season, we hope, but given the national side's dismal display against Norway on Wednesday, it's
safe to assume that none of us will be booking flights to South Africa anytime soon. Miracles do

The latest news coming from Scottish Premier Division club Aberdeen suggests that former Arsenal,
Tottenham Hotspur and Toronto FC man Rohan Ricketts is in line to sign for the club. Ricketts, who
has been without a club since being released by the MLS side in June, has impressed on trial at the
Dons, looking lively [.

The weather may have gotten the better of the Scottish Cup games at Forfar, Brechin and Inverurie,
but there was plenty of action in the other fixtures taking place. We round up the Scottish Cup

There's a pretty busy four days of football coming up in Scotland. The fourth round of the Scottish
Cup takes place between Saturday and Tuesday and, as well as all that, there's some domestic league
action down in the Second and Third divisions too. Up in the Highland League there are five games
scheduled but, like all of the games planned, whether any or all of these go ahead depends very
much on the weather.

Do friendlies mean anything at all? Most managers would say they're a valuable way of gauging a
team's readiness for the season ahead. If they win. If they lose they'll write them off as merely a
fitness excercise. So who knows if they do mean anything. But three events in Scottish football
show that friendlies can have a far from positive impact.

Following on from an earlier posting about some of the poor performances our top sides have been
putting in against lower league opposition, we literally fell of the chair when this scoreline was
SMS'd to us live from the away end at the Balmoor Stadium in Peterhead. There are bad results and
there are embarrassing results.
