Remember two weeks ago when forward Kris Boyd of Rangers turned down Houston? Well, today he signed
with Portland!! Hoooo-Weeeee! Bet he won't receive a friendly welcome when he makes his first visit
to whatever that new stadium in Houston is called.

STARTERSLandon Donovan set up both Everton goals today as they knocked Fulham out of the FA Cup. Clint
Dempsey was a non-factor for Fulham, who are terrible away from home. And of course Tim Howard
guarded the entrance to the cave like a momma bear as usual for Everton. And a 4th American was
even on the team sheets today as Marcus Hahnemann was the Everton back up keeper.
Yesterday was quite an afternoon of football, with two compelling Cup matches. Turns out
there's more today another Copa del Rey quarterfinal second leg, another Coppa Italia quarterfinal,
and this just in from our Uruguayan buddy it's time for Copa Libertadores again. Click thru for

Gaston Ramirez is set to be the subject of bids from both Liverpool and Juventus when the January
transfer window opens.
The Uruguayan playmaker has emerged as one of the most in-demand players in Italy, thanks to his
impressive form since joining Bologna from Penarol in 2010.
It was thought Juventus would land the 21-year-old at the end of the season, but reports in Italy
have suggested the situation has changed.
Hopes are high that Syamsir Alam will be Indonesia's next great thing. As part of the SAD project
in Uruguay he impressed enough to secure a loan deal at Penarol, one of the biggest clubs in South
America.
Now he has signed for Belgian side CS Vise who play in the second division there. He will be among
friends as fellow Indonesians Yericho Christiantoko, Alfin Tuasalamony and Yandi Munawar at the
club owned by the same people who own Pelita Jaya and Brisbane Roar.
Liverpool have jumped to the front of the queue for Bologna midfielder Gaston Ramirez.
The Reds' interest in the Uruguayan starlet has been an open secret for some time, but opposition
for Ramirez' signature has also been on the cards, with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid,
Manchester United, Manchester City and Sevilla linked with a bid.
Arthur Irawan may not be the best known player in Indonesia. It seems even the various national
team selectors weren't aware of his presence or talent as the 18 year old striker wasn't included
in the current SEA Games squad.
Maybe not good enough for his national team but Irawan was obviously good enough for La Liga as
Espanyol have signed him.
If the Copa Libertadores was Neymar's final perfomance for Santos, he certainly left on a high
note.
The much-sought-after transfer target scored the opening goal to lead Santos to a 2-1 victory
over Penarol Wednedsay night in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final.

Brazil Champions Santos claim their first Copa Libertadores title since 1963

After a dour, goalless first leg in Uruguay, a goal apiece from Neymar and Danilo was enough to
bag Santos their first Copa Libertadores title since Pele was in the side last night with an
own-goal providing Penarol with an 80th-minute consolation.
Full-time: time for kick-off Remember the moral outrage that Barcelona and (predominantly) Real
Madrid reduced the semi-final of Europe's premier club competition to a game of handbags and
theatrics? Well, things are done a bit differently in South America. The second-leg of the
Champions League-equivalent Copa Liberadores final took place yesterday between Santos and Penarol.

Roughly 2,050 kilometres separate the city of Córdoba, Argentina, and Santos, the municipality
located in São Paulo state, Brazil. Travelling by air is recommended but it is possible by
land.
The Uruguayans claim a Santos fan provoked them which led to the ugly scenes after the match
when both clubs go after each other kicking and punching. Elano lies on the pitch after being
clobbered.
Later on the sidelines a Penarol player comes flying in UFC style and the fight renews.
Santos lifts the 2011 Copa Libertadores. Neymar comes good, Danilo follows. Penarol manages to
pull back one through an own goal by Durval. The match ends in fisticuffs.
Neymar wept after the match as did Pele, the guardian angel of Santos who's taken quite a shine
to the striker with the mohawk hairdo.

Two of South America's most storied clubs -- Brazil's Santos and Uruguay's Penarol -- face off
in the return leg of the Copa Libertadores final tonight (8:30 p.m., Fox Sports en Espanol) after a
goalless match last week at the famed Centenario stadium in Montevideo, Uruguay.
This Wednesday, Neymar and his Santos team mates will take on Penarol in the Copa Libertadores
final second leg with a chance to win the competition for the first time in 50 years.
After the tournament has finished, the Santos President has said that clubs will be free to talk to
Neymar about a move but would hope that he stays at the club to continue to make history.

In which the two sides involved, Penarol and Santos, emerge from the Estadio Centenario tunnel

somewhere.
As you can see, it's fairly difficult to tell.

Attendance at New England v Toronto game on Wednesday night in Foxborough MA was 6,680! The Revs
now officially have the lamest ownership group in all of MLS. They should be embarrassed to have so
few at their games. Shame on them. The fans, players, and staff all deserve better than the support
given to them by the Krafts.

Jonathan Spector has spent the last five years with West Ham United, but his time with the club
appears to have come to a end.
Spector is officially a free agent after failing to agree to new a deal with West Ham, which

Spot the players Ah, one of the exciting moments of the season: the two teams take to the field for
the final of your continent's premier club competition. Think Manchester United and Barcelona
running out at Wembley. But it turns out if you wanted to see the players of Penarol and Santos
emerge for their [.
Penarol was one of the seven clubs in the inaugural Copa Libertadores in 1960 and it also had
the distinction of winning the first edition. They successfully repeated as champions the following
year. In 1963 the Uruguayan side came across a sublime Santos side led by Pele in the finals and
waged a series of classics, losing the first leg at home and then rebounding on the road to force a
playoff which they lost 0-3.
The seventh game of the Stanley Cup finals isn't the only Massachusetts-Canada battle Wednedsay

The New England Revolution welcomes Toronto FC to Gillette Stadium (8 p.m., MLS Direct

The 2011 Copa Libertadores final will see two of South America's pioneering club sides take the
competition back to its halcyon days of the 1960s. Uruguayan giants Peñarol are one of the grand
old clubs of the continent having won South American football's greatest club competition on five
occasions, just two behind record champions Independiente.

Almost 50 years later, Penarol will get its chance at revenge.
The Uruguayan club received a crucial away goal from Matias Mier Thursday night that proved to
be the difference in its Copa Libertadores semifinal matchup with Argentina's Velez Sarsfield.
Velez' Santiago Silva missed a 76th-minute penalty that would've put his team through, as Penarol
advanced, 2-2 on aggregate, to become the first Uruguayan side to advance to the final of the
tournament since 1988.

Nacional entered Saturday's clash with Defensor Sporting needing only one point to secure the
Clausura title, and when Richard Porta opened the scoring after just six minutes, Los Tricolores
looked set to finish the job without much drama. But Sporting went down fighting, creating a number
of chances and dominating large portions of this pulsating encounter at the Estadio Gran Parque
Central.
Penarol won the first semi-final leg against Velez Sarsfield 1 0 bringing back memories of the
invincible Centenario! The success of the Celeste in the last World Cup has been contagious for
Uruguayan clubs as well! The last time the Aurinegros won the Libertadores was in 1987.

It didn't hurt that Penarol's run in the Copa Libertadores forced Diego Aguirre's side to
de-emphasize its domestic campaign, but Nacional deserves plenty of credit for being one point away

of Penarol and six points above Defensor Sporting, which faces the leaders Saturday (3 p.

The Copa Libertadores -- without global marketing and SuperBowl-like build-up -- has remained
one of the more prestigious competitions in the world. Its passion, purity and pressure is what
drives all South American-based players to step it up a notch in the intense challenges that the
Copa offers.
Inter Milan is no longer the reigning European champion, but it can still finish its season on a
high note by winning the Coppa Italia.
Inter faces Palermo in the high-profile club match of the day, while Germany and Uruguay

Argentina's Velez Sarsfield and Uruguay's Penarol each have a step into the semifinals of the Copa
Libertadores after their shutout wins in the home legs of their quarterfinal ties.
Santos, the lone Brazilian team remaining in the field, got a vital away victory in Colombia,

the hour mark after Santiago García ghosted into the penalty area to ram the ball home from just
outside the six yard box.

If Jose Mourinho didn't receive enough punishment by seeing Real Madrid bounced out of the
Champions League by arch-rival Barcelona, he surely has now.
Mourinho was handed a five-match suspension and fined about $81,000 by UEFA for his sending

Penarol fans are apparently overachievers, which is quite nice to look at and quite the process
for what is merely something typically stuck on a pole. In honor of their club's 120th anniversary,
they created the largest sports flag in history. And it's both huge and hugely impressive.
