This took me far too long, sorry. Interwebs troubles...#1 - As you may well know the race for free
agent USMNT backline cop Oguchi Onyewu has reached a fever pace. We had no less than a half dozen
names added to his suitor list today, including (heart beating) Ajax. The same article also outs
Parma and Portsmouth, while various Italian reports fingered Genoa, Lazio and Livorno - all of whom

According to Soccer365 there are even more teams after Onyewu now and few more going for Charlie
Davies.
Voetbal International reports that Ajax have come in for free agent U.S. defender
Oguchi Onyewu, also adding Parma and Portsmouth to his list of suitors, while Gazzetta dello Sport
has Genoa and old suitor Livorno prowling around. Click to continue reading...

Last week I posted the first edition of Transfer Tuesdays, where every week we round up what
every Serie A club is doing on the transfer market. Today is the last day of June, which means
tomorrow the transfer window is officially open and you'll see all the transfers made in the past
few weeks become "official".

This is the new Nike ball that you will see being kicked around next season. It's called the
Nike Total 90 Ascente and will also be used in the EPL and in Spain's La Liga. The ball will be
used in all Serie A, Serie B, and Coppa Italia matches as well as the SuperCoppa this August and in
all Primavera matches.

It's been nearly a month since the end of the 2008/2009 Serie A season. I would've put this post
up earlier, but the Confederations Cup and the U-21 Championship distracted me from Serie A talk.
So I thought we'd discuss who was the best foreign player and who was the best Italian player this
season.

Will Rossi be back in Manchester?
One positive to come out of Italy's disastrous Confederations Cup adventure was the emergence of
Giuseppe Rossi. Having been on the fringes of the Azzurri squad for some months, he finally made
his breakthrough against the nation of his birth, putting himself firmly in the shop window this
summer.

The Red Devils have targeted the Kenyan midfielder McDonald Mariga and are prepared to include
‘Chicco' in the deal. Talented Kenya midfielder McDonald Mariga could leave Parma for English
champions Manchester United this summer, with teen striker Federico Macheda moving in the opposite
direction, according to Sportmediaset.

I thought now that the season is over and we've moved into the craziness of the off season where
transfer rumors are posted by the minute on every calcio website possible, I would start a new
weekly post called "Transfer Tuesdays" where we can sift through all these rumors and see what all
20 Serie A teams are up to during this summer's calciomercato.

Livorno ended their one year stay in Serie B on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Brescia in the
promotion play-off final second leg (first leg was 2-2). The Amaranto got two goals from their two
star players Francesco Tavano and Alessandro Diamanti before Martin Bergvold added a third. The
promotion is a great joy for Livorno, who were expected to be a force in Serie B this season and
grab an automatic promotion place.

The 2010-2011 season will be a little different for Serie A. The collective bargaining tv rights
will go into effect which should mean more money for the little teams as the tv rights are shared
throughout the whole league similar to the EPL model. But this also means they have decided to
follow the EPL model in regards to schedule as well.

Guiseppe Rossi
In the eyes and opinions of many of you, I am about to defend the indefensible: the decision of
Guiseppe Rossi to play for the Italian National Team instead of the United States National Team.
This issue came to head this week, with many calling Rossi a Judas or Benedict Arnold, because on
Monday Rossi scored two of Italy's 3 goals against the US at the Confederations Cup in South
Africa.

It's the next day and the hangover still lingers. Ives did an interesting piece on hating
Rossi a pretty even-handed analysis of the situation.
My take? I, like many American soccer fans, was bitterly disappointed (although not shocked)
when Rossi announced that he'd be playing for Italy.

Going into the Promotion semi-final second leg, all 4 teams had a chance to advance.
Empoli and Brescia played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg and had
all to play for in the second. Grosseto upset Livorno 2-0 away,
and they liked their chances of finishing the job at home but you couldn't count out a Livorno team
with so many experienced players.

Torino became the third and final team to be relegated from Serie A on Sunday when it lost 3-2 at

Torino needed to win and hope relegation rivals Bologna dropped points to avoid joining Reggina and
Lecce in Serie B next season.

Momenti di paura oggi a Parma. Al 22' della ripresa la gara tra gli emiliani e il Vicenza è stata

The weekend began with the best of intentions as Paolo Maldini headed for his San Siro swansong.
But when teams are relegated - or pushed to the very brink of relegation - things tend to go
downhill very quickly. Take, for example, Genoa and Torino, who embarked on a full out brawl
following the former's 3-2 [.

Should he be appointed Chelsea manager, will Ancelloti continue his trophy throwing antics at
Stamford Bridge?
Â
I think we are all about 90% sure now that Carlo Ancelotti is to take the reigns at Stamford
Bridge. Rossoneri vice-president Adriano Galliani confirmed last week that the club will make a
statement on Ancelotti's future this coming monday, after achieving Champions League
qualification.

It's fair to say we've been banging on quite a bit recently about title chases, promotion and
relegation but if you can't do it now, when can you do it?
One thing we find quite interesting is to see how well teams relegated from the top-flight last
year are doing one year on - that is to say 'will they gain promotion back to where they were at
the first attempt?

Adriano Leite Ribeiro, known to his friends (ok, to basically everyone) as simply Adriano, has
decided to take a break from football. The Brazilian powerhouse, who netted 29 goals in 47 games
for his national side, has "lost the joy of playing" football. He has "lost the
happiness" that is so widely associated with beautiful game.

So one of the major stories after the international break was that Adriano never returned to
Italy. Inter were expecting him to be in Milan the Tuesday after the international break, and he
never showed up. Early reports were he had simply missed his flight after a party, but as the days
passed and he still failed to show up reports were something was wrong.

Crikey, as we say in England. The reasons why Robinho was willing to relocate to Manchester
suddenly become clear:
The 24-year-old has agreed a four-year contract that makes him the highest-paid
footballer in the history of the game, with a weekly salary of £160,000.
For those of you not used to the quaint habit that British newspapers have of expressing
multi-million pound salaries in a working-class "weekly wage" fashion, let's put it this
way: that amounts to about $15 million a year.
