No player named Lucas will be on the pitch for Liverpool by the end of January. Though by this
time next year there could be two Lucases (Luci? Lucai?) regularly in the starting eleven. And
maybe even one Luis Suarez, assuming the English FA doesn't manage to drive him and Liverpool
Football Club into the Irish Sea like some unwanted nation state by then.
Some of you are Anglophiles, ex-pats or live in the United Kingdom, so I hope you'll allow me this
indulgence to write about a topic that has nothing to do with the English Premier League but has

Earlier this month, the United States Men's National Team lost a friendly against Belgium, in
Belgium. Here's a video feature from Belgium television focusing on the US ex pats who got to enjoy
watching their national team play in Belgium.

Mario Gomez has been pulled from the friendly with Italy due to a strained knee ligament
suffered in Bayern's game against Köln this weekend. (He scored, but Bayern lost. Let's not talk
about it.) No replacement will be named, so this means that we have a 21-person squad... with only
one real striker.
Liverpool face Fulham in the second of the two rearranged fixtures.
We can probably all agree that this is a slightly better time for Liverpool to be
facing...anyone, yes?
You Hodgsonphiles will likely miss the romance inherent when a former manager faces his old club
the admiring gazes exchanged prior to the opening whistle, the friendly pats on the back when they
encounter one another, the loving cheers from the former supporters, and the rapture everyone
experiences when they're watching two teams compete to see whose centerbacks can kick the ball
furthest.
... about the Pats any more (as DaddyCornblog would say). Sadly, the Pats and Eagles are gone
... so now we're hoping for a Steelers-Packers Superbowl. (That's what the consensus is in these
parts ... and HollyCornblog agrees, so you know it's gonna happen.)
Quite the shocker in Foxboro yesterday, eh?
