Bolton managed well in their match against Chelsea, until the dying minutes of the first half but
Jlloyd Samuels challenge earned him a red card and a penalty for Chelsea and Lampard made no
mistake converting it before the break. The Blues dominance continued with an extra player and pure
quality all over and goals [.

Anfield Red 31 October @ 01:29 PM EST
Liverpool will appeal the red cards shown to Jamie Carragher and Philip Degen; Rafael Benitez has
confirmed. Degen's challenge was more worthy of a yellow than a red; but it was still a bit
wreckless, whereas Carragher's could be rescinded if the FA watch the replays and decide if firstly
Zamora was offside; and the fact [.

Arsenal moved into the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup with a 2-1 win over Liverpool at the
Emirates Stadium.
There was plenty of attacking endeavour on show and the packed stands were treated to three
top-class goals. Fran Merida netted his first goal in Arsenal colours on 19 minutes, but his
excellent strike was cancelled out by an equalling good finish from Emiliano Insua six minutes
later.

This was always going to be a tricky game, one from which Liverpool had everything to lose whilst
Leeds United, doing so well in League One, were going to be determined to do well in front of their
own fans. For Benitez, the headache was going to be who to play: on the one hand there was the
calls to put in some of the younger players but on the other there was the fear of being shown up
by Leeds with the hammering that would undoubtedly follow.

I was recently answered some questions for ESPNstar about my hopes for the upcoming season. Here is

There's something depressingly familiar about Liverpool's creatively bereft pre-season performances
so far.
Three games in and the same problems that consistently plague this Liverpool team are very much in
evidence, namely lack of creativity, needless draws and a consistent failure to take good chances.

This source doesn't beat around the bush!
Over the last year, Rafael Benitez has wasted a huge chunk of the club's money on transfers
that, for whatever reason, just didn't work out. With news that Liverpool have reportedly accepted
a £4.3m bid from Napoli for left-back Andrea Dossena, this money-wasting trend seems set to
continue.

Right back wasn't exactly a position many thought Liverpool needed to look at this summer.
Certainly not if it meant spending £17 on it. Yet, as so very often happens, Rafael Benitez
thought differently.
In reality, he's been looking for a player of Glen Johnson's abilities - an attack minded right
back - for quite some time.

EPL Talk 17 June @ 08:43 AM EST
The buzz coming through the ever-dubious transfer wires claims that Liverpool are close to
signing Glen Johnson from Portsmouth.
Rumors are homing in on a £17m move which includes the £7m Pompey still owe the Reds for Peter
Crouch. Johnson is a fine player, full of skill, energy and guile, and his addition to the side
could be just the sort of tweaking Rafael Benitez needs to push Liverpool up that final rung on the
Premier League ladder.

One player's ill fortune can be another's stroke of luck. That's how it has always been and that's
how it could prove to be for Stephen Darby.
Several twists of fate seem to be opening up the path to the first team for the young right-back.
Alvaro Arbeloa's surprise decision to request a move back to Spain coupled with the annoying (but
predictable?

Liverpool have made their fourth signing of this Summer's transfer window after securing the young
Hungarian Zsolt Poloskei on a season long loan.
The 17 year old playing for MTK Hungaria, joins Andrea Dossena, Philip Degen and Niko Saric on the
Reds' list of new signings. The Hungarian U 17 international was on a three week trial with the
Merseysiders and the coaching staff at Melwood were obviously very impressed with Poloskei's
ability.

Liverpool have finalised the move of Philip Degen from Borussia Dortmund but have lost Harry Kewell
to Turkish outfit Galatasary. Long time reserve member Anthony Le Tallec has also completed a move
away from Anfield to Le Mans while The Reds look to snatch up Gareth Barry and Andrea Dossena over
the next few days.

It is fair to say that the signing of Philip Degen has left most fans, at best, underwhelmed.
Even though only a few have ever seen him play enough to really form an opinion, the over-riding
feeling is that he won't be any good.
Therefore it was refreshing to hear Andy Brassel talk positively about him.
