After watching Fernando Torres' performance yesterday for Chelsea I thought to myself "He's had a
good game today". Then I saw the report of Ex-Liverpool Phil Thompson on Skysports "Soccer
Saturday" and couldn't believe what I was reading!. Thompson is quoted soon after the game
saying:
"He's not anywhere near.

Bob Paisley's all-conquering team of the late-seventies/early eighties is widely regarded to be one

Liverpool Draw Chelsea in Carling Cup
Liverpool have drawn Chelsea away in the Carling Cup quarter-final. The fixture is yet to be
given a date but will kick off in the week beginning the 28th October. Phil Thompson made the draw
live on Sky Sports News, and his former club will have to continue their fine form away from home
in the competition if they wish to progress into the semi-final stage.

Liverpool's 4-3 win against Newcastle United at Anfield in 1996 It remains a seminal game in
English football, full of end-to-end action and utter drama.
At the weekend, the two clubs came together once more, to recreate that classic game all for
the sake of a number of fabulous charities including the NSPCC, CHUF, Alan Shearer Centre, Sir
Bobby Robson Foundation and NE Children's Charity Pathways.
I'm not a fan of Sky Sports; despite watching it more than I should. It's shallow and far too
excitable when covering the most mundane topic. I watch it anyway and it can be funny in seeing how
relentless they can be in self-promotion. What annoys me though is the punditry, and how bad it is
at times.
Phil Thompson and comedian Chris Cairns were the guests of honour at a celebratory men's health
event held at Anfield on Thursday afternoon.
The duo enjoyed good-natured banter with over 100 attendees proving that laughter really can be the
best medicine.
The occasion, which was funded by the Barclays Premier league, the Football Pools and Liverpool
PCT, was a fitting way to celebrate another year of this successful men's health program aimed at
helping Liverpool men of all ages to improve their lifestyle.

Former Liverpool skipper Phil Thompson believes that the sale of Raul Meireles, who was bought for
£11 million, to Chelsea for a fee of around £12m was a "fantastic deal" for all the parties
involved.
Meireles, who impressed and became a fan favourite in his one and only season on Merseyside, was
sold at the eleventh hour on the final day of the transfer window.
Liverpool, along with Standard Chartered Bank, have launched a program for nurturing football

of Liverpool's historic treble.

Just as the Aztec god of humongous nasal passages Phil Thompson prophesied on Norwegian
television many moons ago, Liverpool have this very afternoon announced that they have agreed a fee
with Newcastle for left-back Jose Enrique the cheeky buggers won't tell us what that fee it is,
though we've heard it's somewhere up around the £6 million mark.
Roy Evans is returning to management for a special charity match in October.
The former Reds boss will lead a Liverpool side against Kevin Keegan's Newcastle in a showdown
being billed at 'The Entertainers Reunited'.
The two bosses famously came up against each other at Anfield in April 1996 when Liverpool won 4-3
in a game which has been voted the greatest in Premier League history.
Kenny Dalglish's last public act on Liverpool's tour of Asia was to engage in some public banter
with Phil Thompson in front of 38,000 fans who had come to see his players engage in a little light

It proved that, however firm their place is in Anfield's pantheon, Thompson and Dalglish have a
limited future as a comedy double act, although the reception they received would have flattered
Morecambe and Wise.

For the first time in their history, Liverpool Football Club has landed in China to kick off the
first leg of their Standard Chartered sponsored pre-season tour of Asia.
Kenny Dalglish and his squad touched down at Guangzhou airport at 11am local time this morning
following a 13-hour flight from Liverpool (via Kazakhstan) - and were greeted by scenes of hysteria
as Chinese fans gathered in their hundreds to welcome the Reds to their country for the first time.
Having given up hope of signing Jose Enrique and Gael Clichy, Kenny Dalglish has apparently turned
his attention to securing the services of Wayne Bridge.
Bridge, moving to West Ham United on loan at the end of last season for 15 league appearances,
proved that he still has a lot to offer in the top tier of English football.
Jonas Gutierrez says he is trying to convince Jose Enrique to stay at Newcastle, as a huge offer
looms from Liverpool.
Enrique, Gutierrez and Fabricio Coloccini have been dubbed the ‘Three Amigos' for their close
relationship both on and off the field, and Gutierrez is hoping Enrique decides against a move to
Liverpool.
Reported Liverpool target Jose Enrique has refuted suggestions that he has already negotiated a
summer move to Merseyside.
It has been widely speculated that the Newcastle defender will join the Reds during the transfer
window as they look to draft in a new first-choice left-back.
Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has since claimed that a deal was already in place to bring the
Spaniard to Anfield, although Enrique has denied this is the case.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has insisted there is no deal in place to sell Spanish full-back Jose
Enrique to Liverpool. Speculation has been rife in recent months that the former Villarreal
full-back will leave Tyneside during the summer after putting talks over a new contract on
hold.
Former Liverpool player and assistant manager Phil Thompson said in a television interview over the
weekend he understood a deal had been done, a claim on which Newcastle were not prepared to
comment.
We put the article out earlier today on Jose Enrique, and said the revelations from Phil Thompson
had put both Newcastle and Liverpool clubs in a difficult situation, and we thought there wasn't

I have to think that both Liverpool and Newcastle are furious with former Liverpool great Phil

Liverpool legend Phil Thompson believes Newcastle left-back Jose Enrique has already agreed a move
to Anfield.
Enrique, 25, has been one of Newcastle's most impressive performers over the last two seasons and
he is said to be rated at around £15 million.
Thompson, who won three European Cups as a Reds player and has acted as the club's assistant
manager, told TV2: "From what I've heard, yes, the deal has been done and he will come to
Liverpool.
Former Liverpool defender and assistant manager, Phil Thompson is claiming that Newcastle United

Norwegian TV channel, TV2, Thompson reported that a deal for the 25 year old is "a done deal",
saying: "From what I've heard, yes the [.
Here's the interview that Phil Thompson gave when he said it was his understanding that Jose
Enrique would be joining Liverpool in the summer.

in the summer could well be true. Jose Enrique - joining Andy Carroll at Liverpool That's because
Liverpool legend and former coach, Phil Thompson, has said that his inside information is that
Liverpool have already agreed [.
