Hearty congrats go out to Shamrock Rovers, who became the first Irish side ever in the history
of ever to reach the group stages of any European tournament by beating Partizan Belgrade 2-1 AET
in Serbia last night thus booking themselves a place in the Europa League group stage.
Rovers rock on Irish minnows Shamrock Rovers have qualified for the group stages of the Europa
League after an incredible extra time win over Partizan Belgrade. The result means the Dublin-based
side are officially better than all of Scottish football combined. Partizan, playing at home, took
the lead before Rovers' Patrick Sullivan equalised with a [.
As the results began filtering through from the different corners of Europe as Europa League
matches concluded, a feeling that this tournament means something, despite its marginalisation as
UEFA's second class competition, was also transmitted. This should be qualified, however, by
mentioning its level of importance appears to differ accordingly, as by the end of the night some
rather illustrious clubs with rather weighty histories were bitterly reminded that these games are
won or lost on the park and not on the length of a CV.
Group F: Arsenal – Marseille – Olympiacos – Borussia Dortmund.
That doesn't look like a group of death to me but there is enough in there keep things on edge.
Perhaps part of the reason is also that Arsenal will have to go on a long, consistent run before
most fans regain complete confidence.
Airtricity League champion's Shamrock Rovers have re-wrote history after
beating Partizan Belgrade 2-1 in Belgrade tonight after extra-time.
Having drawn the 1st leg in Tallaght 1-1 last week, it looked like Rovers were down and out when
Partizan took the lead in the 35th minute, however Pat Sullivan struck a 30 yard volley on
the hour mark to draw Rovers level on aggregate before sending the keeper the wrong way
for Rovers 112th minute winning penalty to give the Irish side their biggest European win in Irish
soccer history.
We have it on good word that at least one English club has lodged a bid for Kevin De Bruyne. Who
made the bid, however, is up for interpretation.
Chelsea? Say word.
Chelsea have been linked with the 20-year-old Racing Genk midfielder since, well, the summer
close season began.
Montenegro defender Stefan Savic has signed for Manchester City on a four-year deal from
Partizan Belgrade, the Premier League club have confirmed.
Manchester City have signed defender Stefan Savic (20) for a reported £10m,
Savic was a key member of Partizan Belgrade's title winning side last term and also helped
Montenegro to a 0-0 draw with England in their Euro 2012 qualifiers.
The team's on its way. Danny Murphy's staying behind, we hear, which is sensible. While a 3-0
lead isn't unassailable, you'd assume that any selection of Fulham professionals ought to be able
to go away and not lose by three goals.
These things are never certain though. In 1984 our friends QPR beat Partizan Belgrade 6-2:
(check out the lack of crowd, by the way).
Liverpool is trying to hijack Manchester City's move for Montenegro star Stefan Savic,
skysports.com understands.
However, the Reds' late efforts look set to be in vain as the 20-year-old is believed to be fully
focused on completing a move to Eastlands.
Savic arrived in England on Monday evening ahead of a planned medical with City, whilst talks over
a potential £6million deal continued.
The New England Revolution announced via press release yesterday that they had declined options
on Serbian duo Marko Perovic and Ilija Stolica. Stolica had spent the last few months on loan at
USL-Pro club FC New York while Perovic underwent season-ending knee surgery after injuring himself
against Sporting KC in April.
The draws for the first two qualifying rounds of the two main European club competitions were
made in Nyon, Switzerland this afternoon just 23 days after FC Barcelona claimed their fourth UEFA
Champions League crown at Wembley Stadium.
The UEFA Champions League begins on June 28th with two-legged ties involving the bottom four
ranked national champions from UEFA'S Co-Efficient table which measures the progress of each
country's clubs in European competition over a five year period.
Part-a-man Belgrade Partizan Belgrade went to extreme lengths to show onlookers that their new kit
is a two-piece and not an all-in-one. Unfortunately, they could have killed someone in the process.
The launch of their new kit descended into farce when the mannequin they had employed to launch the
kit (most clubs opt for their [.
Partizan's loan away supporter managed to start a riot
The boys are back in town! Well ok, not this town, a town on Turkey's south coast... but hey -
they're back! The new look, oranje-tinted Toronto FC 2.0 took to the field for their first match
today, a 1st Round match-up against Partizan Belgrade in the CONCAUEFA Cup.

After having his name tossed around the rumor mill in the last couple of months, Juan Carlos

The former Chicago Fire, New York Red Bulls and Once Caldas coach has been selected to become
the next manager of Los Catrachos.

Neuer. On Monday, however, Stojko had a new subject.
