Union Home Kit.
Things are coming along very nicely in Chester, PA currently for Major League Soccer's newest
expansion club. Since my last update back in September, the stadium has come on leaps and bounds
with being close to 50% complete, open tryouts in New Jersey have just taken place, the home kit
has just been shown to the public officially with the jerseys making their way to retail stores by
the end of this week and the first three opponents of the Union have been announced.

MLS are like that handy man father or uncle. Whenever they are ready to fix things or have tools to
do it, expect an explosion of sorts.
Well you have to give Don Garber credit for his moxie, but his move to place the MLS Cup final
on primetime on Sunday is borderline insanity.

Confirming a report made by the Wasington Post's Steven Goff on Wednesday, Philadelphia Union
president Tom Veit acknowledged this morning that the club may end up playing their first-ever
league game in a venue other than the 18,500-seat stadium that is currently being built for them in
Chester. Instead, there is a possibility that the team will kick off their first season in the
league at 68,000-seat Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles.

Many Philadelphia fans are stirring with excitement over start of 2010, and the addition of
Philadelphia to MLS. With the start of the season yet to be set and a tight construction schedule
ahead of the team, Union fans might not get a chance to kickoff the season in their new
stadium.
Because of the uncertainties about next year, Philadelphia's front office are keeping their
options open as to the site of the first kick in 2010.

So, as a native of the Philadelphia area here in the US I'm confronted with something of a dilemma.
Growing up in Philadelphia you are generally brought up with a healthy (and some would say
unhealthy) bit of mania for the local professional sports teams across all major American sports.
As a kid who played just about every sport available growing up and growing up in an era (late 70s
and early 80s) when all of the local teams were challenging for championships I formed life-long
attachments to my teams - the Phillies in baseball (that's the defending World Series champion
Phillies I might add); the 76ers in basketball; the Flyers in hockey; and the Eagles in football
(our version).

I got a breaking news e-mail tonight from a few sources - Michael Vick has signed with the
Philadelphia Eagles. Sigh. How is that even news worthy? No, the big story tonight is the story
thatGrant Wahl has broken that...

Cot damn y'all. Check out Stuart and Santino nailing 50-tard field goals at the Philadelphia Eagles
practice facility with David Akers. Not a bad showing at all by the boys but you just know that
somewhere in Toms River, NJ Tony Meola remains unimpressed.

Santino Quaranta and Stuart Holden knocked the soccer ball and pigskin around with Philadelphia
Eagles kicker David Akers the other day at Men's National Team training. All three did a great job
with each other's sport. The US team takes on Panama tomorrow night at 7 p.m. CT on Fox Soccer
Channel in Philly in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

No, that's not our third goalkeeper - although judging by his performance, he could have had a

Today's training session featured smaller numbers, as a few players departed camp while Brad Evans,
Chad Marshall and Robbie Rogers joined up with the Columbus Crew for a visit to the White House in
Washington D.C. We went to the Philadelphia Eagles training complex, which as you can see from the
above photo, is close to where we'll be playing Panama on Saturday night (you can see Lincoln
Financial Field in the background above the trees).
