With the holiday season in our rearview mirrors, the MLS pre-season is about to kick into gear.
Likewise, the USMNT returns to action with the annual January camp and friendlies. But we begin
with the different roster trajectories of the two biggest names in American club soccer...
The Perils of Success
It seemed that the price of the Galaxy's 2011 success would be an off-season dismantling,
headlined by the long-rumored departure of David Beckham.
What's up guys? I'm Will, the new guy. In between various odds n' ends, I'll be your NSC tour guide
through the joys (see: Juan Agudelo) and perils (see: Chivas USA's existence) of the ongoing MLS
season. On the left you'll see Landon Donovan in his natural habitat, sunning himself on a beach,
quietly ruing David Beckham for extravagantly taking off his shirt a few feet away.
The internet is a scary place. You never know what lurks just around the next corner. One click
and, bam, you get rick-rolled or spammed some life insurance. Still with the proper guidance, you
can find some marvelous sites. Here are a few of them....
The first two sites are admittedly not sport-specific.

Fernando Torres and Andy Carroll illustrate perils of a striker's lot | Paul
Hayward
Spain and England left out £85m of misfiring striking talent this week but when a
centre-forward is on song it lifts the entire team As any Middlesbrough fan will tell you – just
mention Afonso Alves or Massimo Maccarone as prompts – buying the wrong striker is a peculiarly
calamitous act that invites external derision and internal angst.
Right chaps, I've got some info that's going to make your day. Have you ever worried about your
testosterone levels? Well, I've been doing some research on all of your behalfs and there are some
very simple ways for you to make sure you never have to worry ..........
What actually happened was, having been banging on about the perceived 'lack of testosterone' on
show from our team I went delving into the depths of male hormones on the internet to see what I
could discover.
Back in 2008 I attended much of the ASEAN Football Federation Youth Championships here in Jakarta.
Five teams competed, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and Bahrain. The Aussies won,
beating Bahrain in the final.
But what of the players four years on. Back then they were under 16.
This article titled "Euro 2012: Laurent Blanc warns France not to underestimate Sweden" was
written by Stuart James in Kiev, for The Guardian on Monday 18th June 2012 20.39 UTC
Laurent Blanc has warned his players about the perils of underestimating Sweden and insisted
that France's only focus on Tuesday night should be on victory, rather than on winning by a wide
enough margin to ensure they finish top of Group D on goal difference.
Day ten of the SPL Advent. Rangers. Dreaming of a Whyte Christmas.
Rangers offer another chance for one of these half season reviews to become more a work of
financial reporting. I'll try to resist.
We know the taxman cometh, we know Craig Whyte himself rarely seems short of a battle to fight and
we know that other companies and individuals have raised concerns over Rangers' financial position.
Me neither. In fact, I'm not sure there is a soul alive who understands quite how we managed to
toddle off from that with a win, but bearing in mind the perils that lurk within the mouths of
gift-horses I suggest we stuff the three points under our jumpers and sneak off before anyone
notices.
It might be an idea for Jake Livermore and Sebastien Bassong to bond over a Jason Statham DVD
night or some other such bromantic activity, because last night neither seemed to be aware that the
other was of the same species, let alone the same centre-back pairing.
If you write an optimistic match preview and it just doesn't pan out, it's never fun writing the
post-match report. Such are the perils of wishful thinking. You have to walk back to the discussion
with tail firmly between legs, no one's fault but your own.
Liverpool FC this afternoon waved goodbye to over 100 kids who participated in a five-day free
football camp in South Liverpool.
The 'Goals 4 All' football camp, organized by LFC community coach Scott Fowler and his colleagues,
saw 120 boys and girls attend daily training sessions at 'Goals' in Speke, one of the best amateur
football facilities in the city.
It's been a while since we've had a good blog roundtable around these parts. Here's us trying to
help each other through the perils that is Friday trading: Jeremy Spitzberg: maybe it's the

Bastian has arranged his features into an expression that implies he knows he looks like a buffoon,
but is being paid enough by his club not to give a crap. Or maybe he's just thrilled to be 27
years old. Who knows? Images via fcbayernmunich.de
The use of football players in club catalogue modelling is fraught with danger.
