Persija finally recorded a victory against their nemesis but not for the first time a game between
the two teams was marred by crowd trouble.
In 2007 during a Copa Indonesia semi final Persipura fans invaded the pitch through a single gate
that was left open, ostensibly to escape from a tiny number of Persija fans who were attacking
them.
I think it's so ironic how a team that is famous for giving nothing away at home gets upset when
decisions don't go their way in away games. When a nailed on pen isn't given to their opponents.
Yet when the same happens to them in an away game they spit the dummy. The word shame doesn't seem
to exist.
The two top teams met last weekend as did two of the biggest teams and given the Javan centric
nature of the country the focus was obviously on Persib and Persija. Played at the Jalak Harapat
Stadium in front of 30,000 fanatic Bobotoh the hosts scraped through 1-0 thanks to a controversila
first half pen by Miljan Radovic, his fifth goal of the season.
Handful of games played midweek in Indonesia. Persipura returned to the top of the table beating
Persiram in an almost local derby while Sriwijaya dropped points at Persiwa where no team gets
anything beyond fed up. Persiba, who also rarely drop points at home, won their second local derby
on the spin, defeating Mitra Kukar 3-1 at their tiny Persiba Stadium.

Simon McMenemy has only been with Mitra Kukar for five games but already the club are mumbling
about 'evaluating' his performance...Indonesian football speak for the dreaded of vote of
confidence.
Very often it's little more than the club owners speaking out in public, trying to head off any fan
demonstration about poor performances on the field.
Just as I was on my way to the airport yesterday I read a story that Persipura striker Titus Bonai
was interesting Thai Premier League side Chonburi. Selangor were also said to be interested. Bonai
says he is focussed on Persipura for now...as you would expect a footballer to say. I mean, they
never, ever think about their next meal ticket.

In the normal scheme of things there would be three Indonesian teams preparing for intercontinental
competition; Persipura as ISL champions, Semen Padang as runners up and Persija for finishing third
in the absence of any Indonesia Cup last season.
The AFC will only recognise the PSSI as the body qualified to run football in the country.
PSMS have turned to Raja Isa for the new season. The Malaysian coach has previously worked with
Persiram, PSM and Persipura.
After spending so long working in the eastern islands I guess he will be happy to have a job so
much closer to home.
Remember the Indonesia Premier League that began a couple of weeks ago when Persib played Semen
Padang? The league that was going to have 24 clubs? Well, the latest is that there will be 18 teams
when it kicks off again, though don't ask when that might be. Them folks have yet to finish a
league that they started.
The IIC is back for a second season and it is a perfect microcosm of football in Indonesia at the
moment. Last year it was run by the official body that ran competitive football, Liga Indonesia.
This year the same people run it but they are no longer official and the people at the new official
body are a bit pissed that teams supposed to be entering their competitions are entering what is in
effect a competition run by their rivals.
The aging Hendro Kartiko has received a surprise recall to the Indonesian national team ahead of
their World Cup Qualifiers. Kartiko, now with newly promoted Mitra Kukar, is one of four keepers
named in the squad.
The others are I Made Wirawan (Persiba), Ferry Rotinsulu (Sriwijaya) and Samsidar (Semen Padang).
Following on from Indonesia's poor start to their World Cup Qualifying campaign, two defeats
against Iran and Bahrain, it was being mumbled in some corners that it might be better to drop the
whole team and bring in the Under 23s as they prepare for their SEA Games campaign next month.
We've been here before.

Persib Bandung's search for a new continues. Last season saw them work their way through three
different coaches yet none were able to make any real impression on a team filled with stars yet
seemingly unable to turn potential into results on the field.
Daniel Roekito, who ended last season with Persib, has taken over the reigns at Persisam Samarinda
and till now Persib have hit a brick wall in their efforts to replace him.
Sriwijaya's best days were when their striker, Keith Kayamba, was paired alongside a prolific
strike partner, be it Christian Lenglolo or Claude Ngon Djan.
Without a reliable goal getter too much rested on the veteran and the team struggled to find any
consistency despite boasting a fine, experienced squad.
Persipura and Indonesia striker Boas Solossa has reportedly turned down a move to Malaysia.
Apparently the money on offer was pretty good but Boas has said he wants to stay in Indonesia with
the champions.
The Malaysian team? Not any of the big boys like Selangor or Kelantan or Kedah but Sime Darby!

It came as no real surprise to see Bontang relegated from the Indonesia Super League. They had been
bottom so long it had become the norm. The 3-2 defeat against Persidafon in a feisty play off
marred by nine yellow cards just confirmed the inevitable.
You can be sure though that many players will be happy to see the back of the team from East
Kalimantan.

A mixed night for teams from the region.
These have not been happy days for fans of Indonesian football. The governing body, PSSI, is on a
collision course with FIFA and there is a very real chance Indonesia could be banned from all FIFA
recognised competitions which includes the World Cup Qualifiers that begin soon.
FA officials have twice humiliated themselves in front of representatives of FIFA as they bitch and
scrap to elect a new leadership that will look after their interests and not the interests of the
game.
Well, politically speaking it is a derby. Persiba travelled to Bontang and won 5-3 continuing their
recent goal scoring spree, 13 in three games. A derby geographically? Well, if you wanna call a 6
hour drive a local derby!
Persiba finished 3rd last season and hopes were high in the oil rich town that a serious shot at
the title was on the cards.

This game all but ended PSMS' outside chances of an automatic play off spot but they still stand a

It is being reported that Persipura's tidy midfield lynchpin, Emmanuel Wanggai, could be out for
the next six months. This will be a big blow for both club and country.
Persipura are closing in on their second Indonesia Super League title in three years while
Indonesia have World Cup qualifying as well as the SEA ams which they host later in the year.
I've long whined that Indonesian clubs have next to no idea about how to market themselves. This
story proves the theory.
Persipura are due to play Chonburi in the AFC Cup on Wednesday night in what promises to be an
historic night for the people of Jayapura with the AFC finally approving the Mandala Stadium for
international competition.
What a bloody awful game this was. Dire, painful. Excruciating.
FIFPro, the players union in Indonesia, had just held a meeting in Jakarta and, with recent events
in the country there was no doubt a lot to talk about.
I wonder if the topics of player simulation ever cropped up? Of diving? Of falling to the ground
when the other team had a break on to try and break up the momentum?
Did three big articles yesterday. Lee Hendrie and Rabbit Sate can be found on ITV, my debut
there.
Should terracing make a return to English football? My latest post on Premier League Nonsense
considers that thorny issue.
Football in Aceh is on the rise with Persiraja and PSAP leading the charge for the Indonesia Super
League.
It could be the defining game of the 2010/2011 Indonesia Super League season.
Persipura have led the ISL since putting Pelita Jaya to the sword way back in September. They
have been ruthless and relentless, steamrollering lesser teams and happy to snatch a point when
against stronger opposition.
Good game. Very good game. Deserved a better crowd but then what do you expect on a work day and
the way the traffic is these days in Jakarta.
First half was all Persipura. Zah Rahan and Manu Wanggai were sublime in the middle, the back three
rarely troubled and I think the keeper returned to the dressing room half way through.
Bad news for Chonburi and South China.
Persipura have been given the go ahead to use their Mandala Stadium in Jayapura for their remaining
AFC Cup games.
There are no direct flights to Jayapura (DJJ) on Garuda, the only airline I would consider for such
a trek. You get to transit at places like Denpaser, Timika or Makassar depending on the flight.
Persipura's Manadala Stadium, in Jayapura, Papua, is being assessed today by bods from the Asian
Football Confederation. If they deem it suitable then Persipura can use the stadium for their two
remaining AFC Cup games against Chonburi and South China.
Apparently the big screen wasn't ready and there were issues with the media area as of yesterday.

Busy two weeks for Persipura in the Jakarta Globe
Results this week in the AFC Cup have cemented teams from this region good start to the
competition. Sriwijaya needed an injury time winner from Claudiano Do Santos to secure a win
against TSW Pegasus in Hong Kong, a win that sees them of the group after two games and goes some
way to easing the pain of a draw in their first game at home to a Maldives team.
Impressive by Persipura with Boas Solossa showing what he can do. Scored one, should have had at
least a hat trick. East Bengal had chances but were well beaten.
I went to the game, honest I did, but once neared the stadium the heavens opened so I went straight
to the pub. The game was delayed by 90 minutes, kicking off just as I arrived in said pub but the
traffic was a 'mare so no way was I going back.
