Anfield Talk 19 November @ 03:48 PM EST
Liverpool, Spurs and Fulham were put on red alert last night as Ruud van Nistelrooy admitted he
would consider a return to the Premier League.
The Dutch striker is out in the cold at Real Madrid and is worried about his World Cup place.
The Spanish giants would consider selling the former Manchester United hitman for £5m in the
January transfer market.

Apologies about the lack of posting recently. I've slipped into an euphoria-induced coma at the
sight of Tom Huddlestone and Peter Crouch both coming on for England in Doha on Saturday. The
prognosis? I'll be okay in the long run but Jermaine Jenas definitely won't go to the World
Cup.
I promise normal service will be resumed shortly, once the deluge of Uni work is eased a little
bit.

A cheat. An embarrassment. A disgrace.
All words used to describe Liverpool's David N'Gog in the aftermath of last Monday's game
against Birmingham. Other media outlets demanded a 5 game ban. In a matter of seconds an
unremarkable squad player catapulted to being the poster boy for all that's wrong with the modern
game.

Bad news. Our list of the fallen is now about as long as Peter Crouch's leg. The BBC so kindly
tells us that we're missing Rio Ferdinand, Steven Gerrard, Ashley Cole, David James, Theo Walcott,
Emile Heskey, David Beckham, Aaron Lennon, Carlton Cole, John Terry, Frank Lampard, and Glen
Johnson.

Sad news out of Germany yesterday, as it appears star goalkeeper Robert Enke took his own life.
The 32 year old was apparently struck by a train. He is survived by his wife and their adopted
daughter.
The impact of this one will be felt a while over there.

ESPN has taken more than their fair share of stick for their football/soccer coverage, and for
good reason. They're American (despite dubbing themselves The Global Leader) and, by and large,
they do American sports well. Others: not so much.
But they've gone off-script with their latest venture, the Soccer Power Index, designed to
render World Cup 2010 moot.

Harry Redknapp appears to have plans aplenty to rejuvenate the White Hart Lane squad still
further and has his eyes on some top notch youngsters and even though the club has posted record
profits they could make a tidy profit from selling these four dead weights in order to balance the
books.

So how bad was the Juande Ramos and Damien Comolli regime at Spurs? Well it took almost £150m
on new players in the 16 months to undo the damage down by Ramos and Comolli.
Spurs spent £119.3m in the year ending June 2009, with another £29.4m invested since on the
likes of Peter Crouch, Sebastien Bassong and Niko Kranjcar.

A curious one, this. Back in the days of yore, when Luka Modric limped off against Birmingham, I
don't think anyone foresaw things panning out quite this way. Robbie Keane undroppable, wingers
treated like lepers, long-ball upon long-ball. We're muddling through, but the sooner both the
Croatian genius and Lennon return, the better.

by CARL ELDRIDGE Manuel Almunia proved he is good enough to keep Arsenal on track for honours this
season with his performance against the team-that-dare-not-speak-its-name on Saturday.
Questions were asked earlier in the season about the Spaniard and one or two errors didn't
exactly provide the cornerstone of a defence for his suitability as the No.

Portsmouth fans have had very little to cheer about this season. A record-breaking
losing streak to kick-off their campaign coupled with persistent ownership rumours has seen
Pompey become every punter's bet for the drop. Goals have ultimately been the problem on
the South Coast, with the club netting only 5 in 10 matches prior to Saturday's Wigan
encounter.

by JAMES CURTIS The rage in Cesc Fabregas' eyes was uncontrollable as he raced to one corner of
the Emirates, executed a mini knee-slide and bounced back up with clenched fists to celebrate
Arsenal's second goal. Just one minute earlier Robin van Persie had circled the same section with
his arms flung out and chest pumping having opened the scoring.

Arséne Wenger's Catalan-inspired reinvention has given the Gunners an explosiveness and

Yesterday's game against Sp*rs raised so many questions for me. Having travelled that morning
from Dublin knowing that Sp*rs were now stronger than us, I have to admit I was ever so worried.
Robbie Keane surely wouldn't lie. Peter Crouch also had his tuppenceworth to throw in about the
respective merits of both teams, suggesting that his was better than ours.

"Welcome to my nightmare, welcome to my breakdown."
Alice Cooper's 1975 campy anthem sums up the last five minutes of the first half for Spurs.
Harry Redknapp probably regrets starting a clearly unfit Ledley King who has struggled with
injuries this season. Sagna on the right whips in a cross which Van Persie reacts to more quickly,
outmaneuvering King to turn the ball past Heurelho Gomes for the first goal in the 42nd minute.

That could have gone better. But I'll stand by my previous comments; Arsenal fans are generally
morons.
Essentially, we did badly. We did very badly indeed. But up until about 40 minutes in, it was
looking like a very close gig. We were defending both in numbers and extremely competently. Apart
from one or two hairy moments, Ledley King and Seb Bassong were doing a more than adequate job.

Has to be a quick one this weekend due to the imminent arrival of most of wife's family for
lunch, then I'm straight off to a game in the Championship. Last weekend I managed to watch no
football whatsoever due to a family gathering and a wedding ('Likely Lads' moment: I was the guest
with the mobile phone looking at score updates from Liverpool/Man UÂ during the
speeches), so I'm looking forward to this weekend, especially Ajax v
Feyenoord tomorrow lunchtime (ESPN)
It's about an hour or so to go before the lunchtime game: Arsenal v
Spurs (12:45pm, Sky Sports 1) looks a tasty one, Arsenal have won all four of
their home league games this season and Spurs have a decent away record; the rest of today's slate
is notable for the players that are missing.

Normally the points in this fixture are rather an irrelevance, but this time there is more at
stake than just bragging rights. The sides go into the game separated only by goal difference, and
the three points up for grabs could prove crucial come May. Ultimately, league position is the
gauge, and this season for a change we have a realistic chance of finishing above l'Arse.
