Ah, the obligatory transfer roundup post. Before we begin the beguine though, let's look back
five years and put this window into a bit of perspective.

Canada Team captain Paul Stalteri is heading back to Germany. Stalteri has now left Tottenham of
the Premier League for Borussia Monchengladbach of Germany's Bundesliga to begin the season
starting January 1, 2009. The fullback was with the Werder Bremen of Germany back in 2005 and now
he's back there again.
I was digging around the internet looking for Martin Jol's transfer dealings when Ken V on TIFF
posted the following, which lists them all.
Some of the dealings, then:
2004/05 in: Paul Stalteri (free), Andy Reid (£4m), Michael Dawson (£4m), Michael Carrick
(£2.75m), Pedro Mendes (£2m)
2004/05 out: Simon Davies (£3m), Kasey Keller (£.
The Tottenham revolution under Juande Ramos is well and truly underway, with the Spanish manager
reportedly ready to offload no fewer than 16 players during the summer transfer window.
Expected to be shown the White Hart Lane exit door are Paul Robinson, Pascal Chimbonda, Michael
Dawson, Anthony Gardner, Young Pyo Lee, Steed Malbranque, Teemu Tainio, Kevin Boateng, Younes
Kaboul, Hossam Ghaly, Adel Taarabt, Darren Bent, Paul Stalteri, Ricardo Rocha and Robbie Keane.
Last month the CSA released a list of friendly dates in preparation for the 2014 round of
qualification. Head coach Stephen Hart stated his goal to field a competitive side in 2012 to
improve on Canada's shocking performance in the 2008 semifinal qualification round as Canada
finished with two points behind Mexico, Honduras and Jamaica, including a -7 GD.
Last night, Canada wrapped up its group stage matches at the Gold Cup in Miami, Florida. A 2-2 draw
against Costa Rica gave the Canucks top spot in Group A, after two previous victories over Jamaica
and El Salvador.
Stephen Hart rested a number of our key players last night, including Julian De Guzman, Ali Gerba,
Dejan Jakovic, Paul Stalteri, and Atiba Hutchinson.
Luis Robles, a strong candidate to make the US World Cup Team in 2010 played two
seasons in the PDL
Last week we discussed on this site that two of the key players in the (arguably) USMNT's most
remarkable run Jay DeMerit and Charlie Davies had played in USL as well as College Soccer but had
not played in MLS.
It was a good week for CONCACAF players in European competitions in mid-week, with Mexican
captain Rafael Marquez scoring for Barcelona and Honduran star David Suazo scoring his first goal
for Benfica.
Unfortunately, the goal-scoring touch didn't carry over to the weekend.
Canada's men's national soccer team was eliminated from the CONCACAF Gold Cup last night in a 0-1
defeat to Honduras in the quarter-final stage of the tournament. Honduras' lone goal came from aÂ
Walter Martinez penalty in the 36th minute following what referee Joel Aguilar had deemed a Paul
Stalteri foul on the player.
A Sportnset story today about the injury situation among MNT players ahead of Saturday's
quarter-final Gold Cup draw against Honduras has me feeling a bit on edge.
"Yes we do (have a lot of injuries)," (Stephen) Hart told Sportsnet.ca on Tuesday. "I am going
to have to wait on the medical staff.
The last time Canada went undefeated in Gold Cup group play was 2000. Just saying.
What a strange feeling going into a game knowing you have already secured a spot in the
knockout. It's not something I am used to and I have to say it actually took a bit of an edge off
watching it. Still, any time we get a result against Costa Rica it is good.
Yahoo Sports reports,
Canada edges El Salvador 1-0
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)—Ali Gerba scored for the second straight game and Canada strengthened its
hold on Group A of the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a 1-0 win over El Salvador on Tuesday.
Defender Manuel Salazar headed the ball out of the penalty area, but it fell to the feet of
Canada's Patrice Bernier, who fired toward goal, leaving Gerba to deflect the ball past goalkeeper
Miguel Montes in the 32nd minute.

Nice to emerge from my blogging exile with a headline that hasn't appeared anywhere for pretty
well close to a year. Earlier today Canada beat Cyprus 1-0 in an international friendly thanks to a
goal by the Simeon Jackson who, along with defender Eddy Sidra and midfielders Tyler Hemming and
Dominic Imhof, earned their first caps for Canada today.
Michael Bradley's Borussia Moenchengladbach side is making some shrewd deals this winter to keep
themselves afloat in the Bundesliga during the second half of the season. Canadian vet Paul
Stalteri, who last played in the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen, has been signed from Tottenam
Hotspur. The versatile 31 year-old can play in defense or midfield and his playing style is
uniquely suited to the forceful play of the Bundesliga.
Canadian men's soccer coach Dale Mitchell has named the 19-players he will use for their 2010 World Cup qualifying matches against Saint Vincent & the Grenadines. The Canadians are looking to reach the finals for the first time since 1986.
Here is their roster:

The Canadians play in Kingston this Sunday and then head home to Montreal for the second leg next Friday (20 June).

A report in the Daily Mail has linked Canadian defender Paul Stalteri (currently out of favour at
Spurs with new boss Juande Ramos) to Portsmouth. The deal would see Stalteri go to Pompey on loan
from Tottenham. Whatever happens, two things seem clear to me. One is that Stalteri is on the move.

Normally the points in this fixture are rather an irrelevance, but this time there is more at
stake than just bragging rights. The sides go into the game separated only by goal difference, and
the three points up for grabs could prove crucial come May. Ultimately, league position is the
gauge, and this season for a change we have a realistic chance of finishing above l'Arse.
According to the CONCACAF website, we could be missing five players during the Gold Cup (assuming
Ali Gerba signs). Stephen Hart has named his 30-man preliminary squad ahead of the tournament, and
included are Dwayne De Rosario, Adrian Serioux, Nana Attakora, Kevin Harmse, and Ali Gerba. Here is
the full 30-man squad.
Though he has said he's staying in Europe, Goal.com is reporting that Canadian international Paul
Stalteri may be coming back to this side of the waters. According to this excerpt:
The captain of the Canada national team has fallen out of favour at White Hart Lane since his
return from a loan spell at fellow London Premier League side Fulham, and now looks set to leave
the club.
Where is DeRo is the question that Gerry Dobson is posing in his latest blog post. After the
initial announcement there has been no major press splash showing off TFC's newest acquisition in
full TFC colours and some seem to be getting antsy. Personally, I think this is a bit of a tempest
in the teapot.
