I'm not going to insult your intelligence by explaining what a big game this Cameroon vs Egypt
Africa(n) Cup of Nations quarterfinal is. Replay of the 2008 final (which holders Egypt won 1-0),
Samuel Eto'o, etcetera, etcetera. Instead let's focus on the form of two teams who will be planning
on winning not just this game, but the whole thing.

The Pharaohs of Egypt made it through to the Quarter finals of the Africa Cup of Nations after
beating Mozambique 2-0 yesterday night in Benguela. The mambas of Mozambique frustrated Egypt
throughout the first 45 minutes to ensure that they went into the break without conceding. In my
opinion, Mozambique looked the more dangerous of the two sides.

Cameroon were last night given a brutal shock in their Group D encounter against Gabon when
they were beaten 1-0 in Lubango. This rounds off the poor performances shown from their fellow
giants Ivory Coast and Nigeria. The Indomitable Lions dominated from start. However, it was not to
be their day as a solitary goal from Daniel Cousin in the 17th minute gave Gabon the important
victory that sent them to the top of Group D.

I didn't say it unfortunately, those where the words of Patrick MBoma yesterday on RMC'c After
Foot show. Patrick Mboma should know, he was one of Cameroon's stars at the end of 1990s and
beginning of 2000, participating in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, winning the Africa Cup of Nations
in 2000 and 2002 as well as getting the gold medal in the 2000 Olympics.

The Cup of Nations all-time top scorer - but can Eto'o add more silverware to the collection in
Angola?
With the African Cup of Nations 2010 now but a few days away we turn our attentions to the final
group preview, Group D:
Group D

Cameroon
Alongside Cote d'Ivoire Cameroon probably have the most talented squad in Africa, yet until Paul Le
Guen took over as coach in July 2009 the Indomitable Lions were in real jeopardy of missing out on
World Cup 2010 altogether.

Maybe Rod Tidwell coined that phrase in Jerry Maguire, but you can bet that Fabio Capello finds
himself blurting that out every now and again.
The globalization of markets has enabled soccer to grow regardless of current economic
conditions. One only need look at expanding player salaries and astronomical investments clubs are
making.

I get money
The game of football is a great leveller. For centuries the sport has brought together people from
all ends of the spectrum. Kings play with paupers, friends with enemies, giants with minnows. In
19th century Britain, for example, football was one of the only mediums through which the
well-oiled upper classes would even agree to associate with the working man.

The four play-off games in the European qualification zone were all tight affairs with all left to
play for in the second legs. France edged Ireland 1-0 at Croke Park in Dublin with a second half
Nicolas Anelka goal.

It's the World Cup 2010 qualification finale in Africa this weekend, with three spots at the big
show still up for grabs. South Africa are qualified as hosts. Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire join them
having already won Groups D and E respectively.
That leaves three groups undecided with just one round of games to go, and those games are this
weekend.

I almost missed it myself but today I posted my 200th article. How's about that then, boys and
girls? In the same week as my 1000th tweet.Obviously I've taken my time about it. But still, you've
got to say it's an achievement of sorts.Looking back my first posts dealt with turmoil at
Tynecastle and the Hibs' board being somewhat parsimonious.

This may not be a familiar sight anymore
As Juninho rose, Lyon did too. The Brazilian is now at the twilight of his career and the sun
may also be setting on Lyon's era of dominance. Their loss to Valenciennes gives Marseille its best
chance at a title since 1992.
Lyon is a remarkable record in the annals of French football.
