Not much of a surprise there. It was just announced on ESPNews.
Perhaps the biggest surprise is this is the first time that Landon Donovan, a five-time Honda
Player of the Year and two-time U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year, has won the MLS award.
Said Donovan:
"Well, from a statistical standpoint it wasn't my best year, but what is important to
me, and I think the reason we're being recognized, is that our team was very good this
year.

Is it only me or is the whole world against us?
Firstly, we have a list of injured players longer than my telephone bill. Then, Rafa has to be
contented with playing so-so players because of some friggin owners would not cough up the funds
needed for us to be real contenders for the PL. Then we have a game in which we dominate play for
such a long period and the bar stops the ball and the only time Pepe touches the ball is to collect
it from his net.

' Me and my friends want to make history, we want to change the way people see Africa'. These
are the words of influential Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba. I guess by now there is no need in
saying the world cup is coming to Africa. However, i am still going to say it. The world cup is
coming home!

Not a whole lot of Fire related news coming out of Toyota Park today, so I thought I'd take this
opportunity to catch up on some older bits of info that I haven't had the time to post on earlier.
Here we go...Scott Powers of ESPNChicago.com wrote a nice feature on Brian McBride's upcoming
off-season decision the other day.

BRING back the foreign players but not "just cheap African players" and change the kickoff time to
5.30pm so as not to compete with the EPL playing times, to put the spark back into the
M-League.
These are among the proposals Kelantan coach Peter Butler has proposed to the FA of Malaysia (FAM)
who are in the midst of restructuring the M-League after another subdued season.

After the Colorado Rapids defeated his team 4-0 on Saturday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park,
Jeff Agoos, the sporting director of the New York Red Bulls, graciously took some time to talk

And Sounders fans are
not happy.Boy, I'm glad I live in a peaceful, law-abiding city. I can't imagine what it would be like to live
where people riot over any stupid little thing.
The final voting stats...or at least, the stats that Major League STALINISM feeds to the corporate
media to be spoon-fed by the sheeple.

Don't hold-it against me. After all, it's Real Madrid!
First Juni, then Michael Jackson, now this!!! This is honestly too much too much loss for a
human being to be subjected to in the span of a couple of months. In case you've been living on the
moon these last few days, Karim Benzema has left Lyon!

Background: Dwayne De Rosario may not look Canadian with those patented
dreadlocks, but he is. Frank Yallop brought him to America to play in MLS, but he has ensured he
stayed here with his meticulous passes and historic affinity for the clutch goal. There are few
players in league history with more honors that De Ro, so he belongs here.

Integrity, sportsmanship and pride. If there are three words that make up the foundation of the
sporting world, these three would most certainly be at the top of the list. All sports are built on
a drive to improve, the chance to compete against your peers, and the opportunity to build strong
bonds with others.

OK, so where was I?Oh yeah, I was at Breakers Media Day, getting acquainted with the players and
coaches, saying hello to some of my peers, and eating free food. It's a perk. That, and the free
media guides, which are supposedly quite the collector's item after only thirty seven years or
something, which reminds me, is about the same amount of time that's passed since I've last posted.

Now, grating as it is to have to analyse serial benchwarmer Alex Hleb's comments about Arsenal
needing to pay more to keep hold of their stars, it does baffle me slightly.
We've long been told that Arsenal operate a wage ceiling, but does that really impoverish these
young men by comparison to their peers?

According to Tom Adams at Setanta Sports, defender Phillipe Senderos would like
to stay at AC Milan instead of going back to Arsenal. Senderos
told Milan Channel,
"I feel very good here and I would like to stay ... I know that the decision does not
depend on me, but on the two clubs .

This young man is a well kept secret in Sporting Lisbon, but scouts from English clubs saw him
in youth squad games and U19 national squad.
The numbers are incredible; Wilson Eduardo is scoring more than a goal per game in youth
categories. It is obvious that he has grown past his peers, but the Lisbon club that gave
many talents (it is enough to say only: Ronaldo) don't want to pressure him, so the coach was
suggested to wait a bit longer before he summons him to the A squad.

Steven Gerrard had barely had time to digest the news that he had been named Footballer of the Year
before some critics had started questioning the Liverpool captain's right to the award.
Just like an A-level student who has just got a string of A grades only for the usual parade of
mealy mouthed media mouthpieces to take the wind out of their sails by claiming exams ain't what
they used to be, Gerrard discovered that success in this country may well have a thousand fathers
it also has many more naysayers.

Given the somewhat weak performances from players around the Premier League this past weekend, I
believe that now is the time to give credit where credit is due. Seventeen years after winning his
second PFA Young Player of the Year, Ryan Giggs was voted as the PFA Player of the Year last
week.
