Real Salt Lake are looking to the future just as much as they are hoping to win an MLS Cup title
in 2012.
Real Salt Lake announced four moves on Thursday, including the re-signings of Fabian Espindola
and Ned Grabavoy.

Expectations were high going into 2011 for Real Salt Lake. The club was closing in on a historic
CONCACAF Champions League win and everyone in the league was supporting their efforts. But
injuries, suspensions and the gutting loss in the CCL final to Monterrey changed the course of the
season for RSL.
It really doesn't get much worse than that folks. And, yet, as Seattle Sounders coach Sigi
Schmid said in postgame comments, they were lucky they didn't lost 6-0. The Sounders were outplayed
every bit as bad as their 3-0 scoreline suggests, and probably even worse than that.
Just going through the stats, there are signs of Real Salt Lake domination everywhere.
In case you missed the only two MLS league games this Labor Day Weekend, we've got your recap right
here. We hope you all had a safe and enjoyable holiday spent with the ones you love and care about.
Now catch yourself up on RSL's victory over Philadelphia and the late game drama of Sporting and
the Galaxy.
After a very long delay in Philadelphia Union games thanks to Hurricane Irene (seriously, the
last Union match was August 20), our boys in blue and gold are back as the Philadelphia Union
(8-6-10) are making the trip to Sandy, Utah for a date with Real Salt Lake (11-7-6). Kickoff at Rio
Tinto Stadium is scheduled for 9:06:30 PM ET.
Denz of RSL SoapBox, SB Nation's Real Salt Lake blog, and I exchanged
three questions a piece ahead of tonight's Union-RSL match at Rio Tinto. Read my responses to
Denz's questions by clicking on the linked text here.
tBG: What has sent RSL into such a freefall (though that may be hyperbole)?
We exchange three questions with denz of RSL Soapbox in order to get some insider perspective on
Real Salt Lake as they travel to Toyota Park tonight, June 22nd, to take on your Chicago Fire.
denz's answer to my first question is below and the other five questions in the exchange are after
the break.

exchanged three questions a piece ahead of tomorrow's Philadelphia Union-RSL match at PPL
Park.
SK: After starting the season off undefeated, Real Salt Lake has
fallen off a bit, but still sits near the top of the Western Conference with games in hand.
To be quite honest, we don't know who's going to start for the Seattle Sounders when they try to
end Real Salt Lake's 29-match home unbeaten streak. An already confusing set of circumstances is
made worse by the fact that this is the third match in eight days. Rather than give you a projected
starting lineup, we're going with more of a preferred starting lineup.
STARTERSMore than 33,000 tix have already been sold for USA v Spain in Foxborough on Jun 4. Not bad at
all.
STORY OF THE DAYGrant Wahl of Sports Illustrated with a big story on the rise of Real Salt Lake from absolutely
terrible, to toast of the country.
STARTERSChivas USA has TURNED DOWN the opportunity to add Benny Feilhaber to their team.
-That means that not only did he not fit their needs and salary cap, but they couldn't find someone
to give them good value to sign and trade him.
-What happens next? Philly has the next shot at him.
CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUEFinalThe next two weeks will be huge for RSL, MLS and the USA.

Monterrey.
Real Salt Lake's Rocky Mountain victory wasn't limited to just Wednesday night's first-team
action.
The RSL reserves topped those of the Colorado Rapids, 2-0, Thursday afternoon in the second
reserve match for both clubs. Former New York Red Bull Conor Chinn and Collen Warner tallied the
goals for RSL, which improved to 1-1 in reserve play.
The two best teams in MLS met Wednesday in the latest installment of the Rocky Mountain Cup.
This game matched up the past two MLS Cup champions and like four of the previous six games between
these two rivals, was decided by a goal scored after the 88th minute.
In the third minute of second half stoppage time, a foul gave RSL a free-kick 25 yards out.
Everyone expecting the Philadelphia Union to revert back to the mean is in for a rude awakening.
Just ask the New York Red Bulls.
In its second season as a franchise, the Union has the look of a winner after gutting out a home
result against New York, maintaining its spot atop the Eastern Conference standings and climbing
into the top three of the SBI MLS Power Rankings.

The international break has come and gone, and most teams should be at full strength for this
upcoming weekend of Major League Soccer action.
Javier Morales, Chris Wondolowski and Stefan Frei were among those that made the break tolerable
for some with their standout performances last week.

Can you believe the season is less than a week away now? Seriously, the preseason is nearly up
and we're finally going to be getting back into some regular season action here. I'm wrapping up my
positional rankings today with the forwards group.
Lot's of soccer news this week!
We start with the Strikers re-signing 3 players yesterday. Here is what the team had to say:
The Strikers announced today that they have resigned forward/midfielder Martin Nuñez,
midfielder Lennon Celestino, and forward Brian Shriver for the 2011 season.
