frye was attempting
to shoot the ball.
Richard Jefferson shocked the basketball world when he opted out of his contract that would have
paid him more than $15 million next season. On Wednesday, Jefferson decided to re-sign with the San
Antonio Spurs and received a four-year, $38.8 million contract.

When Jefferson initially opted out, everyone thought he was crazy.
