John McGlynn does not want Hearts to make the same mistakes against Liverpool as were made in the
Europa League qualifying rounds last season in a thrashing by Tottenham Hotspur.
The SPL club has drawn English opponents in the play-offs for the second year running, with the
first leg at Tynecastle on 30th August and return at Anfield seven days later.
Philadelphia Union manager Peter Nowak has applied for the open managerial job at Hearts in the
Scottish Premier League, according to a Scottish newspaper report.
Nowak is one of at least two applicants for the position, the Edinburgh Evening News reported
Saturday after speaking with Hearts director HEARTS director Sergejus Fedotovas, who indicated
the club wanted to hire a new manager by before training begins next month.
All the talk has finally finished and while the conjecture over who may or may not be joining
Spurs will go on for another couple of weeks, our season finally gets under way at Tynecastle
tonight.
While Spurs may be favourites to win over two legs, former Hearts boss and current Spurs coach Joe
Jordan says the team will not underestimate their Scottish opponents.
It seems we're running out of ways to describe Vladimir Romanov's unpredictability.
Apparently from nowhere came the news that Jim Jefferies was to be relieved of his position as
manager. Shock, gnashing of teeth and frank changes of opinion followed.
There exists no such concept of the comfortable silence when it comes to football in Edinburgh.
One week, noises out of Tynecastle note the length of time it has been since senior squad players
last saw pounds deposited into their bank accounts, and the next week these same players are
finally paid but rumours of a January firesale for them run rampant.
The only managerial soap opera that was to have transpired in Edinburgh this summer was to
have been at Easter Road involving the love triangle between Hibernian FC, Colin Calderwood, and
Nottingham Forest. Then again, when "Mad Vlad" Romanov blows into town to see about things over at
Tynecastle, general upheaval can never be too far out of the reckoning.
Chelsea and Sunderland march proudly over the border to ensure that Rangers and Hibs are otherwise
occupied as this stuttering SPL start continues.
Rangers are out of the Champions League, a result that also marked Madjid Bougherra's last game for
the club.
Hearts lost Jim Jefferies, gained Paulo Sergio, gambolled through their European tie and landed a
Europa League play-off with the Hotspurs of Tottenham.

A report out of Scotland said that Peter Nowak had applied for the open Hearts managerial role,
but the former Polish international denied talk of his potential departure from the Philadelphia
Union.
Originally found by Philly Soccer Page, The Edinburgh Evening News said that Nowak was one of
two foreign coaches that had put in an application for the job that Paulo Sergio left due to a
disagreement over money.
