After spending two weeks of training camp at their facilities at Tignes, OL get ready to kick
their pre-season off today against Swiss outfit Servette Genève, hopefully getting tuned-up for a
regular season that will be better than the last.
As everyone's probably already heard, Fabio Grosso went down in the 18th min of
Italy's 2-1 win over Cyprus. Fabio left the game with an injury to his flank. The diagnosis is two
fractured ribs. It's believed he will be out of the Lyon line-up for at least one month. That
amounts to Grosso missing at least (6) matches.
Although we've all been waiting for the eventual signing of The Rock,John
Mensah -which should happen today, Monday- there are other smaller happenings in the
Mercato. I apologize for the shortness of the piece, but transfer news is scant lately. I thought
I'd throw in some tiny morcels of info to keep the stomach growling to a minimum for those of us
who are genuine transfer news junkies, and for those of us who don't read French.
Lyon had their first summer friendly this afternoon against Nimes in Albertville. Goals were
scored by Juninho (10), Yannis Tafer (40), and Anthony
Mounier (63). This was Claude Puel's first match in charge, and for many of the players,
their first match in an OL jersey.
I've totally been avoiding writing about this because part of me still believes that it's only a
nightmare...But man, out of the eleven OL players in Euro 2008, only one will be showing his face
in the quarterfinals.
I have nine other identical pictures just like
this.
Word on the street is that Sevilla are very interested in Sebastien Squillaci - so interested that they have already made a €5m offer to Lyon and have come to an agreement with the player. Lyon have agreed to the transfer in principle but want more money from Sevilla.
Seems like his hard work has paid off. Patrick Muller has been included among
the provisional 26 Swiss call ups for Euro 2008!
With the tournament being held in his native Switzerland, this call up is very important to
Muller, who had originally feared that he would miss the Euro 2008 entirely back when he injured
his knee ligament last fall.
Ecco alcuni trasferimenti effettuati dai club francesi all'ultimo giorno di mercato.
Dopo il sudcoreano Park Chu Young e lo svizzero
Patrick Muller, il Monaco ha ingaggiato il centrocampista nigeriano Sani
Kaita, 22 anni, che ha firmato un contratto triennale dopo essersi svincolato
dagli olandese dello Sparta Rotterdam.

Last week saw OL get-off to a good start in the final stretch of the season with a strong
showing vs. Le Mans. Lyon did alot of good things: scored three- I wanted to see maybe two more to
narrow Marseilles' point differential lead, Benzema broke-out of his miny-slump
with a brace and Jean the Monster Makoun had two assits.
